LOS ANGELES -AP- Ticketmaster Corp. has agreed to acquire rival Ticketron,
the computerized ticketing agency said.

Ticketmaster didn't disclose terms of the deal for Landover, Md.-based
Ticketron, which is owned by Carlyle Group. Both companies are privately
owned.

Ticketmaster spokesman Larry Solters said a letter of intent for the

I just called up the 800 Ticketmaster number to see
about Dead tickets which go on sale Saturday...

I was only asking about Albany. She said the only
number which will be selling them is 1-518-476-1000
(am I shooting myself in the foot here ;-) - naw,
y'all would do the same for me!)...

Also, she said that only "local" Ticketmasters will
be selling tickets - she said there is one in Pittsfield
at BD Music on 247 North St. - but said to call there
and make sure ahead of time. If anyone does call there
to find out, can you let me know, I'm considering driving
	down there Saturday...

snagged a wristband yesterday form emerald square mall. the system
works like this: they had a large envelope filled with wristbands
that were in a big pile, the numbers being all mixed up. they
randomly pulled wristbands out and clipped them on the people
in line. i was fifth in line when they initiated distribution
at precisely 10:00 am. and recieved wb# 232199. they explained
that on saturday morning ticketpro's main office will call them
with the number for first in line.
fwiw, there were only about 15 people who got wristbands at 10:00
am. after i got mine i looked around EMS for about half an hour and
then checked back at the tp outlet. they still had what appeared to
be hundreds of wristbands left. i have a feeling people will be able
to show up saturday morning and still be able to get a wristband.

whatever the case & no matter how they do it, its a done deal. If you
have a low number (like Bud) hope they go in order. If you've got a
number like Dave I.'s, hope its random and they call a number slighlty
    lower than yours.

This reminds me of the Who show I went to in '89. I got a wristband
and heard they would call out a number. The ended up calling a number
2 higher than mine, so I was essentially next-to-last in line.

Still got tickets, but it was bummer after staying out all night in

if that was the case (starting from 1) what's stopping me from
tearing this wristband off and keep going back 'til i get a number
to my liking? (providing they still have mega-wristbands left, which
i don't doubt)....they are dishing out the numbers randomly there.
so if i got this right the outlet you went to handed out wristbands
starting with number one, two....so on??? if so obviously these
outlets are utilizing different techniques...is this legal???

ps> i'll bet more of the little known outlets, like the Video

ohhhhh....what to do. should i trash this wristband and try for
a lower number? i just can't see ticketpro operating that way. it's
too easy for for people to scam. you get a high number, just rip it
off and go back for another one a little while later. surely they
must have thought of this. i think i'll hold the booth lady to her

From my experience, they use the last 2 or 3 digits of the wristband, and, on
the day they are given out, you have as much a chance of being first on line as
anyone else. The number TicketPro calls in on Sat morning could be anything.

I stopped into the TicketPro outlet in Framingham (Premiere Video, next to
Herbie's Ice Cream near the Edgell Rd/Rt. 30 intersection) and they were all
out of wristbands. He said the service charge will be $3.25 per ticket ($0.50
less than ticketbastard). I may just show up there Sat morning without a
wristband (since it's so close to home :-)) and see what happens.

PEARL JAM COMPLAINS TICKET AGENCY PUT PRESSURE ON PROMOTERS 5/27/94

BY CHUCK PHILIPS
Special to the Los Angeles Times

In a memorandum to the U.S. Justice Department, the rock band Pearl Jam has
complained that Los Angeles-based Ticketmaster successfully pressured
promoters to boycott the band's low-cost concert tour this summer.

Lawyers for the Seattle-based band -- the biggest selling rock group in the
country -- made the complaint on May 6 in a memo to the department's
antitrust division. The memo accused Ticketmaster -- the world's largest
ticket agency -- of exercising a monopoly over ticket distribution in this
country and using that influence to keep promoters from booking the Pearl Jam
tour.

The memorandum, filed by Sullivan & Cromwell, a prominent New York law firm,
said Ticketmaster has exclusive arrangements with all important concert
venues in the country and uses these arrangements to ''cement control over
the distribution of tickets to concerts.''

The Justice Department has begun an evaluation of the memo, and sent three
officials from Washington to Los Angeles on Tuesday to interview music
business figures, sources said.

Such an evaluation is in some measure a standard response to such a
complaint. It is preliminary to a decision on whether to launch an
investigation.

A spokeswoman for the Justice Department declined comment. Representatives
for Pearl Jam also did not comment.

In a letter to the Los Angeles Times, Ticketmaster vice president Ned S.
Goldstein said ''Ticketmaster operates fully and squarely within the
parameters of all applicable laws.''

