Read somewhere (the globe??) that the Town of Highgate is opposing the
show(s) this summer. Something about the high school graduation being
the same week. Hope they can work things out. I was looking forward
    to it...

Most of the town (ie; businesses) is FOR the shows, so are most of the
Kids...however the school board finds this to be a MAJOR disruption at
the end of the school year and they want to flex their muscles (plus
they probably HATE the fact that the kids really wanna see the Dead
rather than graduate...*;'). It's small town politics at it's best.

There are petitions floating around to change the graduation date...this
is what i gleaned from the Burlington Newpaper...it's still open for
discussion and discussing they are doing.

Does anyone remember how much it was per campsite last year? When you
are making reservations, do you have to give them any $$ upfront?
446.15$12AKOCOA::DMITCHELLWillow sky,whoa,I walk and wonder whyThu Apr 06 1995 18:1811

tent sites are 12 per nite up to 4 people...no money upfront,,they'll
send you a bill w/ x amount of days to pay...

sounds like things may be a little tighter this year at the campground.

they'll be sending tickets w/ your confirmation for your limit of people
at your site that you turn in for wristbands upon arrival...

Yeah they're trying to keep a little better track of what's
happening up there this year. Apparently sites are going fast so call
them as soon as you can. Almost all the leantos are gone!
The guy on the phone said they were doing wristbands because when
they tried to give each car a tag people could simply drive back and
forth with different people and "sneak" 'em in for free - this way
every person is accounted for not every car.
We booked for 6/14 & 6/15 - figger we'll wanna get up there the day
before to avoid the traffic jam! The guy taking res. is really cool -
1st thing he said when I told him the dates I wanted to reserve for was
"Lemme guess - you're coming up to see the Dead" so they know we're on
our way for the 2nd annual Carmi bash!!

Hi,

I got a Real Important Question. Suppose I call now and reserve my spot
at Lake Carmi CG. Then, in June, I decide not to go to the show since my
S.O. can't take the time off (stoopid, right???). Can I transfer the
reservation to someone else?

thx, Josh

    Josh -
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to change the name on the
reservation. Ask them when you call - the guy answering the phone is
really cool - I'm sure he'll let you know.

    Real Easy Answer
Tell your SO to hit the high road, go to the show and then crawl back
on your hands and knees begging for their forgiveness and ask them to
    take you back.

actually from what the reservation ranger said, whomever has the
wristbands on their wrists can come and go as they please regardless
of whether the campsite is in their name or not...whoever's name it is
in tho will get a bill 2 weeks after the res is made

is there any way we could coordinate this a little better this year? last
year we were scattered all over the place, and it's a pretty big distance
(although it was a fun swim in the morning) between areas "A" and "B". could
we at least agree on an area, and all book our campsites there? even better
would be if someone could reserve a huge chunk of campsites, so that we could
all be in a block, but i'm not sure if the logistics could work out for that.

ok, so maybe it's unrealistic at this point for us to be able to get a whole
bunch of sites right next to each other. but how about people post campsite
numbers (and areas), in this note, as they make reservations, so we can at
least try.

speakin' from lotsa experience, going into Canada has never been a
problem for me (although when they ask where I'm staying, and I give
them my cousins address they seem impressed enough to let me go) the
    problem is coming back in
446.40LUDWIG::IRZAEarth people suckMon Apr 10 1995 19:0620

we had problems going into canada....we left buffalo to check out
niagra falls from the US side, but missed the exit and we had to cross
the border into canada. as we passed the checkpoint my friend panicked
and blurted out "i don't have my license with me, is that going to be
a problem" (my jaw dropped in disbelief at his stupidity). the booth
attendent told us to pull up to the building ahead. once there a patrol
officer approached us, spotted some paraphenelia on the dash...had us
exit the vehicle, lock all the doors, and hand over the keys...the dog
was brought into the van, went spastic, and my friend turned in a
spliff from the driver's side pouch. we then had to sit outside against
the building for what seemed like an eternity, actually about two hours
while my friend was "processed". turns out he had to pay about a $200.
fine (thank god they took visa) and they kicked us out. but while i was
sitiing outside the building i saw countless random searches, most of
them rather thourough. it was kinda funny watching them pull out CO2
catridges, asking what the hell they were, and listening to the heads
say things like we like our soda freshly carbonated.

