actually JC, if I get super blitzed (me?) I'd crash at yer elite condo
so's the Park County DUI squad has someone else to follow. Tumbledown
is only 20-30 miles from Brek (the brewery anyway) but it's all uphill
    and curvy. chances are
Tom Lawlor and Divide Dave will be there too and maybe a few other
ex-dec-heads and current-deadheads...this is all, of course, SUBJECT TO

As a homebrewer, i put back a few every now and then, and, as some of you
know in here, it is pretty easy at my house with the keg in the fridge with
a tap comin' outta da front... yum... had a few too many 22oz pete's
last night, but i'm dealing ok!!!!!!!!!!

here's the deal with out elite condo, which, imo, doesn't look _that_ elite
from the brochure...

we have 5 people coming out to colo.... me, deb, deano, slashmon, and richf.
we're only allowed to have 6 people in the condo, otherwise we get evicted
with no ?s asked and total loss of monies.... so, we're gonna stick to the
6-person limit, as i surely don't wanna f2k my vaca up; i'm sure ya'll
understand where we're comin' from.

BUT...

i'm ready to pahty with you guys when i get out there. 2/26 at that bar
we be pahtyin' ...........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

82.12Speaking from inexperienceMILKWY::SAMPSONDriven by the windThu Jan 13 1994 13:1410
Deane-o, western glades, the one I've skied, are nothing like the
hardwood of the east. They are not hidden, the trees are more widel
spaced and in many cases there are lots of snowy branches to pad the
truncks. I could be off base, because I've never skied Colo. but I
    think I'm close.

But it would be worth your while to get used to putting 205s
    through bamp lines for practice.

Glennn, there is no 6 person max at Tumbledown, only a two case per nite
    mimimum.....%^)

JC, already got mail from Deane-o explaining the condo situation...and
as I told him, no big deal, I've driven over Hoosier many times from
the brewery , and with the right medication.....
Besides, Blue River is closer to Tumbledown and Alma than Breck is, so
after the Brewerry and Shakedown, we'll make a pit-stop in Blue River
and then over Hoosier to Tumbledown....as I told Deane-o, Blue River
    area has some grate XCing...

i hope there is no hahd feelings over this mon.... it is their rules, not
mine. i guess at one time or another, it got abused and they were forced to
put some rules down.... i hate rules, but i'd guess i'd hate getting thrown
out even more, espec. since we shelled out a couple $$$ gettin' to colo
in the first place.

i do wanna pahty with ya'll though, no doubt!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i wish i could bring a keg of HB with me to colo, but, my luggage is

definitely welcome to come over for a night cap though!!!!!!!! hey, does

sizes???

thought you knew me better that that JC, no hard feelings at ALL,
MAN!!! I understand completely. Can't say that I blame the
condo-rental-peopel at all. Like I said, Tumbledown is just over the
pass. Your condo is between Tumbledown and the Breck Brewery.

Breck Brew comes in bottles from the Brewery, the big ones like
    Stienlagers.

Cool you folks are coming out to Breckenridge, I'm sure you all
will have a grate time ! and you'll get to check out Shakedown steet
too. That's right about the time the skiing starts to get real good
    around here as well !
Yea, all of the tree/glade skiing in summit county is through
evergreen type trees since the elevation is so high. Aspens groves
don't exist much over 10000 feet and the base elevation at all of the
summit areas is close to that ! There is also plenty of open bowl
skiing avalable that I'm sure you will all enjoy.
JC ... the Breck brewery does have these container type thing that
they sell in addition to bottled beer. I have heard them refered to as
party pigs or something like that ! I'm not sure if they are refillable
    or not though.

O'Toole's is on Ridge St. which is one block east of Main St. like
Mark said. If you are heading up Main St. from the south, like you
were heading over there from the brewery, hang a right at Washington
St. and you'll run into Ridge just south of O'toole's. Or as Mark said
Ridge St. runs into Main right at the brewery on the south edge of town.
Breckenridge is not that big of a town so you shouldn't have too much
    trouble finding anyplace.