Sales of Pearl Jam's last two albums together exceeded $137 million.
Ticketmaster, which is privately held, last year reportedly earned about $200
million in service and sponsorship fees on $1.3 billion in sales of tickets
to concert and sporting events.

The Pearl Jam memorandum is likely to focus new attention on a growing furor
over skyrocketing concert ticket prices and service fees, and the
arrangements among managers, promoters and service companies that underlie
pricing decisions.

Ticketmaster collects a phone service fee for tickets to rock and pop
concerts, typically $6 to $8 per ticket, although the agency's fee for $350
tickets for Barbra Streisand shows amounted to $18 in some cities.
Ticketmaster pays a portion of the fees to maintain exclusive long-term
contracts with the owners of the largest concert venues. In addition,
Ticketmaster also pays a portion to some promoters, managers, agents and
artists.

In March, Pearl Jam sent letters to promoters vowing to perform concerts this
summer only at venues that charged $18 for a ticket and no more than $1.80
for service or handling charges. A representative of the band said Pearl Jam
was seeking to keep prices in the range of their young fans.

But sources in the concert industry said the group encountered immediate
resistance from Ticketmaster and members of the North American Concert
Promoters Association, a McLean, Va.-based group that represents the nation's
largest promoters.

In two letters obtained by The Times, Ben Liss, the executive director of the
association, warned promoters that if they booked Pearl Jam under the band's
conditions, they could face possible lawsuits.

Ticketmaster ''views the Pearl Jam issue as an all or nothing proposition,''
Liss wrote in one of his letters on March 24. Ticketmaster chief executive
Fred Rosen ''has indicated that he intends to take a very strong stand on
this issue to protect Ticketmaster's existing contracts with promoters and
facilities and, further, (Ticketmaster) will use all available remedies to
protect itself from outside third parties that attempt to interfere with
those existing contracts.''

Liss did not return phone calls seeking comment.

After being turned down by virtually every major promoter in the country for
bookings, Pearl Jam postponed its summer tour.

"PEARL JAM TAKES A SWING AT TICKETMASTER"
From the Los Angeles Times May 31, 1994

In March, Pearl Jam sent letters to promoters vowing to perform concerts this
summer only at venues that charged $18 for a ticket and no more than $1.80
for service charges. A representative of the band said Pearl Jam was seeking
to keep prices in the range of their young fans. But people in the concert
industry said the group encountered immediate resistance from Ticketmaster
and members of the North American Concert Promoters Association, A McClean,
Va.-based group that represents the nation's largest promoters.

In two letters obtained by the Los Angeles Times, Ben Liss, the executive
director of the association, warned promoters that if they booked Pearl Jam
under the band's conditions, they could face possible lawsuits. After being
turned down by virtually every major promoter in the country for bookings,
Pearl Jam postponed its summer tour.

In April, Ticketmaster was accused of creating an illegal monopoly on ticket
sales and violating a Florida law against ticket scalping. A class-action
suit alleges the ticket company violated federal antitrust laws through
exclusive sales agreements. Nine other defendants - the 4 Miami-area sports
teams and promoters - were also named in the lawsuit. A Ticketmaster
spokesman said the company complies with all regulations.

    headers removed....