i got 2 lean-to sites, Mulberry and Sumac, in area B.
i believe jeff ceparski said he had Chestnut and Walnut,
also in area B.

some more info:

you can be flexible on the number of people up until the
time that you pay. once you pay, they send you the
specified number of tickets, and there's no room to add
any more.

they're letting in a max of 2000 people into the campground
(i think that's the number he said). after the sites are
full, they'll put people in overflow, until they hit the
max.

the guy on the phone was extremely nice.

i think it may not be possible for me to set up anything on ROCK to be
world readable.

i mailed the files to jeff maggard, and we'll see if people can access them
from his area.

When I got up this morning I tried to call Carmi but I constantly got a busy
signal. The busy signal came pretty quick after I dialed the last digit,
leading me to believe that the Boston->VT path might be seriously bogged down.

As soon as I got into work, I dialed Carmi and I got through on the first try!
I bet Littleton->VT takes a different path (or maybe it was just luck!)

Anyway, I got sites 70 and 71. They're nestled in a corner of section A. They
are just a few steps from the 1-30 area, so I'm happy. I forgot to ask him how
filled up they were, but they're definitely out of sites 1-30. They actually
had a lean-to available, but it's only suitable for 1 tent under the roof and
one on the outside, so it's not for me.

Everyone, append your site numbers to this list!

i wouldn't worry. last year "local outlets" meant all of new england, i think.

yeahbut, that was last year when highgate was an unknown entity. it is now

I'd say Carmi or Albany is an ideal opportunity for a
	DEChead/Not-at-Dechead reunion.

attached is a note from Scott Wentzell....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for the FAX of critical information - it was grate to see that good
ole grateful notes header! Please say hi to all my old friends in grateful
(better yet, post this message). Don't know if I'll make Highgate or not at
this point, I certainly hope I can work it out. If not, maybe Albany or at
least Boston in the fall.

I was glad you and JC came up for Reggae, it was a weekend to remember. How
about a DEChead camping trip up this way this summer. Forget the overcrowed
Whites, Maine is where its at!!! 8^)

Thanks again for the info - I miss grateful!

I'll toss this in here since there's no other "summer 95" note...

Does anyone else besides me think that Albany is a BAD idea from a logistics
point of view?

I think it will be the last time the Dead play there. I mean they
have enough problems w/ a small(ish) crowd in the Fall or spring. Get
a full fledged summer tour stop there with a 2 day stop at Giants just
before and there is a huge potential for people to just mill around and
party too long in one place...

Maybe it won't happen - I was just wondering what other folks think about
it....

I dunno if that's what'd happen but I just thought I'd ask...

regarding Albany stop this summer - same type of thing happened in
'92. The boys popped in for 2 nights (6/11 & 6/12) in between Rich and
Giants maybe and things went pretty smoothly. Hopefully with big venues
like Highgate, giants and RFK things in Albany will stay cool.

Or you could do like I did last year and park on the main drag (the locals were
charging 15-20 bucks to park in open fields overnight) and just crash in
your car. Of course it helped that I had the station wagon and could fold the
seats down. This might not be a viable option for you, but it worked ok for
me last year. Though I had kind of intended to hit Lake Carmi...

> my buddy tall bill just reserved 2 sites at Carmi for the show and

i think last year they had talked about the 2 car/site limit as well, hoping
to move the rest of the cars to overflow. don't think they ever did anything
to enforce it.

2 tents/site is a somewhat ridiculous, arbitrary, unrealistic number if you're
accepting reservations for up to 8 people per site. i don't know of too many
people with 4 person tents.