I had a dream last night where I was skiing in Colorado.
I skied off a cornice and down this expert slope which
then deposited me into a bustleing western town square.
Still skiing, I passed through a set of swinging doors
and into a pub where a band was playing. I skied right up
to the bar where a group of people that have been
significant to me, at one time or another, stood, all
of them had looked displeased. I looked at them,
then looked at the bartender, and said "bartender, git
me a scotch on the rocks, and make it a double!!!".....
Everyone in the whole place started laughing and the
music started back up.....I then woke up!

Just out of curiosity, does Colorado have bars where you
	can ski up to??????

No offense, but I've never quite understood what
attracts people to see the Milk Crates. I've seen them
several times, usually by accident at Martha's, and they
always draw a big crowd. Even though they play alot of
the music that I really enjoy, I've usually found them
quite uninspiring musically...but they do attract a
large crowd, in fact, usually a packed house at Martha's
Meat Market (tm)... I happened to stop by there a
coupla thursday's ago after leaving ZKO quite late, and
the crowd was impressive, if not the music.

I guess I just don't get it...

SHAKEDOWN STREET at Shamus O'Toole's in Breckenridge this Sat nite!
                              August 26
All Colorado Heads are welcome to come and camp/stay at
                Tumbledown Shack in Park County

Come Saturday, party, BBQ, fish, drink, eat, fish some more and get
ready for SHAKEDOWN !! we'll head to the brewery if it's not too
crowded, for brews before and then dance our asses off at O'TOOLES.

    Directions to Tumbledown:

take I-24 west out of Colorado Spgs, up Ute PAss, thru Woodland Park, thru
Divide, over Ute Pass, thru Floressant, over Wilkerson Pass, thru
beautiful South Park, thru Hartsel. Right outside of Hartsel take a
right on Hiway 9. Take Hiway 9 till it deadends into Hiway 285 outside
of Fairplay. Take a right on 285 and go towards Fairplay. Cross the
South Platte River and look for Hiway 9 taking off again to your left
and into Fairplay. DO NOT SPEED IN FAIRPLAY!!! Go thru Fairplay,
towards Alma. About a mile *before* Alma there's a left, marked by a
green Forest Service sign, that says Mousquito Gulch Road. Take that dirt
road left about .5 mile to Tumbledown. Tumbledown is a grey house with red
trim. In the "driveway" there's a yellow Scout covered with a blue
tarp. (If I'm not in it fishing) Across the street is a bunch of old,
unoccupied, yellow, rundown cabins. Can't miss it! If you go into Alma,
you've gone too far. The whole TRIP takes about 1 hour and 45 mins from
the west side of the Spgs.

to the left at the resevoir. In a couple miles, you will enter
Sterling. YOu will see the Sterling Junction Home Center store on
your left. Afther this will be Boutelle Road on the left. Take this
left and go straight at the 4-way intersection. If you miss Boutelle,
take a sharp left onto BEan Road a little ways up and take a right
onto Boutelle at the 4-way intersection.

You will see a school on your left. The entertainment tent is directly
behind the school; that's where the performances are. If you get lost
go to the information booth (near the center of the fair grounds) and
somebody will help you out.

Tammany Hall is on Pleasant Street in Wormtown, right across the street
from the "Shawmut/Fleet?" building...the big glass tower, you could use
that as a landmark...Tammany is a few doors away from the infamous,
maybe now defunct (?don't know about that) "Fine Arts" a film
establishment, specializing in films with scantily clad, alleged actors
    and actresses :)))

what Wes said... :^) Pleasant St is one way down to Main so depending
on how you get there you may have to swing around the block... there's
not much parking right in fron of the the place, but there's lots as
you go around the block... (chestnut st i think?)

the sportsmans club is on the left off rt 140 in shrewsbury... from
290, take 140 south... a few hundred yards south of the highway
there's a turnoff that goes downhill to the left for the sportsman's

    about 9:30 both nights...

