some south american (ecuador?) stuff...

jols... yep, there is a parking lot but most people don't know it... :^)
at the top of the block on the opposite side from Tammany is a lot...
there's a chain on the pleasant st side a lot of the time, but the other side is
always open... there's a big sign on it proclaiming it to be a private lot
for residents/employees etc... but under it there's a smaller sign that
sez free parking for Tammany Hall evenings...

don't know what Prilly sounds like... they supposedly have
a strong following up in he fitchburg leominster area, but i've
not heard them myself so beyond that i can't say... i have
seen April sing before in another band (can't remmebr the name)
and she was ok back then (few years ago) but this is a whole

oh, and for people who are following along, the Mtn Jam
that we were working on at Wachusett Mountain for the
anniversary of Jerry's Passing, is NOT going to be happening
	after all...

apparently there were a number of complaints/concerns
brought forward by area residents (hey if you move in next to a
ski area why are you surprised about traffic and noise??)
and since the mountain just got out of court fights about
its expansion plans, the state would not issue the permit
	for the event...

we are working on something else now that is most certainly
in the realm of a "good karma event" and not about making
gobs of money (which was the ski area's thing)... film at 11...

When you sai Leominster I thought about the townsend crowd. NOw you say
April and I'm sure it's the townsend crowd. If I remember April correctly she's
a big fan of the blues and likes to sing Janis J. covers.

I was thinking that I haven't seen them around at shows in a while, but
I realize it's me who hasn't been there. It'll be nice to get out for music
again. I must admit I'm also looking forward to sailing the next day.

Bingo! Geoff, you hit it right on the head...

it's the same April and the same folks... i just
got of the phone with Mr Mandaro and asked him
how i could describe April's new project and he
said "think of Janis... lot's of blues in that style..."
biker chick sings the blues kind of thing... and
apparently they're pretty good... :^) i know April
can sing... i'm curous to see how the band plays!

also, a couple of clarifications for people who've asked
	in mail and elsewhere:

	yes to coolers
	no to bottles and cans
yes to bottles of water, juice, etc just no if it's a
"commercially available product that the club sells"
ie coke, soda, tonic, pop, whateveryoumaycallit...
yes to grilles, but they have to be in the designated
grilling area on the other side of the pavillion... they
(understandably) don't want lots of little fires in the field...

but we're glad to say he's back! and tonight we'll
be celebrating that fact at the Tammany Club in
	be-oooo-tiful downtown Worcester... free food,
free parking, free minds, free feet, free Mumia
	(sorry, got carried away :^)...

the last couple of weeks have been fun... i got
to keep busy by sitting in with the Bruce Mandaro
band a couple of times, and that's a gas as always...

the weekend brings us to a couple of private parties
and then we will be having some more vacations coming up,
but, there's stuff to look forward to! we were recently the
guests of the nice folks at the Lowell Brewing Company
who filled us with food and drink... they'll be taking advantage
of us later this summer and fall and we're very much looking
forward to it! and AUG 10TH!!! help us mark the occasion
of our pal Jerry's passing by coming out and doing something
nice... we're going to be putting on a benefit for the family of
my little friend Christina Richmond (Chriso's step daughter)
who passed away recently... the Shrewsbury Sportsman's Club

and in other news... for those of you who are looking forward (as it
were) to the anniversary of our dear friend Jerry's passing...
Slipknot is indeed doing an anniversary show in boston on the 9th
at (i think) the middle east... should be special... and Cross the
Water is putting on something special of our own the following night,
Saturday Aug 10th... it's a benefit party for the family of my little
friend Christina... now that she's gone the family is trying to dig
out of the hole that the treatment made in thier finances... it looks
like Worcester Magazine will be sponsoring the event... :^) :^) :^)
the lineup is looking like this:

    	Bruce Mandaro acoustic
    	Walter and Valerie Crockett (tentative)
    	Paul Della Valle (and friends)
    	and Cross the Water!

from about 7 til they throw us out! the Shrewsbury Sportsman's Club has
donated the hall... we'd really like to get 200 folks in to raise
$1000 for the family.... so come on out and do something kind for one
family in memory of some other kind friends who aren't with us
anymore... celebrate the fact that they LIVED by and act of kindness
towards the ones who live on...