I talked with the guy from Lake Carmi this morning. Apparently, they
have a 2,000 person limit for the campground. When you send your money
in (right now), they are giving you first dibs on having more than 4 people
    /site.

I guess that on the day we go to Lake Carmi (June 14th) they are going
to allow people into the overflow lots. Once 2,000 is reached (between
reservations and overflow) , no more unreserved people will be allowed into
the campground, even if you only reserved 4 people on your site and bring a
fifth because your cousin Rasta just flew in from southern California.
Your cousin Rasta must be let out of the car at the front gates and
will not be allowed into the campground.

Basically, he discouraged waiting until June 14th to bring any unreserved
    people.

Subj: Highgate ticket lottery

According to today's Boston Globe:
Tickets to the 6/15 concert in Highgate, VT will go on sale Saturday
by lottery. Would-be buyers for the 65,000 tickets must first get
a numbered wristband from a ticket outlet at *10 AM Friday*. The
wristband guarentees a chance in the Saturday drawing to determine
who will be first in line at each outlet when tickets go on sale.

Here's what the radio ad said:

tix are $31 + $2 "parking fee" + a service charge anywhere from $3-$7
(depending on where you get tix). In the VT area, tix are on sale at a
wide variety of local ticket outlets (they listed about 6 or 7).

No mention of wristbands. I believe the Globe said wristbands are being

I agree! I have a real hard time buying any tickets thru TB!

I wish the dead would do like Pearl Jam and refuse to distribute tix

In today's Boston Globe:
The Vermont Associated Press was a little overzealous in its

locations for the GD concert in Highgate, VT on 6/15. *Not so*,

The org (forget the name) that will be handing the Pearl Jam ticket sales
has plans to eventually do sales over the net, fwiw

Even at $4/ticket x 65k tickets it's $260,000. I have nothing against a
vendor making a reasonable profit (I suppose they'd are they have to give
kickbacks to the likes of Don Law, etc. that erodes some of the $260k) but
this is shameless. No wonder Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, bought
this operation, it's a gold mine

there's help on the way. the WSJ yesturday had a letter written in by
the prez. of another ticket selling firm. the guy did a nice job basically
saying that ticketSHAFTER is SHAFTING everyone. now, all they have to
do is court others to vend thru them vs. T.S. probably the same firm that

thing is the new ticket firm is saving people only 45 cents a ticket
and with ticketbastards "we are everywhere" big brother monopolistic
approach to the ticket industry....saving 45cents a ticket for your
fans may not be cost effective in the long run... dealing with the BS
that arises in everyday business from some mom+pop fledgling ticket

I see them being *forced* to return to TM because of the headaches

somehow i have a feeling that highgate doesn't have a very extensive public
transportation network - it's a VERY small, rural town.

you could probably get to burlington (although i'm not even sure if trains
run all the way up there - you might have to take a bus), and then maybe (or
maybe not) a bus to highgate. if i were looking for transport, i think i'd
first try to scope around the net and find someone else to give you a ride.
it would probably be faster, cheaper, and more fun.

Amtrack runs through Vermont on its Montrealer route, or at least it did before
the budget cuts. I don't know if it stops in Burlington. Vermont Transit has
extensive bus service in Vt. I'm sure there's a flag stop in Swanton, and
possibly one in Enosburg Falls.

I'm departing from Highgate relatively early on Friday, June 16 so I can
beat it down the line back to Lowell, and hence to Boston, for Dylan's 7:30
show at that Harborlights Pavillion.

I simply don't remember how a long a drive it is from Lowell to Highgate!
I need to be back in Lowell at/by 4:15/4:30 PM to unpack my car, then goto my
S.O.'s place for a quick dinner before heading into Boston.
I've never been to Harborlights, so I don't know the traffic patterns there.
I know I'll be dealing with the Central Artery southbound at rush
hour :-(

Anyone know how long it takes to drive from Highgate to Lowell?

thanks, Josh

No help on Highgate to Lowell, but to get to Harborlights I'm pretty sure
that you have to go thru Boston, thru the So Station Tunnel, and down the
SE Expressway during rush hour. You'll make the show but it could be a long
ride (there are lots of shortcuts through South Boston though if you know em).

