596.0. "Stacy + Spectre GCR => MAC Plus laptop" by TEMPE1::ROCHA_ED () Sun Sep 17 1989 15:13

    I'm a Macintosh owner looking for a MAC laptop. It appears that
    Apple's new MAC will be a portable and not a laptop plus the $6k+ unit
    cost is WAY to high.

    As an alternative, the latest (Oct '89, page 51) MacUser suggests the
    Atari + Spectre. They have a picture of Stacy and indicate that
    Gadgets by Small's Spectre GCR plus MAC Plus ROMs will yield and MAC
    Plus Laptop. I'd like to find out more about both products.

    Can someone please rely with the details for both Stacy and Spectre
    GCR.  By details I mean

    	pointers to magazine articles
    	technical attributes (memory, size, weight, speed, drives, battery
         		      info...you get the idea...)
    	availablity
    	costs
    	best discounters

    Keep in mind that I know nothing about Atari products...just MACs

    Thanks

    /ed

    Spectre uses the 128K ROMs, and not the 256K ROMs, which are used on
    the newer MACs.

596.3IT REALLLY WORKS (STACEY PLUS GCR)UKCSSE::KEANEMon Oct 02 1989 06:5614

    Hi,

    At the UK Personal Computer show, in London this weekend, the
    distributor for Spectre, had a STACEY, Lap top st fitted with a GCR
    plugged in to the cartridge port, running Aldolpus (sic) Pagemaker !!!!

    IT LOOKED GREAT..... The LCD display is a little slow to update, i.e.
    when you roll the tracker ball, the (mouse) pointer vanishes if you
    roll fast, but generally it worked well!!!!!!

    See my other note for ST presence at the show !
