Mara - Runrig

Sad to say, Runrig's best effort was The Cutter and the Clan, and that was
about six years ago. Their latest release (which just scrapes in 1995) can
only be described as overblown pretentious twaddle. The Cutter... was a
brilliant album, Mara just waddles in like a stodgy, extremely soggy bread-
pudding. It's a sort of maudlin Big Country crossed with late 80's Mike
Oldfield, with just a dash of Genesis/ELP pomp thrown in for good measure.

Charlie Drake lookalike Hucknall, spews out another over produced pile
of arse. Having listened to this album once properly and several
hundred times by proxy (thanks to flat owner upstairs with car keys in
the middle of the room lifestyle, certainly makes the party go with a
'swing' ;^)), I can't see how people are prepared to part money for
this. 'Fairground' is nasty, but at least it's a bit different (thanks
not to Hucknall, but to sampling dance 'floor filler' Goodmen tune.)

It's got to be anything by Robson & Jerome, or the stuff I heard recently
by the Coronation Street cast - especially a monotone effort by Mike and Alma
Baldwin.

Oh, was that the thing they sang on the Coronation Street 35th party
on ITV last night, some old song I can't remember the name of but
goes "and then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like
I love you"? Dreadful is not the word!