If I were you I'd try to get through Boston much earlier and plan on eating
somewhere near the Harborlights. The main objective would be getting thru
the No/So Station area at a time other than rush hour (about 3:00 pm onwards).

re -.1

tapes? Got plenty of those.. :-)
4 or 5 hours is cool. That means if I leave Highgate around 10 or 11 AM
I'd be in Lowell by around 3 or 4. I expect a late night in Highgate after
the show... :-)

Ken, no way I can leave Lowell or North Andover (where my S.O lives) any
earlier than 5 PM. She works in Concord, N.H. and it takes her an hour to
get home. She's going to Dylan with me.

I thought Harborlights was on the Pier that has Jimmy's/Jimbo's restaurants -
the pier that has that 3 lane rusty steel bridge to it. thats north of the
South Station tunnel, I believe. I know you don't have to go south past
Chinatown to get off the exit for that pier.
As I said, I haven't been down to that area in a while, so I don't know of
any quick/decent eating places that would be in walking distance of whereever
I'll end up parking. I think there's a parking lot right near the
Harborlights but I'm not sure. I'll try to call Harborlights.
Maybe I'll just have to pack sandwiches and eat 'em in while stuck inside of
the S.E. Expressway with the traffic blues again.

Josh, I'd give it 5 hours, but it really should be less than that...but
you should account for traffic and roadwork, there always seems to be
some between Lebanon - Concord on 89...

the time it takes to get to highgate depends on a couple of
	variables, like rate and route.

if you travel, for instance, at 3/5's of a mile in 10 seconds,
and travel in a straight line, you could make it there in about
	an hour.

Josh, if Harborlights is near Jimmy's Harborside Rest (and therefore also
the World Trade Center, Pier 4, No Name Rest), then you're right, it's
north of So Station/Chinatown, which is a plus as far as traffic goes.
I think you'd take Atlantic Ave to get there.

some point we saw Adam walking, he suggested we park at a school we had
just driven by..walked from there, which was apparently 4.5 miles or
so, and I enjoyed the walk to, seeing the sites, and everyone gettin'
primed up for the show...walkin' back after the show wasn't bad either,
and it seemed to go faster than we thought it would, walking in the
    dark and all....

I definitely wouldn't wanna park too close and get caught in a major
traffic mess...I'd rather walk a bit...

we found a way around to the north andjoined the big line-o-cars
somewhere in the middle... the guys yard we parked in was the last $10
lot... a longer drive distance-wise but less hassle and only a couple
of miles of crawling traffic... can't remember routes though...
maybe once i look at the map again...

oh, does anyone have the carmi direx? are they still here someplace?

Does anyone know what time the gate closes. Is it possible to

According to the info sheet given out at ticketmaster the day the tix went
on sale, they are opening the north entrance to the airport. You could see
this road on a street map of the area, but last year, driving down the road
at night, I couldn't even tell where this entrance was. Hopefully it
really will be open, and accessible. I'm probably going to try for that.

last year we got there after midnight and the gate was closed... all
we needed to do though, was to walk in to the ranger shack and they
came back up with us and let us in... so yes, you should be able to
get in even though the gate will likely be locked...

We were thinking about bringing our mtn bikes and biking to the show.
The thing is, we have to be verry alert to ride them back after
the show (avoid getting hit by a car, etc.) :-0

Last year, did they allow anyone to bring their bikes _into_ the show
with them? Not to ride around, but to avoid chaining them up outside.

The more I think of it, maybe riding bikes to the show is a bad idea...
sounds like more of a hassle once we get there.

there was a *HUGE* pile of mtn bikes at the show last year
looks like someone got the bright idea of chaining their bike to a pole
and someone chained it to that one and so on and so on
soon there was a mass of tires, krypto locks and metal laying there
musta sucked for the shlep who first chained it there...

i don't think that would be that much of a problem. the traffic is bound to
be moving slow enough that you'll probably be passing cars, not the other way
around.

