418.0. "Troubles with SH205" by VNABRW::EGERT () Wed Mar 08 1989 13:17

    HELP with SH205

    Hello Guy's, i still have troubles with replacing the rd31 (witch
    comes in the SH205 assembly) by an rd32. I have tryed something
    with the WINCAP file on the Boot-Disk but it doesn't help to format
    the disk. Everytime i've tryed to format the disk, it seems to do
    somthing with the disk for about 1 or 2 seconds and then finished.
    After that i looked at partitions and saw partition 1 with 93,4MB,
    partition 2 and 3 unused and partition 4 with 37,2MB.

    What have i done wrong,or what special driver is needed to fix this
    problem.     H E L P - P L E A S E !

    				Thanks in advance  Chris

    I assume we're talking about Winchester disk drives, here...

    Have you tried Supra's hard disk software? It's *much* better than
    Atari's...

418.2Partitions are too big.LDP::WEAVERLaboratory Data Products/ScienceWed Mar 08 1989 20:435
    I don't think you can have partitions greater than 16MB (although
    this supposedly goes up to 32MB with the new TOS - rumor). Try
    reducing the size of the partitions and see if that works.

418.3I'll try Supras SWVNABRW::EGERTThu Mar 09 1989 07:097
    Thanks for the replies.
    I will try out the Supra-Software and see what happens

    -.2 The Partitions are 10-10-10-10 by default so it doesn't have
    an effect when you change the partitions because the problem still
    exists at the format section. If the drive isn't formatted no
    partitioning is possible. The values are random numbers i think.

        Hello Chris,
six month ago i have the same problems with a Micropolis (RD 53 Digital)
drive , i think you have problems with the windcap file , first the drive
will be formatted and the partition will be done. Behind my text is a
windcap file , it works with the atari harddisk software revision 2.0 .

    Hi Joerg,

    did you just replace your existing HD-Drive with the RD53 or did
    you add the RD53 to your ATARI-HD-Drive?

    I have a SH204 and a RD53, which I would like to connect/add to
    the SH204.

    Could I use your WINCAP file in a modified way? Did you read a series
    of articles in the 'ST-Computer' magazin (1/2/3/5/6/1988), titel: "Die
    Festplatte"?. Especially in 6/88: "Umruestung der ATARI Festplatte auf
    40 MB"? Don't know how much I can use this in my case...

    Regards. / Hilmar.
