From the net - sounds nice!!

As reported here recently, David Murray has recorded an album of Dead
tunes with his Octet to be released shortly. David has been working on
the songs lately, and premiered three Dead tunes this past Monday night
with his Big Band at the Knitting Factory in New York City. The crowd was
treated to versions of One More Saturday Night, China Doll and a thirty
minute Dark Star. The Big Band plays every Monday night, with sets at
8:00 and 10:00. This coming Monday, February 19, the band will again
feature David's arrangements of Grateful Dead songs. The concert will
also be a celebration of the first anniversary of the Big Band's run at the
Knitting Factory, as well as a birthday party for David Murray, so many
guests from the jazz world are expected to attend and play with the band.
It will also be David's last performance with the band for a while, as
he is heading to the Bay Area to work with Bobby and Taj Mahal on the
Satchel Paige project, and, perhaps, to jam with Ratdog at Mardi Gras.
Tickets are available at the Knitting Factory and are $12.00 in advance
or $14.00 the night of the show.

really?? I saw him maybe 10 years ago, opened for Feat. Other than
being to loud to the point of distortion (I *DO* like loud, but gotta
be able to distinguish) i thought he was OK. I was thinkin that with the
new material from his newest CD, he'd be a little better.

For those who missed Kodo drummers, World Music presents:
		ONDEKOZA, Demon Drummers From Japan.
Saturday, May 4, 8pm, Sanders Theatre

This group was founded in 1970, on Japan's Sadu Island. In the
mid 80's, the original members split nto two groups, one was Kodo
and the other became Ondekoza, which is still under the direction
        of the founder, Tagayasu Den.

In Japanese, Ondekoza means "demon Drummers" and in ancient times
the ancestors would summon spirits or demons by pounding drums.
This modern show combines the ancient rhythms with woodwind
flutes, cymbals, chants and precise dance derived from martial
        arts.

Tickets are $22 and $18 and are available at TicketShafter or by
calling World Music at (617) 876-4275 or Sanders Theatre at (617)
	496-2222. (Sanders charges $2.75/ticket + $1/order to mail them.)

Radio station KCFA-FM (??not sure of exact call letters, may have an "S" in
there) (San Fransicso) is broadcasting live the Thursday Quadrophrenia show
from Madison Sq. Garden. This sorta implies a nation-wide broadcast.
Anyone know anything? Is it gonna be broadcast in Boston area?
I'm posting this in the wrong note, take replies to the othermusic-discussion
note.

Yes, I heard that the show is being broadcast. The HBO Prince's Trust last
week was also broadcast. I haven't gotten around to the WHo's set yet, but
I suppose the MSG show will have more Who music than the Prince's Trust
show did.

I suspect wither WZLX or WGIR will have it.

tickets for this show are $8 at the door

you can reserve tickets for $11 through ticketbasterd,
after the "convenience fee" and order charge ...
ticketbasterd can be reached at 617-931-2000

so exactly who is this "fee" "convenient" for, anyways ?

well, it's worth it to reserve them, if you plan to check
out a very cool show, rather than drive to bean-town only
to find that the show has sold out - it will sell out on the
night of the show

if you can't make this one, they'll be playing an anniversary
gig about a month from now ... i'm pretty sure dates were
posted here, i'm pretty sure they'll be posted again ...

Dave and I are hooking up with some friends for a pre-rage
at Dave's, and maybe head down to a local watering hole to
the Paradise, if you're planning on going to this show,
contact Dave or me and we can all hook up - later on !

Well, sort of... Foxtrot, Tango, Uniform and Zulu are all militarese
for the letters of the alphabet. I'm not sure what "F. Z." stands for
    - are they a Zappa cover band? ;-)

Tango Uniform is actually an abbreviation for a military slang that
isn't repeatable in a family conference...but means something like
    dead...

Ladysmith Black Mambazo is playing Sanders Theater on
    May9, 1997 at 8pm tix$27 & $22.

If you have never seen them, this is a must see! Sanders is
a wonderful hall to catch a group like this (but the seats are
a little hard on tall people)...

    I unreservedly recommend this show!

	New England folks,

Thought you might be interested in the line-up for the Winter
Island (Salem, Mass) blues fest. There is at least one local
teenage band scheduled to open, but I don't have the names in
front of me. I'm scheduled to emcee on Sunday. Holly Harris
is scheduled to emcee on Saturday. They have shuttles running
from the train station in Salem if you don't want to drive.
Tickets are available at Strawberries or call the festival
hotline (the promoter's own phone -- can you believe it? The
festival must be a labor of love for him.) 617 639-4040
Tickets are $12 each day in advance and $15 at the gate. A
two-day pass is $22. The site is very nice, on the water.

	Saturday, May 24, starting at 11:00 a.m.

in addition to Bruce's comments, She's Busy just won the Worcester
Phoenix Best Folks Act award in the readers poll, and Lisa and Selena
are two of the three backing vocalists for Wilbur and the Dukes...
don't let the folk act category fool you... "the dames" kick some
serious butt... they got nominated as "folk" primarily because they
are an acoustic show that doesn't always play with a drummer...
    go figure...

oh, and for those of you that remember my stories of my little friend
Christina (Chemo Girl) who passed away last year from cancer, the
Why Me? Inc folks were very kind to her and her family as they went
through all this, and continue to be to this day... a very fine
organization offering local aid to local families... deserving of
    support...

funny U should mention Christina da ve, Patty's psychic-chick has told
her more than once that she is watched over by an angel, so she's been
doing some reading about the power of angels, summining angels for help,
etc....last week that brought the subject of Christina and the Angel back
    up in our conversation...

Christina has been coming up a lot lately in my little circle
of folks... we're approaching the 1st anniversary of her
    leaving...

her family is still being torn to shreds by this disease... :^(
they could use a little more evidence of angels these days...

fwiw, i still believe it... i hope they do too... i'm glad Patty's
is still keeping a watchful eye... we can all use a little of that
    from time to time...