> Last year, did they allow anyone to bring their bikes _into_ the show

it would be great if they had a huge bike rack in the parking lot and
encouraged people to leave their cars and take bikes instead. but that's
prolly wishful thinking.

i'm still considering riding a bike to the show. haven't decided for sure,
though.

I've been thinking the same thing. The big concern is contending with
autos on the way out. I figure it may be faster and safer to walk a
    mile or two.

I think us DECheads should make an attempt to carpool too/from the show.
And that way, once the designated drivers are designatad, that, uh, frees
the minds of those who are not driving...

I suppose we can all talk about it Weds. night around the multiple campfires.

lake carmi state park

to get here from i-89 northbound: take exit 19 (st. albans), turn right on
route 104 north. go 3-4 miles to route 105 and turn right (east). continue
approximately 12 miles and turn left on route 236 north. 3 miles further and
the park is on your left. look carefully at night - the sign isn't lit!

camping facilities: there are 143 tent/trailer sites, 35 leanto sites and 2
cabins that make this the state's largest campground. rest rooms have running
water and hot showers. there is a trailer sanitary station but no hookups; most
sites are large enough to accommodate self-containted RVs. there are swimming
beaches in both camp areas, or campers may use the day beach for no fee.

I would not even consider riding my bike on the main road from Highgate
to Carmi. Once cars get out of the lot, the traffic moves right along.
There's people on mushrooms, LSD, alcohol, marijauna, heroin...glue.
If there was a dirt road or something going to Carmi that would be
    better.

I _still_ have no idea if my campsite is going to be filled to the

So....there is a chance I will have space on it, in case anyone
needs a place to stay/crash. As long as there is space, you are welcome,
as long as you are not anal-retentive or a huge lush-type that

Don't know if this helps but there's a place that's loaded with
pallets and all sorts of pieces of pallets etc in Marlboro off
Bartlett Rd, across from the entrance to Bartlett Pond. Might
actually be in Northboro, but it can't be more than 2 miles from
	MRO.

Nursery's, Lumber yards, and places like Amway usually sell fire wood
	too.

I'll try and pen more on Highgate later. Connor and I had a great time. He
was dancin' up a storm from Dylan's first note on and he got interviewed
(outside) by some woman with a videocam. Had to keep moving back due to the
gate crashers (didn't want the boy to be trampled). Only lowlight of the
trip was when we parked the car I chose the spot because the guy told me it
was only 1.5 miles to the show. As the crow flies that might have been
right but it was actually 3-4 miles, a tiring haul after a show with a
sleepy 48 lb kid on your shoulders. Oh yea, REM was great last night as
well.

Good time.
surprised that so many decheads blew the scene on friday morning. we
styayed most of the w-end... very relaxing on friday and sat, just hanging
'round, rappin' with misc. heads, drinking brew outta my keg, etc...

ok, so, the 64k question is:

Will they be back next year?

i say 40% yes, 60% no.

i think the scene was much worse this year than last.
the dead, if they do play next year, should announce the show
during summer tour to keep crowds down. gate crashers SUCK!!!!!
they ruin it for the rest of us.... the "jerk" factor was much
higher this year than i've ever seen it in 58 or so shows. kinda
like a phish show. perhaps it is the young-aged people factor, i
dunno. deb and i both noticed this immediately last year when we
saw phish at sugarbush -- generally, people having no respext! people
walking all over the place... i got my hand stepped on and the
guy looked at me like i had a problem. no apologies. lots of
people reaming everyone with none of the usual "i'm sorry"... i
guess this is the typical summer tour crowd -- "amateur" dead concert
goers looking for a quick escape/party and they don't care what happens
in their wake for the folks like most of us who see the boyz all year
around.

