    	Does anyone have diagnostic software for testing my ST's floppy
    drive and memory...? Thanks for any info.

    	PS - What's the latest on a new ST?

505.1floppy tester?UKCSSE::KEANEThu Jun 15 1989 09:3114
    hi Mike,

    I have a P.D. program thats a floppy disk tester. It formats reads and
    writes various test patterns on the disk, (shouldnt that be writes and
    reads), I dont know whether you would call it a floppy drive tester tho
    I have also a PD speed prog somewhere. I'll upload them tonite, if I
    remember, and put them in my public under floppytest.arc. I havnt got a
    memory tester though.

    Cheers

    Pat K.

    Ps. Ukcsse::disk$csse01:[keane.st.arc] is where it will be.
505.2memory test on the netLEDDEV::WALLACEThu Jun 15 1989 16:3510
    I hope Jeff doesn't mind me putting a pointer to his directory (he's
    put pointers to it many times :-).

    A memory test is located at:
    		PRNSYS::DUA1:[LOMICKAJ.HOBBY.ST]MEMTEST.DOC, .PRG

    I've seen/used two PD memory tests and this seemed to be the better
    of the two.

505.3PRNSYS is movingPRNSYS::LOMICKAJJeff LomickaThu Jun 15 1989 16:515
No, I don't mind, but PRNSYS will go down tonight, and when it
re-appears on Monday it will have a new node number in area 5.

You might want to get while the getting is good.

    re .1
    I am sorry, I have not been able to upload yet. When I tried to get on
    last night, our dial back security system told me I was fourth in the
    queue, and would dial me later,- but it didnt. Every time I looked I
    was still fourth in queue. There must have been a lot of people working
    late last night!. (In reality our cluster had chucked its lunch)
    Will try again ASAP the weekend.

    Hi Mike,

    Finally got around to uploading tonight. I have called the arc file
    FLOPTEST.ARC
    I am sorry for the delay!

505.7Info on using FLOPTEST/CHECKER programLEDDEV::WALLACESun Jun 25 1989 02:4518
    If anyone is planning on using the floppy disk CHECKER program from
    the FLOPTEST.ARC uploaded by Pat I have a bit of info on using it
    and a change you may want to make.

    The program (CHECKER.PRG) looks for the file CHECKER.DAT in the
    folder \CHECKER. Which means you MUST create a "top level" folder
    called \CHECKER and place CHECKER.DAT in it. Otherwise CHECKER will
    display a dialog box with some error message about PC>$00000000.

    A nicer alternative is to use a disk editor (I used DLII) and change
    the one occurrance of the string "\checker\checker.dat" to
    "checker.dat " (the string starts at cluster 11 decimal
    and byte 10C hex). I tried to change the byte count in front of
    the string but that caused another problem when the ran. Leaving
    the byte count alone and filling out the end of the string with
    spaces works fine.

    Ugh. I swear, one of these days I'm gonna hack this filesystem so that
    it supports "logical names"...

505.10I would like to give it a shot, tooUTRTSC::TEYEMARule#1: I'M RIGHT. Rule#2: Apply #1Mon Jul 10 1989 13:1113
Howdy y'all

I am having serious doubts about the reliability of my drive (1040-Internal)
and would like to run a test on it too.
I tried to copy UKCSSE::DISK$CSSE01:[KEANE.ST.ARC]FLOPTEST.ARC but got
a persistent "no go".
Can somebody give me a pointer to where this, or another drive-tester is
located ? Would appreciate it .

	Casper UTRTSC:: TEYEMA.

PS: Does this CHECKER program in FLOPTEST.ARC also check disk-speed ?

505.11As I recallOLDTMR::WALLACEMon Jul 10 1989 15:027
    FLOPTEST does test the drive speed but only believe the first number
    that pops up on the screen. That is to say it repeatedly checks the
    drive speed re-displaying the speed each time through it's loop. The
    problem is only the first time through the loop results in a correct
    RPM for the drive.
