GENLOCK is a term used to describe the configuration where the video
display generator get's it's sync signals from an external source. In
a television studio, all of the equipment must be in frame and scan
synchronization so that you can mix multiple input sources onto the
same display, and switch from one source to another with no visible
interruption as the TV receiver resynchronizes. GENLOCK capability is
required to allow an EXTERNAL sync generator to dictate to the
computer's display controller when the video sync events occur.
This can be difficult, because in a computer usually the sync is
synchronized to the computers master clock, so that memory accesses can
be performed at the most optimal times.
The STe series of Atari computers has latent support for inexpensive
GENLOCK capability, waiting for a third party to make such a thing. The
capability is discussed in the developer documentation for the STe,
which is now available to the general public (for a fee) as well as to
the registered developers.

Many tanks Jeff, I'm slowly getting to grips with all the weird and
wonderful gadgets available.
Just for your info. there is a company here in England that imports a
GENLOCK device from Germany (LABBBROKE COMPUTING), which costs about #250,
perhaps somebody in Germany can enlighten us.
Cheers
Nick
