288.0. "Get Well Jerry ..." by CUPTAY::BAILEY (Season of the Winch) Mon Aug 17 1992 13:52

Deane has suggested that we send Jerry a DEChead t-shirt as a get-well
present. Well, I'm placing the order for the Version 2 shirts tomorrow,
and I'm ordering an extra XXL for Jerry ... I'll send it to the address
    posted elsewhere in the conference.

I thought it would be a nice idea if we also sent him our personal
get-well wishes. Let's use this Note for that purpose (no digressions,
please). When the shirts are ready in a week or so, I'll extract the
replies to this Note and send them along with the shirt.

    Dear Jerry,

Sorry to hear that you're not feeling well. Please take whatever time
you need to get well. You're really important to a lot of us and we
love you. You come first, ... the shows are important but you're far
more important and everyone knows that you push yourself way too hard.
I know you're tired. You need to rest.. to pace yourself better...
one tour a year instead of being constantly on the road maybe.

We've got a lot of work to do and it's no where near time to go yet.
I figure if you have to get into shape now, I'll keep you company and do
the same... it's a magickial act from one point on the hologram to another.
I'm probably as stubborn as you are and hate hospitals as much so we'd
better just bite the bullet and do this before we end up in one. You
won't see me but you'll know I'm there walking beside you.

You can't leave us, Jerry... you have to do this.. you have to take
care of yourself.. we need you. I'm casting all sorts of spells on
your behalf. Now get better, ok?

I love you... a lot of us do..

    take care now,

    Mary Stanley

    Dear Jerry,

Before I came to work at Digital and found a whole bunch of Deadheads,
I had only a passing interest in the Dead. I'd hear a song and I'd
say, "Oh, I like it.", but it didn't really mean a whole lot. But now,
after meeting all these people, and after hearing more of your
incredible music, it's all started to mean something to me. And so do
you. Please take better care of yourself. The pleasures in life
aren't worth it if you can't REALLY enjoy them. You seem to really
like sharing music with others, and we all appreciate it, but...we'd
all love it if you could be around to do it longer. Slow down a bit,
so you can do it for longer. I'd like the chance to see a live show
some time. And I just hope you get better. You've still got a lot of
life left in you. Take your time and enjoy it.

    Get well soon!

	Jerry,

I remember you as being quoted to saying that the positive
vibes brought on by Deadheads was uplifting and helped
speed your recovery throughout your illness in 86. Well,
I just wanted to ensure you that the vibes are coming in
strong from those of us in the electronic community and
are wishing you a very strong "get well soon". We have
quite a circle of friends here, the Digital Grateful notes
file by far one of the best support groups I have ever
encountered. We are now offering a circle of support
in your direction. It is important to me that you know,
because of the strong drive and commit that you offered
throughout the years, the music that you provide has
created a very positive and warming place in my life (not
to mention all the wonderful people I have met).
When I wanted to quite smoking I focused that energy
in the direction of my favorite hobby (skiing) it worked!!
Just think how much more pleasurable things like scuba
diving, or singing the last few lines of "So Many Roads"
will be when you are feeling at 100%.

From us to you, feel the energy, it's quite strong today,
feel the breeze, blowing towards your way.

					Fuck the cigarettes!
Get well, and take it easy!

    Hey Jerry:

Hope you're feeling a bit more in the sunny weather. I know that
it'll be tough for you to listen to the doc's and do what they say,
but then, you're smart enough to know they're right. I think about
when you were in the hospital before, and how hard it must have been
for you to give everything up. Now, they're telling you that you
need to give up what partially helped get you through that time. Too
bad eating fruit couldn't be addicting!!!!!

Seriously though, I think you're strong enough to do it. You have
got to have the largest support group one person could ever have.
Now's the time to take advantage and use that support! We're behind
    you, and we care.

Hope to see you healthy and ready to jam again real soon!

    Jerry,

Positive energy coming your way! You have thousands and thousands of
heads filled with your desire to get well again! There is still so
much left to tell, you need to get back in shape and SLOW down!

I want to take this chance to tell you THANK YOU for the music you have
given me (us). It has changed my life, as well as many others, and you
mean so much to all of us. Please take care and we'll see you again
    sometime soon......

Hey Jerry:

Hope these notes find you well on the way to full recovery. The enclosed
T-shirt may fit now, but we'll also send along the next version of the shirt in
a smaller size for the "new you". We appreciate all of the music and fun you've
shared with us and we're looking to much more after you get the rest you deserve.

Peace,

    Dear Jerry,
I am 20 yrs. old and have been listening to The Grateful Dead for
quite some time now. Working here at digital I have meet many more
deadheads than I ever imagined. I was supposed to go to the Boston
Garden shows in September, we mail ordered the tickets already. You
should really consider slowing down a little so you can continue to
give all of us and yourself the pleasure of listening to your music.
Although I haven't been to one of the shows I have been to the parking
lots outside of the shows and that was an experience all by itself. The
people you meet there is incredible. Well we are all praying for you to
get better because god knows our work of spreading peace, love, and
music is not done yet. There are still many more people out there that
haven't gotten the message you and your band are sending. Please take
care of yourself and slow down. We'll see ya at the next show!
    				Peace
One of your very loyal and grateful fans,
    				Tracy Bettencourt

Bobbb.... just one note: be sure to rip the notes headers off these entries
as it is against corp. policy to extract and distribute things from internal
notes files to non-dec people. ....

PS: I have a request: could y'all do a cover version of
"This Land Is Your Land" ? I think it would be poignant...

hey now Jerry - you're in my thoughts lately, man.
I listen to your music alot... everyday... and nowadays
when I do, I think about how you're doing and hoping for
	the best for you.

I believe in the power of collective thought, and you gotta
know and feel that power these days cause I know alot of it
is directed at you to help you in your recuperation.

I've gotten so much from your music over the years, and the scene
it inspires, and the folks that make up that scene...so much...
I can't give much back except to thank you and keep you in my
thoughts these days. I do and I am.

	Please take care.

	Love,
	Debess

    Hi Jerry,

Hope your feeling better. You have given me many years of untold
extreme pleasure. Please take the time you need to completly recover.
Having one of the best jobs in the world can rilly be dificult when
your not feeling well. So adjust. I'm sending you get well and stay
well vibes that I hope will help you find the strength to do so. You
mean a GRATE deal to me and you've got to know that it hurts me too
when I hear your not feeling well. Your good health and well being
are most important and if it warrants you having to stop touring then
do it. I hope and beleive this wouldn't be the case as I could go on
seeing you'se guys another 13 years, easily :^)

                                       Gratefully Yours,

Hi Jerry,

I hope you're following doctor's orders and getting rest and feeling better.
Don't dare get back on stage until you feel totally up to it. You and the band
are worth the wait.

You and the band have given me much pleasure over the past 5 years I've been
seeing you. I look forward to much more in the future. You guys are the
hardest working band in the world, and we know it, so take it easy and don't
feel obligated to play for 4 weeks at a time with only a day off every 3 days.

Good vibes from myself and Deadheads around the world are streaming towards
you!

And STOP SMOKING!! Chew some gum, instead (sugar-free, of course!)

Get Well Soon,

Adam Siegel
