Phil:	No Nose!!! How does he smell???
Bobby:	Blummin awful! ha ha ha!

I crack up every time I hear it - it's so silly!

one of the Walking The Dog shows ... Portchester 1970

the crowd is yelling out song titles between songs to which Bob replies [sic]

"Folks, when we cut the songs on the album we didn't give them
any titles. We hired strangers to do that. So basically all the
titles you are shouting out are just meaningless words to us"

I was just listening to this one from 6/4/78 Univ. of Cal. Santa
    Barbara. Bobby to the crowd:

"You may think it is easy being a Rock & Roll star, but it requires
intense concentration & fine tuning an...an...an...and planning
an...an...an...and we have been making a plan."

    I've entered this one before, somewhere . . .

Before the show, you hear the band going through some kind of doctor
comedy routine. Then Bobby says (as best I can remember):

What happened earlier was that our drummers pulled an
adolescent stunt . . . and we're going to spend the rest
of the evening getting even with them. our short term
memory facilities aren't all they could be, but we can
         hold a grudge.

    Later on he sez:

         Something's on fire back there and I . . . and I don't
         wanna know about it.

302.10OLPs and a DBLCORA::64423::BELKINthe slow one now will later be fastFri Oct 02 1992 18:4443
(I think I've entering this before too, but I like it, so..)

Not a DBL, but a SOJL (Spaced-Out Jerry Line), uttered at the end of
an intense Death Don't Have No Mercy at the Matrix, '68,

"One of my amps just disappeared... th' th' th' one that was over here
somewhere"

Yes sir Mr. Garcia anything you say Mr. Garcia the rubber room is right
this way! :-) x10

and a OPL (Observant Phil Line), 12/2/73 Boston Garden a few songs into the
first set,
"Glad to see you all made it down from the mountains."

and a little later another OPL,
"Most of the songs with two drummers we don't do anymore, and most of the
Pigpen songs we don't do anymore either."

And finally, a DBL (still 12/2/73)
Donna Jean isn't with us tonight. She's at home gettin' big and round".
[crowd cheers wildly].

Are they cheering cause
	1) "ohmygod They _spoke_words_ onstage!"
	2) Crowd likes Donna.
	3) Crowd looking forward to a "Playin'" without Donna.
;-)
Seriously, 12/2/73 is a very interesting show because of the vocal rearrainging
going on. Phil, I think, tried to fill (heh!) in on Donna's parts in
"Row Jimmy Row" and a few other tunes (NOT on Playin' though). In fact
the 12/2/73 Playin' doesn't come back around to the reprise, more I think
because they got 'sidetracked' into the "Heaven Help" jam and then into
"He's Gone", than because they didn't have Donna that night to belt out
the YEAAAAEEEAAAEEEAAAAEEEAAAAAA reprise.
Does anyone know during what shows around 12/73 Donna was not playing in the
band? And on those nights, if they did Playin', the Dead did _not_ do the
reprise?

This should all go into the "what are you listening to now" note, sorry..

a whole dumb bobby paragraph heard on the way in this morning
(Fox Theatre; Atlanta, 5-19-77) and I quote....

Before we get started maybe we should all take part in
an exercise. A simple exercise. I want every one of
out there to stand up real slow, put your hands in the
air, and turn around real slow. Don't try anything funny
cause I got you covered. Thank you.

Hmmn, so was there a purpose to this exercise or did Bobby just want
to check out someone's butt in the front row? :-)

Darn Lisa, I'd copied that one out of dead-flames a while back and
never remembered to put it in here. Too bad they don't as much as
    they used to.

    that reminds me..

At the free concert at Central Park a few weeks ago, I met the baby who
was born at the Oxford, ME show. (remember that?) Turns out it was a
friend of my friend Elinor who was giving birth. Elinor didn't even
know it was her until later.

since some of us have been listening to lots of different Dead
tapes trying to contribute to the BoJ(tm)...maybe we can revive
this particular note - I -love- DBLs!

	I actually don't have one ;-)

what I -do- have is a SmartBL...so, anyways:

this is the Veneta show 8-27-72. I don't know who it is making
announcements in between songs, but I assume it's Kesey. So the
announcer comes out and says something about he just heard from
the kids' tent and they're asking for their mommies and daddies.

Then a small bit later, he's heard to say:
"oh. yeah, yeah. if you don't know where the kids' tent is, it's
	located..."

at which point, Bobby jumps RIGHT IN and says:
"if you don't know where it is, you don't wanna know about it"
and immediately starts playing "Greatest Story"...

	now, that's smart.

I think it's Wavy Gravy but I forget... I'll have to dig out the video.

Good DBL ;-) And a great GSET!
