523.0. "Interesting Places (URLs) on the WWWeb " by JARETH::LARU () Fri Apr 05 1996 13:49

How 'bout a note to list WebPages that you've found
interesting for any reason at all...

Probably most useful to include a topic in the title of the
reply, and the URL in the body, with a review (or not)
    as you deem appropriate.

For a *nice*, colorful history of Haight-Ashbury:

This page is a chronology of events that took place in the district
from 1965-1969 and has an incredible number of links to other bands
(Country Joe, Quicksilver, Cream, Moby Grape, CSNY, to name a few),
Bill Graham, stores, the Trips Festival Program, even the Hell's
Angels. There are also links to many other 60s resources, such as the
Digger archives and Haight-Ashbury Free Press.

    re Leary's Last Trip

I'd heard that the video ends with them carrying off his head to
put in cryogenic storage (oh darn, now I blew it for you all!) but
that this never happened. They do show them making a cast of him
at one point, which is where the supposed head came from. He was
cremated, and they plan on sending some of his ashes into
    space.

Would any of you guitar players be interested in:

	    Fiber optic neck light systems!!!

Now you can play in the dark! The guitar necklight is a powerful tool
which aids the player by illuminating the position markers on the
instrument to help provide a solid point of reference when playing in
dark environments. It is extremely helpful for those with poor vision.
The system provides incredible stage performance visuals. It's small,
transparent, and lightweight design features include non-obstructed hand
movements, and appears invisible when not on.

See http://www.fornits.com/necklight for all the details...

business related....except for the 511 notes in grateful and the 236
    notes in grateful_old.

Some of this must just be longevity. I see Norm Lastovica as number
183 and he hasn't been with the company for some time.

load the url a cupl back, barnesy.

it searches the notesfile real-time and adds up all the notes by
a particular node::username, then ranks them by whatever criteria
	you specify.

	CXODOCS::BARNES posted 2,184 notes between  8-APR-92 and 29-NOV-95
	 SPECXN::BARNES posted 1,416 notes between 30-NOV-95 and 26-FEB-97

as to why someone would do this?
i believe it was as a result of indexing and searching notesfiles
	for *useful* information. i.e.

AltaVista Notes Simple Query
http://altavista.notes.lkg.dec.com:8000/

there are many technical and business notesfiles. if you know
that you saw the answer to your question in a notesfile
someplace, but can't recall where it was, you can use altavista
to search all notesfiles. it's actually very useful.

re: The no TV week. You know I was thinking, yeah, noble idea
and all that, but why did they have to pick the week when
we finally get new episodes of Babylon 5, after months of
re-runs? And then something else occurred to me, and you
know what? I'm smelling a conspiracy here (hey, others have
seen ones in other places, I'm due a conspiracy note!)
I'm beginning to get a nasty suspicion that the Religious
Right is behind the whole thing! This is a carefully planned
underground movement to get the liberal minded folks to
avoid watching the episode of "Ellen" where Ellen reveals,
or discovers for herself, that she is gay. The RR is already
freaked out by this, and they've influenced a number of
advertisers to back out of commercial time during the
show, and some to drop the show all together, as KMart
dropped the Fuzz-man. But normal, free-thinking folks who
would not be bothered or disturbed by Ellen's coming out
are just the type to be swayed by the notion that it would
do you a world of good to turn the TV off for a week.
And then the RR will use this dip in ratings to hype the
fact that homosexuals and lesbians are not family fare and
should be banned from the airwaves.

Well, I'm not buying it! Sure, I'll turn the TV off for
a week, maybe more, but I'll do it according to my
schedule, and not during an "arbitrary" week where
interesting things are being shown. And Mike, I have this
notion in the back of my head that you don't even have
a TV. So I want you to go out and buy a state of the
art system today, complete with surround sound. With your
interest in SF, I know you could get into Babylon 5
which really deserves a good sound system. Don't bow
to this scam towards political correctness. Choose to
view selectively, not to blanket everything under the
    term of mindless trash...
