731.0. "AHA2944W LOGISTICS PART" by BARNA::DSMAIL () Mon Apr 07 1997 15:19

I'm triying to order the AHA2944W part number to logistics.
I've found AHA2940W part but i think it doesn't solve my problem
becouse this board is at the shared bus of a prioris nt cluster, and
only aha2944W is supported???? ( installation guide page 1-10 )

Coul any one tell me something about the digital or adaptec
part number, or other boards supported in prioris nt cluster.

                                  THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi Joaquin,

1. The 2944W is not orderable as a seperate part from the PCBU but is I
believe orderable from SBU, if you ask one of the SBU guys the SBU part ref
this may help you get the logistics num.

2. For a proper cluster HW config you do really need the 2944W (differential
SCSI giving 25Meters) + the cables, the Y cables and terminators if however
your just sticking a couple of boxes together and want to play with
cluster.........

3. you can get by with 2940W, the problem is the SCSI cable length which
for the 2940W is 3Meters from terminator to terminator.....if you have more
than 3 meters you can drop the bus frequency down to 5MHz which will give you
6meters.

There is an added problem with using 2940W, this being that depending upon the
BIOS rev it probably WON'T have the option to disable "SCSI bus initialization
on reset".......however if you don't turn off the servers !!. should be OK.

All the above in point 3 is NOT valid for a customer installation there are
kits avaliable.

Cheers John
