1371.0. "Atari Works for the ST(E)?" by UKARC1::CHAMBERLIN (Ian Chamberlin) Mon Jul 05 1993 16:02

I phoned Hi Soft to see if they had availability date
on Atari Works for the ST(E). They said they didn't
know when it would be available.

So then I thought I'd go straight to the top... and
tried Atari UK. The first response was what? Atari Works
- who makes it? After further investigation, they decided
the ST version was being developed by Hi Soft......!!

Does anyone know anything more, or does this look like
another long wait?

cheers,
	Ian.

According to what I've seeing on the Internet Atari Works will be sold
to anyone who wants to buy it for about $120 (US). It does require at
least 1Mb of memory. It is being advertised for sale now although the
last I heard the final documentation was not quite ready. (They were
sending photocopied docs with the software!) :-(

So it should be available real soon if it isn't already. I'll keep my
eyes open for more info.

1371.2Will it ever come?UKARC1::CHAMBERLINIan ChamberlinMon Jul 19 1993 15:508
Hi Soft tell me they havn't decided yet whether to produce Atari works yet -
might know in about 2 weeks.

Whilst I'm waiting, has anyone used the Falcon version yet? Is it worth
waiting for the ST version, or should I go and buy something else?

cheers,
	Ian.
1371.3Virus Warning For AtariWorksTECRUS::ROSTGraduate of More Science H.S.Wed Jul 28 1993 12:5433
    From the Internet:

From: molin@cxc1.cl.msu.edu (Michael Olin)
Subject: AtariWorks ships w/ virus?
Date: 28 Jul 1993 00:50:41 -0400

Today I opened one of the AtariWorks packages that came into the store
to verify for a customer that it was indeed shipped on 720K disks and
that the install program worked on non-Falcon machines. (He's had
a bucket of problems trying to get the system installed on his
Mega 2 TOS 1.02 machine...) Since Atari originally shipped Works on
1.44Meg disks, and then the snafu with the dictionary, he was
rightfully concerned. Since the replacement disks came with SpeedoGDOS
as well, we looked at those disks too.

Surprise. George Woodside's VirusKiller monitor guard binged when we
looked at Speedo disk #3. Sure 'nuff, on closer investigation V-Kill
reported a known virus ('Key' or Signum virus....)

This prompted me to open every package we had gotten in, and the same
virus was reported on all four of them.

This is a warning to all persons who buy the 720K-disk version of Works.
CHECK THE DISKS WITH A REPUTABLE VIRUS KILLER BEFORE YOU CONTAMINATE
YOUR SYSTEM!