for those who don't know, Walter Crockett and Paul Della Valle are both
columnists at Worcester Magazine... Paul is a folkie who hosts the
plantation clubs open mic night, and Walter and his wife Valerie have
been part of the music scene in worcester for many years in various
bands like Crockett and Zonkaraz... fine musicians all (and fine
people too!) Walter and Valerie also are facing a similar situation
with thier little girl and the two young ones were friends from the
    treatment center...

so August 10th... Rte 140 Shrewsbury... from 7 til they throw us out!
show that you too, still believe in Chemo Girl!!!

talking with Worcester Magazine and Chriso last night a question came

what exactly do we call this event??? if thye're going to do press on

no one really liked any one them... when her dance group did a benefit
recital it was "dancing for Christina"... what do we call this?

some ideas so far: a special kind of party, chemo girl flies again,
remembering an angel, party for an angel...

we're not especially thrilled with any of these, but the suggestion was
made to throw it open to you clowns... :^)

hi all...

back from 2 weeks of vacation... and here's the news... :^)

this weeks Worcester Magazine should have the press stuff
for "Rockin' for Christina: A Celebration of Life"...
they have said they'd do a 1/4 page ad and Charlene Arsenault
will be writing about it in her entertainment column...

Bruce Mandaro will be the opener, doing some acoustic songs solo
and then joined by some of the other musicians (and maybe some
other special guests)... Bruce will be going on between 7 and 7:30
and he will be hanging out later to jam with others throughout the evening...

Paul Della Valle, a columnist for Worcester Magazine and local
singer/songwriter will be next on the bill, doing a number of his orginal
tunes and we can expect a similar format to Bruce's set with a few
jams thrown infor fun...

Cross the Water will then come on stage and do what we do until
they throw us all out! :^) and yes, we will probably have a few
guests sit in with us as well!

so THIS SATURDAY at the SHREWSBURY FISH AND GAME
on RT 140 in Shrewsbury Massachusetts... from 7 til close...

we had a few people ask about the timing for this event, and yes,
it is no accident that it's on anniversary weekend of Jerry's passing...
we figure it is a kind way of marking the anniversary... also we want to
make it a celebration of the fact that these people LIVED, not a mournful
rememberance that they died... we had fun last week playing on Jer's
birthday... hope to have even MORE fun this weekend!!!

so if you're looking for some fun this weekend and want to do something
nice for some folks who could really use it, bring yourself and your thirst
(and a $5 donation to the Christina T. Richmond Fund) down the the club!

ooops... i forgot to answer your Mumia question...
he's a black dude sitting in a prison in (i think) Pennsylvania...
i forget what the actual charges are, but he is widely considered
to be held for his political views...

and now to the business at hand... :^) the Cross the Water schedule...

this week we're back at the Tammany Club... yep, that's two thursdays
in a row... the regular rotation with us and the BMB has been disrupted
due to conflicts in both bands schedules... after tomorrow we may not
be back there til the 26th...

also on Tuesday next week, we are the feature act at the Plantation Club's
open mike night... admission is free, lot's of beer taps... :^)

and saturday the 14th Greendale's Pub on West Boylston St restarts it's
band schedule... CtW will be there, with a special guest drummer, mr Jack
Howard, of recent Slipknot fame... :^)

last night we were the featured act at the plantation club's
open mic night... i was cool, it was fun, but cooler still was
	the press... :^)

Debbie Daigle (sp?) from channel 3 news (she's the arts and
entertainment person) came down to do a brief spot on us!!!
unfortunately, she didn't have a camera person with her since
she lost her argument with the news director (the news director
sent all the camera crews to the centrum to cover a Gloria
Estefan concert, even though Gloria's people would only allow
them to film 30 second snippets and no complete tunes)...

so Deb did the camera work herself, which made the interviews
kind of challenging... :^) i don't know if she made it back to the
studio in time for the 10 oclock news, but if not, it may be on
	again tonight... :^)

it was an educational evening for me... i didn't know that:
	- we were the "best band in town"
	- we were "the act that people are talking about all over the city"
	- we are "making a lot of people stop and take notice"
	- we are "rising stars on the local music scene"
(comments from Paul Della Valle, Karen Hart and Debbie)

cool... :^) course, i probably looked like hell on camera... (maybe that's
cool too? :^)... the interviews were filmed after we played, upstairs in the
band room... hot, sweaty, hair all over the place... those of you who have
camped out with me know the look... :^)

while i'm not 100% certain, i beliee it is part of an old custom
where people have "name days"... like everyone with a particular name

>just WHAT is the Latvian "Guntis Day" ?