That is why I don't like going to Phish shows. Lots of rude, pushy kids
with no respect...(but I still like the band ;') Maybe it has changed,
this was a couple of years ago.

There was definitely a rise in the 15-29 age group at highgate, not
a lot of people to show them the way ;')

well, this was last year at sugarbush, so, i don't think there's been
a change.

btw, absolutely no discredit to phish. phish doesn't ask their crowd
to be assholes, they just play the music. similar to the dead - they just
play, they don't ask people to be jerks (in fact, they ask the opposite!).

my take is this. summer tour comes. all the kids that were in school are
now on break. they decide the dead is a good thing, so they go to their
1 or 2 shows, raise hell, then go home and brag about how cool they were
crashing the gate, telling cops to go screw, drinking beer, puking all overe
the place, etc, etc. its their one rahrah for the summer. bottom line, it
is those few who ruin it for the larger deadicated crowd. sad scene and
there's not much you can do about it. they view it as a big party. they
don't understand the deadhead code of conduct, and frankly, they don't
care 'cuz they don't have anything invested in the dead. it is a party,
not a dead show.

interesting point worth mentioning now. a friend of a friend made some
comments about pushing people, not saying excuse me, i'm sorry, etc.
this person (she) said if she's had a bad day, it helps to go bump into
people to relieve tension. in fact, if she gets pushed, she said she'll
usually push back. deb and i thought this to be very undeadhead like, and
it was a topic of discussion when we were alone. this person also goes
to bands that do this "moshing" shit -- i don't know what this is
exactly other then people ramming themselves into other people (please,
someone enlighten me). anyways, she went to the show and probably pushed
and shoved opther people and loved it. perhaps that is status quo in
her "moshing" crowd of friends, i dunno. but, it seems to conflict with
the deadhead code of conduct, sorry to say....

I think it also has a lot to do with east coast vs west coast shows.
The east coast crowds have an edge to them and tend to be too rowdy.

Haven't been to a Dead show since 1991 (though I saw Jerry in Worcester
in 1993), and I really don't miss it when I read about stuff like this.

I've talked to more than one dedicated deadhead who has gotten
frustrated with the scene and found it not worth the hassles involved.
Its a shame that the general behavior of a sub-crowd of people can be
so nasty and have such an impact.

Hogan said, maybe I didn't miss much after all...

hmm, it seems that this hassle was a function of it being an outdoor

being in the Gaaahden one last time will inspire Jerry and the boyz for

Lot's of depressing stories coming from the highgate weekend..
too bad. I hope those going to Albany will find the scene much
    more laidback.

I agree with JC that summer toor is a yahoo for a bunch of young
kids (or no, not even young kids, just people who think that
    a deadshow is a drink-all, drug-all, anything-goes type of
scene). I was pretty much a "Young Kid" when I started seeing
the dead and I NEVER EVER had that type of attitude. I had more of
a "coming home" feeling - not a "trash this place and move on" one.
I know I have seen a lot of that at Giant's as well.

But anyway... I'm going showless this summer and kind of bummed about
it, but quite honestly, of the last few shows I've been to a couple
have been pretty disappointing and I'd rather keep those good
experiences fresh in my mind instead!

Have fun in Albany, all! I think (and hope) the mood is a changing

446.334:-) Good times at Highgate :-)SUBPAC::MAGGARDMail Order WivesTue Jun 20 1995 15:0364
Sorry to hear that so many folks were let down by the Highgate show.