In one of the busiest seasons ever for concerts, the hot young
band Pearl Jam is on the sidelines because of a dispute over ticket
prices with the nation's biggest ticket broker.
The U.S. Justice Department began an investigation into
    possible
anti-competitive actions in the concert industry after the band's
lawyers filed a complaint last month.
The battle between rockers and Ticketmaster Corp., a
computerized ticket network that has grown to dominate how tickets
are bought and sold nationwide, could eventually affect concert
    ticket prices across the country.
Seattle-based Pearl Jam sought to book a concert tour this
summer to capitalize on the success of the 8 million-selling album,
``Vs.'' The band wanted to keep concert tickets at $18 apiece.
``We know we can go into Madison Square Garden and sell it out
at $50 a ticket, but we would alienate a lot of our fans,'' said
    Kelly Curtis, the band's manager.
Pearl Jam also wanted to keep service charges on the tickets to
no more than $1.80. Ticketmaster refused, Curtis said.
Since the demise of chief competitor Ticketron three years ago,
Los Angeles-based Ticketmaster has arranged for ticket sales at the
overwhelming majority of the nation's concert arenas. It has
exclusivity deals with many arenas and promoters.
Ticketmaster charges service fees ranging from $4 to $15 on top
of ticket prices, according to the complaint filed with the Justice
    Department.
``There should be some kind of fairness to it,'' Curtis said.
``If you have a low ticket price, you should have a low service
charge. They're not accountable to anyone and it's frustrating.
They have this kind of attitude of, `If you don't like it, then go
someplace else.' And they know there is nowhere else to go.'''
The band found it impossible to book a tour without the
cooperation of Ticketmaster. In its complaint, Pearl Jam alleged
that Ticketmaster organized a boycott of the band with concert
    promoters.
Ticketmaster said Pearl Jam has no right to determine what it
    charges for its service.
Ticketmaster spokesman Larry Solters said Pearl Jam is using
    the
service charge issue as a smokescreen for the band's own greed. He
said Pearl Jam tried to dictate merchandising deals with promoters
to give the band more money than the industry standard. Pearl Jam
also refused to compromise with the company, he said.
Meanwhile, a group of concertgoers in Seattle filed a lawsuit
Wednesday against Ticketmaster, charging it with antitrust
    violations.
Samantha Hazzard, Susan Robins and Lila Hurwitz charged that
TicketMaster has a monopoly that causes unfairly high ticket prices
    in Washington and Oregon.
The lawsuit also names the North American Concert Promoters
Association. The fans said large portions of the service charges
are ``paybacks'' to arena owners and promoters.
A spokesman for the promoters would not comment.
Ned Goldstein, counsel for Ticketmaster, said ``the whole thing
is a PR move to sell CDs.''
Concert prices have skyrocketed in general this summer, led by
tickets of more than $100 to shows by the Eagles and Barbra
    Streisand.
Some other artists have come to Pearl Jam's support. Pamela
Lewis, the manager for Garth Brooks, said fans blame the artist if
ticket prices are too high. Brooks tries to keep his tickets under
    $20, she said.
``Wouldn't it be great for the industry if a concertgoer could
go to several concerts -- instead of just one concert that wipes out
their entire entertainment budget?'' Lewis said.

this is what i really like - they're being accused of both violating
anti-trust laws AND anti-scalping laws. hopefully something will come from
at least one of those approaches.

most outrageous surcharge that i've heard of so far: for some show (don't
remember what) at a club in providence. $9 ticket. surcharge for purchasing
a single ticket through ticketmaster: $5. 55% of the face value!!!
outrageous...

I got a chuckle in re-reading that note....

    >Ticketmaster said Pearl Jam has no right to determine what

HAHAHA!! Ummmm, isn't that a kinda hypocritical type statement???

    >Ticketmaster spokesman Larry Solters said Pearl Jam is using
    > the service charge issue as a smokescreen for the band's own greed. He

    HAHAHAHA!!!!

I really think TM better get themselves some new spokespeople
before they make more of an ass out of themselves.

funny is right, just because some1 gos to a concert doesn't mean they
will buy a T-shirt and PJ cds were selling by the millions way before
this started....I see a lot of anti-trust issues with Ticketmaster and
I do hope a lot of them come to the surface (like how these out-of-state
ticket places seem to have tickets before Ticketmaster sells them ?!?)

anyone a lawyer in here?? we could file a class-action against TM!

the high price of tix is one reason why don't really go anymore. by the time
i add up tickets, food, gas, pahking, etc, for deb and i, it comes out to
nearly $100.00 or so. for $100.00, i can go see many many good acts in bars
around the boston area... just seems wasteful at this point... for the
dead tix, what was the svc charge for 4 tix? i think it was $20 or so!!!

I was watching CNN last nite and it looks like the class-action suit
has picked up a few more states and Mass was one of them, I think the
count of states is now at 8.....looks like PJ started a snowball into a
avalanche....thanks PJ for opening some eyes !

service charge for the latest dead tix was 3.50 each.
so for four it was $14.
but why not a 1-time svc charge of 3.50 instead of per ticket,
	that's what i don't understand.

Yeah that's what the hotline says so hopefully NE1 that mail ordered
will find out soon if they gotta do the line/call thing for TM.

On sale dates, from the hotline:

Philly - Feb. 18
Charlotte - Feb. 18
Atlanta - Feb. 25

They better get the Philly tix back before the 18th! I got shafted big time
last year when I got rejected and the envelope arrived after the on-sale date
for MSG and of course they were completely sold out by then!

I also wish they'd stagger the on-sale dates so there's only one city per
on-sale date!

From various sources it looks like ticketmaster places like (in the
nashua area) Coconuts/filenes and there are supposedly no wristbands
    - just get on line in plenty of time for the opening shot ....errr...
time of 9 am. any idea how much anyone???

I called ticketmaster and they confirmed no wristbands for the dead. They
are aware of the phish conflict but they say Dead tix are on sale at 9 am
and Phish tix on sale at 10. This says nothing about the ticket outlets
who may refuse to open at 9 am (I guess it's their right, maybe not if
they're under contract to ticketshafter?). As for the lines of fans lining
up early in the morning, they said there will be separate lines so I don't
have anything to worry about.

yeah right.
