407.0. "The Official DEChead TFSO Topic" by ECRU::CLARK (Chairman of the Bored) Mon May 23 1994 18:14

Hey folks;

Welp, most of you know this already but I'm getting TFSO'd ... by my own
decision (as in, they're allowing me to leave now instead of getting axed
w/o a package next quarter), so I'm not totally devastated about it. The thing
I'm bummed about is that I won't be able to shuck the jive with you folks in
this most wonderful notesfile.

I'm a bit spaced and feeling disconnected, so rather than go on and on in this
note, I'll make it short. I was born in 1961, no just kidding, I started
reading this notesfile in '87 and in the last seven years I've made a lot
of good friends here and had some great times. Those great times aren't over
because you'll still be seeing me at Slipknot shows, etc., so quit with the
collective sigh of relief!! ;^)

There's a song that's very special to me, and kinda summarizes how I feel
at this moment ... when you hear this song, think of me, OK?

- DC

You need my love baby oh so bad
You're not the only one I've ever had
And you know if I set you free
Don't you know you'll be in misery.
(You know why?)
They call me
Doctor Love-I've got the cure you're thinking of
Calling Doctor Love

Even though I'm full of sin
In the end you will let me in
Babe I know what your problem is
The first step of the cure is - a kiss

(chorus)

So Baby please get on your knees
There are no bills there are no fees
I think I know what the problem is
The first step of the cure is
A Kiss!

Babe I've got the cure!
'cause I'm the Doctooooorr of Loooooooooove, yeeeeeaaah

I suppose eventually the "Not at DEC" distribution list will be bigger than
the Grateful membership list, at which point someone could turn it into a
mailing list! Or maybe even a newsgroup, like rec.music.gdead.exdeccies ;^)

Actually I got myself an account with MV Communications here in NH, for access
to the Internet etc. after I'm gone, and they have something called
Internet Relay Chat (IRC), real-time discussion like VAX Phone only it's
separated into channels like a CB radio ... each channel has a topic ...
cool stuff.

Bob Hapgood, you still planning on meeting him at Martha's this
Monday (D-Day?) I think I'd be interested, but I've got to check things
out with my wife first. As long as I give her some notice and promise
not to be too late, it should be cool.

JUM, long time no note! I was thinking of you yesterday whilst driving
home and listening to WICN Worcester public radio. Apparently their
Friday morning Latino Beat program was going to have NPR's Maria Hinojosa
interview Texas's Tish Hinojosa. Wow, Hinojosa squared! Due to mentions
you made about Tish, among other things I've heard, I've bought "Culture
Swing" and it is a great album, even if I can't understand 1/4 of the
songs (as they're in Spanish).

Yes, I am going there after work tonight to meet up with him. Just a couple
/few beers. Not late or anything either....

stop on in! I'm really interested to "re-try" the scotch ale that all the
brewmeisters here said was good at the beer fest. The last time I had it
at Martha's it was a brand new recipe and it was too sweet for me. Someone
explained the reason for this is NH beer laws. Strong beers here are sold
in the liquor store (which never carries them :)....

Martha's (though I've never been there) is on Main Street in Nashua, a few
blocks north of Headlines and a number of decent resturants. Not sure of
the best directions, but if'n you're on Rte 3. You can get off at exit
4 (East Dunstable) and head east till it ends, which will be the start of
main street if you hook a left. Probably a mile or two up from there.
I think you can do this from exit 5 too, but then you have to head
down....

Well, just finished with my TFSO meeting. Stick a fork in me...I'm
    done.

Like most of the folks who read and note here, GRATEFUL has been one
of very few bright spots for me at DEC during the past few years.

I'm lucky that I have an excellent new job to go to immmediately, but I
can't find anything to be happy about. Too much despair, too many
people hurting around us. Too many bad decisions, too many managers
left to stay and collect enormous salaries with no work to do. I
shouldn't be surprised, but this place never ceases to amaze me. This
    company still doesn't get it.

I only want to wish you all the very best everything. Good luck, good
health, happiness, peace, babies, the Grateful Dead...I guess the
world is still a good place to be. May all your dreams come true.

Time to add my name to the list. We've known fhere or quite a while
now, but aren't supposed to be "officially" notified until 24 June, and
our last day is 29 June. Missed my 11th anniversery at DEC by about
    a week (5 July, 1983).

Lotsa stuff went down over those 11 years, but instead of looking back,
I think I'll look towards the future. I think I'll be able to end up
working for E-Mu systems. They build synthesizers, Digital audio
equipment, etc. I'd start out working on a sampler, and then on a
keyboard to go with it. Kinda scary, since there's lotsa stuff
to learn, but it also gives me a chance to work on two things I enjoy,
computers and music. There's also the advantage of their offices being
in the Santa Cruz mountains :-) Maybe no big deal for those of you
who got to work in pretty, wooded areas on the East coast, but if
you're familiar with Silicon Valley, it's a nice treat.

Thanks for all the good times here. Even though I was more of a reader
than a writer here, I still enjoyed watching things go on.

I'll still be reachable via email at seagull@well.sf.ca.us

Oh yeah, that explains why I didn't recognize that person. I have that on
video tape, and I asked who it was in this file, and no one answered!

Good luck, John.

Hmmm, I've got this one on tape too, but at the time was at Prime rather
then DEC and was looking for nethead rather than Dechead shirts. Any idea
about where in the show it was? During a song? Crowd wandering between
before sets? It's been a while since I saw this and I can just remember
it having some pretty strange crowd wanderings....

Well Folks, the time has come to weigh those things.

This Friday will be my last day at Digital after 11.5 years..

This comes as no surprise to me w/ the way things are
going in this Company. The last 3-4 yrs for me have been
very tough w/ all the bullsh5t going on in my group.
So, this is more of a relief for me..its on to greener pastures..
I'll will be kinda doing a 360 w/ my life work wise,
"on my hands and my knees" I will be laying tile/carpet floors
for awhile and then I have a few options that I will pursue...
Gonna take a break from the professional life.

But, what I will miss the most is notes and you people..I've
had alot of laffs, even learned a few things..and met some
real cool people..when the cards are down, notes is the
    place to go!!!

As we know "Deadheads" are the best people goin..I've been a Head
    for 20+yrs and I wouldn't give it up for nothing,can't :-)
Jeff C will be my connection to the world of the DEAD!
thanks buddy. and please folks for me,,keep Leblanc on his
    toes..:-)

So, as I head out the door,,thanks for everything..

Maybe I'll meet you on the run.

    see ya in Boston.
