                               Earth~Dance

Benefit for the NATIONAL LEIGH'S DISEASE FOUNDATION

                           Saturday, April 30th
                        at the Newburyport DAV hall
                            Newburyport, Mass
                               7:00->12:00...

For all who have been so eagerly and patiently awaiting for a
chance to see Earth~Dance, do not fret! The time is coming... and it's
for a good cause. All proceeds will go to the National Leighs' Disease
Foundation in Corinth, Mississippi. Tix will be $5 at the door.

What IS Leigh's Disease? A degenerative disease of the central
nervous system. It is a very rare disease that effects young children
usually before the age of two, and death in afflicted children is usually
before ten years. It's major symptoms are poor growth, lack of muscle
control, visual problems, and difficulties in breathing and swallowing.
(more info in following reply).

This project is especially dear to the band because our keyboard
player's daughter, Rachel, has Leigh's. She's the poster child. It's
been very difficult for Ben and his family because so little is known
about the disease. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Earth~Dance is an improvisational rock/jam band. We are heavily
influenced by the Grateful Dead style (that damn hippy band). :-)
We do it 4-piece; Guitar, Keys, Bass, and Drums. And we'll do it
long... 3 sets of music for your dancing and listening pleasure...

Direx will be posted before the gig. (when I get them) :-)

Thanks for your time.

Steve-O

		National Leigh's Disease Foundation (NLDF)
		-----------------------------------

Founded October 3, 1988, to promote medical research into the cause
and treatment of Leigh's Disease. Tax exemption as a non-profit
organization was granted by the IRS on October 31, 1989.

LEIGH'S DISEASE - A degenerative disease of the central nervous
system that usually begins before age two years and leads to death
in most afflicted children before the age of ten years. The major
effects of the disease are poor growth, loss of muscular control,
visual problems, and difficulties with swallowing and breathing. It
is probably caused in most cases by an inherited defective gene or
genes. The abnormal gene causes a disturbance of energy metabolism
in the central nervous system, leading to the deterioration and
death of brain cells. No effective treatment is known. Leigh's
Disease is very rare. There are so few medical publications dealing
with Leigh's Disease that many physicians have never heard of the
disease. Because Leigh's Disease is difficult to diagnose, however,
there may be many affected children who die without the correct
	diagnosis being recognized.

MEDICAL RESEARCH - There is some limited research being done by Dr.
Peter Stacpoole and Dr. Richard Haas. Their research, however, is
limited primarily because of lack of funds. Their efforts and the
efforts of other researchers who attempt to study this devastating
disease often cannot find funding for research. Instead, private
and public funding often go to better known disease such as cancer,
	heart disease, and presently AIDS.

NLDF organizers realized that research being done for children dying
of Leigh's Disease was limited. As a result, the NLDF was founded
to bring financial support to those scientists who are already
studying Leigh's Disease and to encourage other physicians and
researchers to take a serious look at Leigh's Disease.

NLDF also provides non-financial support to families with Leigh's
Disease victims; fosters a network of communication among affected
families; and stands as an association of patients, families and
friends in a war against Leigh's Disease. NLDF currently communicates
with families all across the U.S. and in foreign countries.

EarthdancE BENEFIT show for National Leigh's Disease Foundation

    Saturday, August 20th
    8:00 -> 12:30
    DAV hall, Newburyport MA

This is our second benefit show towards this foundation. ALL proceeds
and donations go directly to NLDF. (more info, see note 401.1)
The folks at the DAV have asked us back and donated the hall. I guess
we didn't piss 'em off too bad back in April. :-)

    The donation is $5-
All ages welcomed, ID to drink.

We've a new additon to the band in a second guitar player. His name
is Mike, and he's added some tasty fullness to our sound. If you're
still wondering what's up with these EarthdudeS, here's a cheap chance
to check (note my cunning use of `alliteration') out the band, and it's
    for a VERY good cause...

    Direx to follow.

    Thanks!
