477.0. "Where do you go if.....?" by DPDMAI::DAWSON (the lower I go, the higher I become) Thu Jun 25 1992 19:00

In times of turmoil and hard times, people begin to need
God in their lives. So.....Where do you seek Gods face?

   Dave,

I don't generally think of a place, but rather a state to be in.

In the eyes of a baby, sapling of the wood, clouds, the wind,
in the comfort of my own sprit.

   Why any one place?

   Peace,
   Allison

    Allison,

Some people have a place and some don't. I do! :-)
But it depends what works for you.

I don't have a place. I use a state of prayer. Intense concentration
of just talking to and being in the presence of God.

I don't have a place, rather I meditate and try to open my heart, mind
and soul to the divine spirit and revel in the peace and joy that I
    find there.

In times of turmoil I've been known to head to the refrigerator.
In times of trouble I've been known to turn to a friend.
But more often than these, I've turned to the Comforter, the Healing
Presence, and the One Whom at least one rabbi I've read calls: The Place.

    Peace,
    Richard

I like Richard's answer and have been known to do all three. ;')

One source of 'peace' for me is being with friends and loved ones.
Looking in their eyes and seeing the 'Light' within, makes me feel
    close to God.

Often in times of turmoil, I'll turn to one of my favorite spiritual
books (Heart Thoughts by Louise Hay or ACIM for example) and ask the
Holy Spirit to allow me to open to a page that will comfort and provide
    guidance for me. Never fails!

There are many places that I retreat to in order to better communicate
(pray, meditate, contemplate) with God. The most powerful are natural
settings. Sitting on the rocks at Pemiquid Point (Maine), for example,
to watch the surf pound against the shore as it has since creation
reminds me of the power and majesty of the Creator. If I can't make
the three hour trip to Pemiquid, getting to the Marginal Way in
Ogunquit (also Maine!) will also fit the bill.

Mountains are another place of peace for me, especially the Berkshires
(western Massachusetts) since that is also where my grandparents lived
and has always meant "coming home" to me.

Of course, I've done some of my "best" praying in the stall of the
women's room in the midst of a stressful workday... :-)
