705.0. "520 ST(E) shipping instead of 520STFM" by UKCSSE::KEANE () Wed Dec 13 1989 14:28

    Hi,

     AM I JEALOUS OR AM I JEALOUS.

    A COLLEAGUE IN THIS OFFICE HAS JUST ORDERED AND RECEIVED A 520STFM,
    WITH 20 GAMES (THE POWER PACK), FROM EVESHAM MICRO'S. 345 pound
    inclusive.

    HE HAD IT DELIVERED TO THE OFFICE, FOR SPEED, WHEN HE UNPACKED IT, HE
    SHOWED IT TO ME, AND SAID, "WHAT IS THIS ADDENDUM TO THE MANAUL THAT
    REFERENCES ST(E)."

    Your right, he only has a 520ST(E), NOT a 520 STFM. He has 15 pin
    joystick ports, dual sound output jacks labelled Left and right etc etc
    etc. There is a 520ST with a tiny little E on the badge!

    Boy am I sick!!

    Regards

    Pat Keane.

    Hello,
       I share your feelings. What a lucky guy!
    But what about the memory? 512KB or 1Meg?

    one thing I'm curious about the STe - since they changed the video
    hardware to support 4096 colors, does Spectrum 512 work on it?
    (I remember hearing that Spectrum was very timing critical, curious
    if having 4096 colors changes the timing).

    Any news of a Spectrum 4096?

    -Dave
    p.s. The Amiga market has finally started playing with interrupts
    per scan line, NewTek released something called "dynamic hi-res"
    which does 4096 colors in 640x200 overscan. Not much else happens
    on the system when it's displaying the picture. And not much info
    is available on how they did it (they sell a digitizer so I don't
    imagine they are in a big hurry to tell other digitizer makers how
    they did it). But reports on usenet make it sound like they too
    are very timing critical on the display.

705.4where do I look?UKCSSE::RDAVIESLive long and prosperFri Dec 29 1989 22:096
    I'm the lucky guy actually logged in via my STe right now!.

    How can I tell (short of undoing screws?) how much memory I've got??.

705.5use ram-diskPAULUS::HINTERLECHTue Jan 02 1990 11:088
    Try to install a RAM-disk with a bigger size 600-700K without having
    other bigger programms. If the disk is to be refused, you have a
    520STE.
    Happy new year,
