1329.0. "Glastonbury Festival 1996" by WOTVAX::STONEG (Temperature Drop in Downtime Winterland....) Wed Oct 25 1995 18:51

    Glastonbury 1996 has been confirmed for 28-30th June. This confirmation
    seems much earlier than usual, which might mean something important but
    then again perhaps not !

    So, who's going, who's playing, how much are tickets and when are they
    on sale ? The answers to all of these questions and more will appear in
    here over the coming months...

    No bands have been announced as yet. I think that they were trying to
    re-assure people that the event would take place.

    I thought the report said that it wasn't certain that ME wanted to do it
    next year?

1329.5HEadline band rumour thingVYGER::BONINIMSun Nov 12 1995 14:009
    Latest rumour on Glasto next year is that headline band is to that
    unknown beat combo from the sixties "The Beatles"

    WHOOOOOOPPPPEEEE !

    ...nad no doubt they'll be playing in the Acoustic tent (like
    Portishead) to ensure as few of the paying punters as possible get to
    see them !

    That would be great ... at least you wouldn't be able to hear them all
    round the festival like the Bootleg version this year.

    ps. I was about 10 rows from the front at Portishead and I still
    couldn't see them.

    >> ps. I was about 10 rows from the front at Portishead and I still
    >> couldn't see them.

    	I was a few fields away watching Banco de Gaia (sp?), absolutely
    brilliant !

    I've also heard a rumour that Ray Charles has been signed for
    Glastonbury 1996 and that Michael Eavis may not announce _any_ of the
    other acts until a couple of weeks before the event (after all of the
    tix have been sold). I think this is a great idea, because if he does
    get a couple of major bands signed up it's likely to attract a lot of
    fans who wouldn't go to Glastonbury otherwise. When this happened with
    The Cure there was a notable change to the atmosphere that year, the
    band and the fans were fun to watch tho' %^)

1329.9CHEFS::FIDDLER_MThe sense of being dulls my mindWed Nov 15 1995 12:566
    If he doesn't announce who is playing, how will I know which bands I
    will miss seeing because I'm stuck in a crowd elsewhere?

1329.10WOTVAX::STONEGTemperature Drop in Downtime Winterland....Wed Nov 15 1995 14:486

    ....they'll be announced before the festival - and they'll be in the
    program of course ! It's just to stop 150,000 Take That fans snaffling
    up all the tix when the headliners are announced %^/

    Why on earth would a good clean living Take That fan go to Glastonbury,
    surely not to see Robbie Who???

    Andrea ;)
1329.12suppose it will have to be Pheonix this year !!!VYGER::BONINIMThu Jan 04 1996 18:437

    Glastonbury has been cancelled this year. Michael Eavis wants to let
    his grass (???) grow and rethink security following the mass break in
    last year. He says it will be back better than ever in '97.

1329.13WOTVAX::STONEGTemperature Drop in Downtime Winterland....Fri Jan 05 1996 16:489

    yeah, should have a put a reply in I suppose, as I started this note.
    On the positive side, I have heard a rumour that Treworgy may be on
    this year; It's certainly worth a visit if it is.

    I will probably go to Phoenix anyway, as it will be a chance to see a
    few 'big name' acts, but it's a poor substitue for Glastonbury...

    G.
1329.14CHEFS::STRATFORDSGroovy, Laidback and NastyFri Jan 05 1996 17:053
    As an aside, apparently when the 1997 festival is announced Michael
    Eavis is only going to announce the dates and not the bands. He
    believes the event will sell itself.
1329.15WOTVAX::STONEGTemperature Drop in Downtime Winterland....Fri Jan 05 1996 17:216

    quite right! as a 'seasoned' festival goer there's nowt worse than
    the hordes of fans who are there to see their favourite band and then
    ignore or knock everything else that's going on.

1329.16it had to happen .....WOTVAX::STONEGTemperature Drop in Downtime Winterland....Mon Jun 03 1996 15:0819

    .....check out 'Virtual Glastonbury'  @

         http://www.obsolete.com/v-glastonbury/

    	it appears to be in the spirit og the real event, raising money for
    charity and taking place over the w/e of the Summer Solstice.

    There's not much there yet but looks as though it should build up into
    something interesting, there are opprtunities to set up virtual stalls
    and even appear at the festival.

    hmm, a virtual Rizzla stall, that should make a few bob %^) I can
    just imagine the virtual security chasing virtual dealers through the
    virtual fields of virtual tents.