	I don't know if I really understand it - but I guess it's sorta
kinda like the same idea of the Saint's days celebrated by some
religion. I think other nationalities do this too. In Latvia,
every day of the year is a Name's Day of a particular name(s).
There are usually about 4 names on each day, variations on the same
	name usually, male and female.

March 16 is Guntis Day. All the Guntis' in the world celebrate
their Name's Day on the same day. It's like a birthday (cause
there's giftgiving and celebrating involved) - only it has to do
with your name, not the day you were born.

Just another reason for a party, as far as I can tell...

(if I remember) I bet there is one.

the only other one I know off the top of my hat is John's Day
(Janis Dien), which is on the summer solstice. In Latvia,
on that day, the sun sets and then immediately rises again
(or so I've been told) - great cause for celebration - people
of all ages stay up all night long partying. Even though
the sun -does- set here, they've kept the tradition going!

well, i just got an interesting phone call... i hesitate to
put much in here because i have almost no details or actual
facts, but it appears that the Worcester Phoenix called one
of my band mates last evening regarding a "nomination" of some
sort... unfortunately, it was just a message left on an
answering machine, so i don't really know what it's about,
but, the possibility of something cool is on the horizon
    i think... :^)

Cool.

If it comes to it, though, and you find yourself
making public declarations of gratitude, just be
careful in your enthusiasm about how you pronounce
"DECheads", will ya? ;-)

88.147CtW this weekend, and more on the Phoenix nom...ALFA2::DWESTi believe in chemo girl!Fri Mar 21 1997 14:3933

well, here's the weekend schedule, and what little more i've learned
    about the phoenix thing...

    first, the weekend...

tonight, it's The Grille on Solomon Pond Road in Northboro...
nice place to go for dinner beforehand if you're into that
    		sort of thing...

saturday, Green Acres Tavern in Ashland on rte 135...
    		it's a beautiful day in Adam's neighborhood.... :^)

sunday, the Plantation Club on plantation st in worcester...
this one didn't get on the last mailer and is the result
of a major league scheduling screwup resulting from
Bruce Mandaro and Slipknot playing live on WERS earlier
this month... 18+... lots o' microbrews...

about the Phoenix... every year they have a "best of worcester"
poll... nominations are made by area club owners/managers and the
local entertainment writers... this year we have been nominated in the
"best local hippie groove/rock band" category... :^) :^) :^) believe
me, we were as surprised as anyone else!!! i don't know who the other
nominees are in this category, but as they say in the award shows,
"being nominated is an honor by itself!" (ok, so it sounds like a load
of crap on the award shows but we're still pleased... :^) i guess in
teh next few weeks ballots will be printed in the Phoenix, so we
encourage you to get one and vote for the band/artists of your choice
in any category you like... and if your vote can be pruchased very
    cheaply, call me... ;^)

sure, post with impunity... newsgroups, notesfiles, bathroom wall...
    anywhere your little heart desires...

as for the picture, it had potential... needs more input from Mr
Edison... :-) one band member was left out though... she's in the
picture but not mentioned above... it's supposed to be fixed soon
though... need to get her an email address... :-) Trixie would

Not having seen CtW too many times... but whats this song "1-2-3" ?
Izzat the (sole) lyric, being the start-of-song count-off? :-)

it's a childrens song to teach counting... yeah, that's the ticket...

actually, think country joe mcdonald but with drug references and not
vietnam war references... the counting is a chorus thing...

well, Paul, who runs the place insists it's not going to rain and we
can set up outside... :^) i don't if Paul has a fix in weith the
weather dude or what though... right now it's looking kinda gloomy...
on the other hand, i've been told that these are supposed to be
"passing showers" and that the rainy weather is supposed to pass south
of us... at this point, i am in "wait and see" mode... i'd like to be
outside, bt not if it means standing in a puddle next to a lot of
    electrical equipment! :^)
