558.0. "Dicks Picks 7" by QUOIN::BELKIN (but from that cup no more) Wed Feb 19 1997 15:52

Just reposting something I picked up. I have no idea when DP7 will be
released. No Peggy-O... I'm bummed... ;-)

Track listing for DP7, from a r..m.gd post by Steve Silberman. From the
9/9-11/74 Alexandra Palace shows in London, though no details of which show
each song came from:

The March issue of ICE magazine also stated that you can now
order an Allman Brothers CD from 1-800-CAL-DEAD!

Apparently the Allmans gave Dick the okay to release one of
the Allmans sets from the 2/13-14/70 Fillmore East run when
they warmed up for the Dead.

In my latest bid for the distinction of most-pointless-exercise-ever,
here's my idle speculation as to which DP7 cuts come from which show...

No doubt the real truth has been posted in r.m.gdead. - JayC.

  Guess not.

Remember how Hunter only recently managed to introduce Dick to the web...?
Could be someone went & introduced Dick to *graphics*. - JayC.

I just got mine Saturday, 4 days after I order it! Grate customer
service. So far only listened to CD1, seems pretty average.
558.12Very fine!RDVAX::LEVYRun Like an AntelopeMon Mar 17 1997 11:1622
I've listened to this set a couple of times now. I find nothing
average about it at all (Sorry Tom).

The opening Scarlet is a bit rough, but has alot of nice interaction
between the instruments. Row Jimmy is sweet and slow. Tennessee is a
fine version, and Playing is long, winding, and out in space (but not
    one for the Donna haters).

Weather Report Suite is very gentle and tasty. Truckin -> Wharf Rat is
    very fine.

NFA is one of the best I've ever heard. Dark Star is beautiful and the
Dew that follows it is excellent.

Overall, the playing on these disks is tasty, a bit restrained in
places, but shows all the elements that I look for in a Dead
    experience.

    Way to go, Dick!

> Does Joplin sing on the Lovelight?

I believe you're thinking of the show rumored for "next vault release".

That's just an ember in someone's pipe at this point. Noone has confirmed
that's really the next "vault" release, nor whether Janis (co-billed with
the Dead that night) sang on Lovelight.

DP7: Just finished a first listen... DS > Morning Dew is fantastic,
might shape up as one of my two favorite Dews. The first listen came
alive for me halfway through the package -- everything from Brown-Eyed
Women to the end, including all of Disc 3, was golden. - JayC.

Whoever it was that thought DP 7 was just average should really
listen to it again....I love it..!!! The NFA, DarkStar disk is
worth the price alone....as I am fond of saying...it's killa!!!!

Got my first taste of this over the weekend at a friend's, mostly just
the Dark Star -> Spam Jam sequence. One of the main things that struck
me, Phil is out in FULL FORCE! He's way up in the mix, and playing out
of his mind. A must for Phil-o-philes.

Yes, Definately the Phil zone for this one....That is an excellent
set. The first disk has that great Playin, the 2nd has the WRSuite
and the 3rd has the NFA>DS>DEW...

Very nice.