as for the weather, they didn't say anything about freezing rain at the
noon report, but yes, i'll certainly forgive you... :^)

    as for more explicit directions...

let's say you were coming in on route 290... now, you certainly don't
HAVE to come in on route 290, but if you choose another route, you are
on your on and i am not responsible... (whehter i am responsible one
way or the other is debateable i suppose but that is neither here
nor there... well, i guesss it is kind of "here", and i can't really
say if it's "there" since i'm not sure which "there" we are discussing
and there are indeed, multiple "there's"... which i don't think is
debateable at all, except for the fact that one might argue that with
one "here" then anyplace else becomes "there" making all "there's"
    essentially one...)

so let's say you came down route 290... (this is where you all say "ok
da ve, we came down route 290" did you say it yet? good, we can move
    on)...

you are looking for the exit where the Aku-Aku is... central st i
believe... i have no idea wat exit number it is... if you're coming
from the east (therefore travelling west) when you get to the bottom of
the ramp you will turn right... if you are coming from the west (and
threfore travelling east) you will turn left (at the end of a much
longer ramp)... in any case, you're heading past the Aku-aku and in
the general direction of main street...

you are now confronted with choices (fear not, choices, though often
blind, are a part of life a fraught with possibility)... you may
either continue forward on central st, through several traffic lights and
other potential obstructions (like pedestrians, which should be
carefully watched for as they can sometimes cause dents to your
vehicle) until you reqach main st, where you will turn left OR
you may continue forward until you reach Worcester Center Bvd (as in
Boulevard, not the underwear manufacturer) where you shuld turn left
towards the centrum... if you choose this route, when you get to the
centrum you will turn right as you pass it and proceed up to main
street, where like the other people who choose the more direct route,
    you will also turn left...

you will proceed through (i think) two traffic lights (presumably green
though i make no promises)... be watchful on your right for a one way
street that comes down to main... if you see the one way st, and it
also has a sign that says "pleasant st" (whether or not it actually is
a "pleasant" st is left to your own judgement) then you are in the
right (as in "correct or appropriate" as opposed to "turn here" which
you can't legally do since you'd then be going the wrong way on a one
way street, even though you would only be going one way at the time)
neighborhood... for additional landmarks (should you need them, and
you just might) fromthe corner of pleasant and main you should see a
large glass tower (a bank building) and worcester city hall
(across and on the left, considerably smaller and NOT a bank building)
    ...

conitnue down main st... on your right, after pleasant st and the bank
building, you will see the denholm building... denholm's is no longer
housed there, but the building is still called "the denholm building"
and it still says "denholm" on the building, which is why they still
call it (you guessed it!) the denholm building! (for history buffs,
this is also the site on one of Abby Hoffman's first organized
protests... Abby is from Worcester and picketed this building due
to the fact that at the time it was the largest dept store in town
and refused to hire blacks... true story)... after the (as you now
know, historic) denholm building, you will see Chatham St onthe
right... TURN RIGHT ON CHATHAM... take your first right onto, i think
Chestnut st.... the next right will be pleasant (uh, the street, if
not the actual experience) heading back down 1 block to main... i
usually park on what is i think chestnut, and walk the half block down
to Tammany Hall... there are metered spaces on chestnut and they are
    free after 6 pm...

any questions??? if you are going to Wes 'n Karen's and need direx
there, you need to speak to Wes, since i would not be so bold as to
post direx to his abode on the net, and i'd probably get you lost
    anyway... :^)

Actually, Green Acres is in Ashland. After you head west out of Framingham

take over a note just for Cross the Water's schedule...

well after having last week off to do some kayaking and other
fun stuff (awww, c'mon, i know you missed us... :^), we're off and
jammin' again this week... back to the land of free free food
and reasonably priced beer:

the Tammany Club on pleasant st in Worcester, thursday may 2

and for those of you who insist on paying for your food and drinking
strong rum drinks with little umbrella's in them:

the Wong Dynasty off rt 31 in Holden, friday may 3rd...

