2829.0. "Where can I find Midifiles?" by GVA05::BERGMANS () Tue Jan 21 1992 12:00

    Is there a note on MIDIFILES.

    I did dir/title=midifile and to my surprise I got nothing.

    I am interested in public or shareware files. Anyone has found, used
    them, what is the quality?

    Thanks

I have a lot of MIDI files, mostly downloaded from CompuServe. As you would
expect, they vary widely in quality. The good ones, though, are very good.
For example, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue... a very long, well-sequenced
piece.

You generally have to play around with the instrumentation and there is
rarely a good drum track on modern stuff.

Give me an address and an idea of what you want and I'll mail you a disk or
three.

    Say, Gavin, old buddy...how come you haven't uploaded your findings to
    your COMMUSIC bros???? The MIDILIB can always use some new stuff...

Neither is my PC, but that doesn't stop me from dialing up & "kermit-ing" files
up & down from all over the Easynet (and beyond...) ;^)

Do you mean that you don't have a modem & comms software on your Mac?

If yours isn't on the net maybe a friend's is :-) We do this all the time
because we have comms stuff for the Atari but not for the Spectre MAC
emulator. We just use a public MAC here at work, transfer the stuff to
floppy and then load it at home.

Re: .5

I have a modem at home (how else would I access CompuServe?) but, for
security reasons, there are none available at *this* end. To access one
elsewhere I would need an account there and auto-dialback. Try justifying
that on the grounds of MIDILIB...  :-}

In other words, there is no possibility of an electronic connection twixt my
Mac and the Digital network.

Couldn't you just make a copy and *send* it to
someone who does have a connection?

It might cost some to mail it, but I'm sure it
wouldn't be much.

Just my 2c worth

Funny how some sites have no modems for security reasons
and others have millions of them.

Chad
here we have Betriebsrat ("worker's council" literally,
a pseudo by law union) problems, restricted modem access
so that we can be forced to work from home!!!!

This is being done, or at least organised. However, I'm in France and the
offer came from ZK, so it ain't for tomorrow! :-)

I won't use internal mail but don't mind coughing for airmail to help spread
the goodies around.

Of course, there's no-one else in here who's on CompuServe I suppose...? :-}

2829.11Lots of files are hereKOBAL::DICKSONThu Feb 06 1992 13:2113
    The files have now arrived from France and I've got them, ready to
    upload from my ethernet-connected Mac. Four MEGABYTES of MIDI files.
    Over 200 files.   Zowee.

    I tried out a few, and there is some really good stuff in here.
    Like the overture to Tannhaueser. Pictures at an Exhibition. Lots
    of pop stuff. Lots of classical. All of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.

    Some better than others. Some over 120KB in length, like Rhapsody
    in Blue. Some of obvious names, and others have MSDOS-like names.

    Some also have copyright notices in them, from "TMI", all rights
    reserved. I haven't figured out what to do with those yet.
