748.0. "FLIGHT SIM II NOTESFILE??" by BELFST::MILLING (Paul Milling, SWAS Belfast) Wed Jan 24 1990 14:52

Are there any armchair pilots out there who would be interested
in establishing a notesfile to discuss the finer points of Sublogics
Flight Simulator II?? Maybe one already exists??

    Regards

    Biggles Milling!

PS I've also posted this note in the Amiga and GAMES notesfiles.

While this mainly talks about FLIGHT the VAXstation flight simulator,
there is often talk of other simulators.
748.2NOT A LOT ON QUEEN::FLIGHTBELFST::MILLINGPaul Milling, SWAS BelfastWed Jan 24 1990 16:015
    Thanks Stuart,

I have occasionally browsed through QUEEN::FLIGHT and found a few
notes on FSII. However, these do tend to get lost in the VAX Flight
    Sim topics.
748.3How about just simulators in general?TALK::HARRIMANThe nuke runs MAXCIMWed Jan 24 1990 17:0611

I "fly" many simulators on different pieces of hardware, among them
the Atari FSII, Microsoft/Sublogic Flight Simulator 4.0, Yeager,
Stealth, and Falcon, _and_ FLIGHT (I'm kind of into it ;^) )

QUEEN::FLIGHT concerns itself primarily with the Decwindows product.

I'd be interested in discussing any or all of the above.

I'd be interested in hearing other's experience with FSII. It is
the ONLY game type program that I have ever bought for my
business/engineering use system. I'd expecially like to keep track of
which scenery disks are available (is the one covering New England out
yet?). Has anyone ever bought the control panel with yoke, throttle,
etc that I saw years ago? - Chris

NE area isn't out yet, according to SubLogic. I bought a Maxx yoke
for my PC but I couldn't find one to fit my 1040ST. If anybody
understands the difference and could explain the pinouts I'd be
	grateful.

748.6Good IdeaBREW11::LUMMISBut Ive Got A Dark Gray Over-CoatMon Feb 12 1990 12:0021
I have been Flying FSII for 2.5 years , I have scenery disks 7 ,
11 and the Europe disk. I recently had a go on FSIII from Microsoft
and Sublogic , Very good additional funtionality . The Amiga version
of FSII has the most amasing sound effects yet.

How good are the flight controls for your IBM PC ?

Does anyone know or can find out when a new version of FSII for
the ST will be available ?

While flying around the UK a lot of major landmarks can be found
, if you know anyone who is a PPL holder they will have the old
Arial section maps that you can use to get around , how do I mean
get around , the way I fly around the scenery disk is by the use
of the VOR's or NDB's , and occasionaly by sight.

Have you tryed flying circuits in a 12kts cross wind with turb set
to 2 ? have a go with un-cordinated flight and using the rudder
    at the last moment.

looks to me like we're getting out of the scope of this conference.

Anybody actually puts together a conference, count me in.

p.s. .-1, the yoke is great, especially on a 25Mhz 386 with random
weather and traffic on. I really wish I had one for the
Atari. I also wish that FSII and V4.0 worked together, but
		  they don't appear to.

Would love to see a SUBLOGIC flight simulator notes file ....

Having understood the difference between Sublogic Flight Simulator and
Micorsoft's flight simulator (the same for different H/W) I'm now curious
whether the version I'm running on my ATARIST *is* the latest.

I pulled down the "About" menu item and it told me I was using V1.1.
I've seen Amiga users refer to 1.7 so I wonder....

Also, not all scenery disks seem to be avalailable for the AtariST but which
ones are ?

Finally, I got hold of a book (40 adventures for the flight simulator) with
some interesting ideas to practice. Some of them require setting the plane up
at a certain position (North/East/Altitude) which is possible but also requires
setting Throttle/Flaps/Aireleons at certain values which I could find no way
of doing. Any ideas ?

748.9Its Not EasyBREW11::LUMMISBut Ive Got A Dark Gray Over-CoatWed Feb 14 1990 10:2112
The book you mention is the second in the authors series , the first
is called the Flight Sim Companion , and again this book referances
cirtain settings , in slew mode you can set the attitude of the
aircraft in any position but this means you had to be flying that
way or at least flying when you entered slew mode.

Try positioning the control tower at the end of the runnway and
watch yourself taking off into it , or use cross winds and yaw in
for the landing , great stuff.

    Simon.

748.10Does anyone have a copy of FS II for sale?CRATE::HARRISPCH @ SBP on AQS in ADGWed Jun 20 1990 07:4617
Hi,

I've had a 520 STFM for some while now, but have only recently seen Flight
Simulator in the "flesh" (on a colour PC), and I'm hooked.

BUT, I can't get hold of it for the ST anywhere in the UK.

Is there anyone out there, preferably in the UK (or can get it to the UK
easily) , who would be prepared to sell me a copy of FS II (original only
please, with original manuals etc.)? I would like to get hold of the European
scenery disk(s) as well.

Mail to CHEST::HARRIS if you want to make my day 8^).

Thanks,

Paul (who must get FS II) Harris
748.11Try Tottenham Court RoadKADOR::HANNAMmmmm YesWed Jul 04 1990 10:0410
Paul,

I was in the UK (London) last week and came across TWO stores that were selling
FSII. Both are on Tottenham Court Road: The first is Virgin Megastore's computer
shop and the second is a computer software shop about 5 minutes furthur down
the road (I believe its called Computer Arcadia).

I was looking for FSII Scenery Disks and picked up one from there.