I had a great time. One of *THE* key fun-factors was getting in and out of
the campsite and the show with ZERO traffic by takign back roads. I highly
recommend the light-blue covered "The Vermont Road Atlas and Gazetteer" for
back-roads navigating. This atlas has the entire state broken up into about
sixty 12"x16" maps, each with _all_ of the paved, grated-gravel, unimproved
dirt, and trail roads in the state at a once-inch-to-the-mile scale and VERY
accurate -- every hill, turn, stream, old barn, church, etc. is marked on the
map. This publisher makes these maps for all of New England. Even though the
atlas was dated 1988 (some roads since improved and dwellings unmakred), it
definitely was a handy tool for avoiding the Highgate traffic! With this, we
could totally avoid 87 and all the traffic into Highgate center and the show
and bring the VW Bus around the NORTH and WEST sides of the airport via a
couple gravel roads, a dirt roads, and lots of 2-lane paved roads -- it took
us maybe 50%-75% longer in mileage, but at least 2 hours shorter in time!! We
were quite surprised to run into Dean-O and company in the private dirt lot at
the other end of the runway -- only a ~15-20 min walk to the show! This
pleasant travel experience, and sneaking out of the Wednesday night traffic
jam by 4 wheelin' it across the grassy median of I-89 made for a fun trip from
a driving point of view :-)

Carmi was incredible -- the morning-after swim in the lake was refreshing and
invigorating. And the few folks who were using soap in the water were
politely educated on the do's and don'ts of proper natural water use and we
didn't see any of that again, which was nice. The lean-to's at Carmi were
definitely the way to go. We (Rich, etc.) were at Birch, which is at one end
of section A and faces _away_ from the rest of the campsites. So any noise we
made -- and we did make a little :-) -- got broadcasted into the empty woods
and didn't bother too many folks. And we didn't hear too much either :-)
The crew working at Lake Carmi St. Park was pleasant and helpful... and sorry
to say there wasn't any memorable "bon fire entertainment" this year that I
heard of.

The pre-show activities were fun ... wandering around in amazement at the
plethora of vending and people in the parking lot. If you wanted it and
looked for it, you could find it. The crowd at the show was, well, crowded.
We dropped a tarp just to the right of the soundboard and had to keep from
getting trampled by the teeming hoards trying to push their way to the front.
Maybe I had to perform a little barrier defense of the tarp by saying a
polite-but-firm "don't push" or "please go around" a dozen times to various
folks, but on the whole it was a _relatively_ good scene where we were
sitting.

The show was about as good as I expected. Excellent (!) sound, excellent (!)
visual light show, and mediocre (.) performance. :-) IMO, Jerry played better
at Highgate than the last coupla times I saw him at the Garden. And when Phil
sang BoR and totally blew a note here and there, I thought of Jon Fishman and
smiled :-) During drums when they really cranked up the system and
stereo-ized the sound, several times my eyes bugged a little in surprise at
how friggin loud and how good quality the sound of those drums were!! And the
biblical exodus at the end of the show was also an amazing sight to see, and
partake in. We took a liesurely stroll back up the runway to the cars, picked
up some firewood from the private lot on the way out, and had a nice open road
trip back to Carmi, and built ourselves a nifty little fire back at the Birch
lean-to. Quaffed some brews, munched some munchies, BS'd with friends, and
fell asleep to the morning song of some ornithary friends just before sunrise.

All in all, it was a good time with good friends!

we caught it - it was right at the beginning - they explained about the
location on sacred ground and then did a song. One on the guys wifes
was next to us with a movie projector - dennis had thrown her out from
backstage because of it!! no camcorders allowed.. we got some pictures
being right up front but just from those disposable cameras. Actually
they weren't too bad -- you can see phil on stage in the back when
dylan was on mouthing the words to the songs. also jerry was on the
side with his wife "dancing" the when dylan came of stage he picked
him up in a big bear hug - gave me a warmer feeling than i already
had. dylan in white silk singing into a mic with no guitar in hand...
a first for me!! i'd like a copy of the tape and i vote for the dylan part
    :-)

I'll branch on the highgate tape (plus dylan). Didn't this tree get planted
once? :-)

I'd be interested in the Dylan part. Maybe the dead too, but not that
necessary...

We really need to get the Highgate and Albany trees set up.

Is there a note that addresses this somewhere? I know the tapes
are available and ready. Perhaps a taping party somewhere for one
evening would be grand. Bring your decks, patch cords, and oats.
