224.0. "da ve for president? :^)" by ROULET::DWEST (Dont Overlook Something Extraordinary) Fri Dec 06 1991 18:14

well, here we are... looking at another election and all the rhetoric
is starting... especially all the rhetoric about "where are all the
    good candidates???"

from where i sit it would seem that the public is crying out for
someone who truly represents the interests of the american people...
NOT someone that represents the interests of lots of PACs and
    special interest groups...

i always liked Wavy Gravy's routine that he did called "Nobody for
President"... if i remember this weekend while i am hanging out at
home i will dig it out of my books and type it in... anyway, it got me
thinking... if nobody is really the only one qualified to run, and
everybody sez that they want nobody to tell them what to do, and since
nobody has all the answers, i thought "gee da ve, politically, you are
about as much of a nobody as you can get! why don't YOU run for
president?" after all, look at all the other political nobody's that
have run before! Pat Paulsen, Mickey Mouse, Richard Nixon (and he even
won!)... what can i lose running a grass roots campaign???

and there it is... due to the recent discussions in this file, i find
myself debating on whether or not i should declare my candidacy...
before i do however, i need to do a little checking on how much support
there is out there for a down to earth, good karma kinda guy like
myself... as such this note is dedicated to replies on the subject of
    "da ve for president"...

what i need from you now is:

    		do i have your support???

do you have any neato campaign slogans????

    		suggestions about a platform???

i assure you that all replies will be looked at as seriously as is
possible for me (keep in mind that i am usually considered to be a
pretty silly person and if this idea itself isn't evidence of that i
don't know what is) and no idea will be considered too ridiculous...

i will accept no monetary campaign contributions whatsoever until such
time as i o-fish-ally declare my candidacy...

the "committe to elect da ve" has now been officially formed... anyone
who is silly enough, or ballsy enough to say publicly "i support da ve
as my candidate of choice for president of the united states and i
gladly serve on the committee to elect him" is a member... there are
    no other requirements...

i will decide whether or not to run, on or before march 16,1992 (my
birthday)... so have at it folks! let's hear from the deadhead
    consitituency!!!

    		bumper sticker ideas:

    			"just say YES!"

    			"just say PFFEH to republicrats"

"if you feel like your vote doesn't matter,
vote for da ve... what difference does it make?"

"the only candidate who categorically denies being
qualified for the job is obviously the only
candidate smart enough to hold office..."

"i may not know what i'm doing, but then again,
    			does anyone??"

Yes, I believe this is the case. So, you may just squeeze by in '96!!!

You can put together a pretty good campaign in 4+ years!

are you sure about 35 as the age? i believe Teddy Roosevelt was a mere
34 when he made it into office... either way, it looks like '92 is
    out... oh well...

that does leave me four years to formulate my platform though! :^)

    					da ve
224.12BCSE::ABBOTMon Dec 09 1991 13:037
Teddy Roosevelt was 42 when he became president after McKinley was
shot. He was the youngest to hold the office, but Kennedy was the
youngest to be elected to it (43 or 44). The 35 requirement is in one
    of the amendments.

    da ve.,
do you really want the press digging into yer past? ya know that's all
they do when a candidate announces intentions such as yers. You
probably will have tons of friends that will want to come forward (to
tabloids such as the Sun and the Star and the Enq.) and say things like
"hey, remember the time da ve did........" just to gain noteriaity(sp)
Not that I think a candidate should actually care, hell, Gary Hart
    woulda got my vote too!

224.14no run this year... :^)ROULET::DWESTDont Overlook Something ExtraordinaryMon Dec 09 1991 13:3518

no, i don't really want anyone digging into my past... but on the
other hand, there isn't a whole lot there that i would be afraid of
dealing with... mostly anything anyone could want to know about my
past, i will tell them myself if they only ask... :^)

since , in the course of these particular human events, it has become
necessary for a people (namely me) to be 35 years of age before being
eligible to obtain this high office, i will not be running in '92... :^)
personally, i feel it is age discrimination, but since i don't really
want the job (imho-one of my best qualifications for it! :^) i'm not
    overly disappointed...

i will wait until i have discussed the candidacy of my esteemed

So, by default, yer entire party should be based on a PARTY!!!!

BTW, on a more controversial political statement (not that da ve's

the owner is surprised at the interest (store's only been open a week)
a good political plateform to promote! IMO of course.

well, just for the record, i want to state unequivocably here in this
forum that i am NOT a candidate for the office of president of the
united states in election year '92...

that being said, i would like to alert you all to a campaign being run
by someone who is obviously trying to capitalize on my name, fame, and
great public following... boy, you become a star of stage and screen
and everyone wants in on the act...

thanks to a very alert supporter (Bob Hapgood of the New Hampshire
delegation), the following ad was forwarded to me adfter being removed
from his local paper (sorry, can't remember the name of the paper)...

    ad starts:

    				Da Vid
    			      The New Age
                               President

                             	  and
    			    FUNd-RAISING PARTY

    ad ends...

now, obviously, this guy is an imposter... for one thing, he has used
too many capital letters and not enough periods... anyone who knows
me and my press releases would see that in a minute... i liek the idea
of a FUNd-RAISING PARTY but i don't like the fact that he is charging
for admission... this goes against all my political beliefs!!!
voluntary donations are ok, but charging admission??? come on!!!!

please be aware, i am NOT connected with this imposters campaign in
any way, shape or form... i neither support o oppose this person until
such time as more information on the candidate comes out... until such
time, i must remain ever vigilant!!!!! anyone who picks up more
information about this individual and/or his campaign, will endear