it's our first visit to the Wong so we're hoping for a pretty
good turnout for that one... also this week, we get more ink,
including a listing as one of Worcester Magazines "Pick's of
the Week"... :^)

stay tuned for what seems to be shaping up to be an AWESOME
summer of really cool things!!!!!!!

what sort of things you say???

well, Slip into Summer for one... and some of the other things we're
working on include a day of hot tunes and remembering Jerry with
Cross the Water, Slipknot, and others outdoors at Wachusett Mtn
for the 1st anniversary of Jerry's passing over... a weekend of camping
and rock'n'roll in Spencer with LOTS of different bands over a couple

looks like a full summer of groovin' happenings...

things are looking very good but there' a lot that's not decided
yet...

also, i can't take credit for much of what's happened... all
i did was have an idea and plant a few seeds... other like
minded folks really took the idea and ran with it such that
it's really completely out of my hands now... the original
idea has evolved into a couple of diferent events too...
for my part i'm happy just to be able to take part...

like so many other things in this world, it's become a lot bigger
than the individuals involved... :^)

so yes, it would be around the 10th, but it's still subject to
approval... i promise, as i find out more, i'll pass the info along
so everyone can make plans...

The Black Orchid is yer basic pubby-restaurant deal on Rt 9 in Shrewsbury...they
like to book the place, so while bands play downstairs in the club, they have
singles dances or dinner-theatre, or mystery theatre, in a function room right
above the club...the club is pretty basic, kinda low ceiling, which makes it
funky for mixing sound, so we just turn it up !!! They do a pretty good bizniz,
though I don't know if I'd recommend dinner there...I've had lunch there a few
times, and while it wasn't Real Bad, it wasn't food to write home about either.

Last week when we played there an African Funeral (no, not a play) was the
function upstairs...a real funeral/party thrown by a guy from Africa, whose
sister died over there 6 months ago...the dj's that played that event had more
friggin' PA equipment than we do...we had to turn up, cuz the ceiling was
thumpin like crazeeee...

Anyway, there usually is a pretty decent crowd, hopefully lotsa single young
ladies lookin' to dance etc...:)

Look for Karen O, she'll be there tonight

Has anoyone gone to the new El Morocco, in Worcester? I saw an ad
for shows there. Tomorrow night its the Jefferson Air-typwe
vehicle...not sure if its an airplane, or a star ship, or maybe a
    biplane.

Its supposed to be Marty Balin, and Paul Kantner and others....
I can't see those two on the same stage, but well....

    	It seats 200.

They did (Saturday). Thanks to dc I went too and hooked up
with both dc & cath. It was fun! We stood by the side
of the stage so had a good close view. After the show the
band came down and signed autographs, unfortunately I had
nothing to sign. Someone said, Paul, how long will you
guys keep playing? Till we're dead, he said. (Something
like that). Anyway they had a young singer who sang very
much in the Grace Slick mode. Marty sounded great and Kantner's
licks are certainly distinguishable. No sign of Jack Cassidy.
I can't give you a song list, maybe sloan can.

Prairie Prince (from the Tubes) was on drums, he's also playing
with Todd Rundgren. So we called him over and said hi.

And thanks for the news on the Jefferson whatever. I saw them as
Accoustic Explorer at the Old Vienna. That was Paul, Jack, the same
female singer (wow that sounds so bad), and a keyboard player. Paul
played lots of 12 string guitars, kept changing between songs.

I did tape them, if anyone is interested.

I actually would have liked to see "KBC" make another record; although due
to the turnout at the Paradise on their only trip through Boston I think that
Rae and I were the only ones or nearly the only ones who felt that way :)
There were about 100 or so ?maybe 200 to see KBC; Kantner/Balin/Cassady.

Really was good too.

bob

ps. I prefer Hot Tuna over any Jefferson BLAHrehash :) had to say it....
pps. I once saw Fleetwood Mac open for Jefferson Airplane when the 2 were
doing "career reversals". The Mac was skyrocketing to the top just before
Rumors and Airplane was on the way down....excellent show!
