1741.0. "Soldando Amplification" by CIMAMT::KELLY (Feelin' a little edgy) Fri Mar 23 1990 13:03

The last time I saw Eric Clapton live, both he and Mark Knopfler were playing
through Soldano (sp?) amps. Does anyone have info on these amps?

John Kelly

Joe Perry and Steve Lukather are also big Soldano fans. They are
like a cross between a Boogie and a Marshall, leaning more towards
the Marshall sound. They're big bucks (like the Rivera amp), but
if you're a "serious" player, you won't mind the investment.

Are part of the Signature Series Freebee in GFTPM this month.
The copy in the ad says

"The only amps that REALLY DO go up to 11!"

So I made sure to send in my post card.

BTW - the same rack package also included an H+K Metal Shredder
	preamp and an Eventide Harmonizer.

Yeah, I saw that Aerosmith was using on Soldano, one Jackson(!) and
three Marshalls. (I heard that those Jackson amps were really lame)

Anyhow, I wonder how those Soldanos sound...

You forgot the Bedrock amp Joe has in his amp rack. Not heard the
Jacksons...they must be ok, but I think they're butt ugly! (yeah,
    way worse than the M-1000)

No way, nothing on the market is as ugly as the Metaltronix head and
    cabs!

I remember reading something on Soldano preamps a few years
ago. I think Steve Lukather used one.Handmade like Dumbles,
but priced lower (but not much). A Soldano SLO-100 head like
the one shown in GTFPM (yeah snakeskin) lists for $1860.
It's SUGLY (sorta ugly), not FUGLY like the M1000. But it does
look functional! I like the ventilation scheme and the fact
that the tubes are seated right side up, take that hint
ROY Electric. (Did BoOm really do a KH slam?).
I think my KH M1 will keep up with most all of these high
priced tube amps in term of sound, I just would've made some
changes that would improve overall quality and reliability.
Keep in mind I'm saying this and mine are working!

Eric Clapton was using a Soldano on his Saturday Night Live appearance
this weekend. Btw, anyone catch the tweed Twin he was using on one of
the break tunes (Born Under a Bad Sign) with GE and the band?

1741.12Yo, Eric, can I play rhythm?CIMAMT::KELLYFeelin' a little edgyMon Mar 26 1990 13:2513
Ahhh, what a pleasure to hear EC with the SNL house band. I thought the
break tune was great: Born Under A Bad Sign. And, yeah, Rick, I saw that
gorgeous tweed Twin he was using...and wanted to reach into the TV and
grab it!

Super slow version of 'Beautiful Tonight' was also nice, mostly 'cause
Eric was playing little countermelodies against original (recorded) version
melodic guitar line.

I grabbed it on the VCR, if anyone is desperate to see it.

Interesting - I'm watching the "Hard n' Heavy vol. #4" video
compilation (Thin Lizzy, Great White, Phantom Blue, Mr Big, to
name a few) and then a MSG (McCauley Schenker Group) cut comes on.
Here's one of my alltime guit heros taking some crap from his producer
about how great talents are harder to work with... blah..blah.
And we get a side look at Schenk's rig. What's in there? A Marshall
of course, but that ain't all. There it is - another one of those
snakeskin Soldano heads. That does it! I'm entering the GFTPM freebe
givaway with the Soldano head in it. Didja think I was gonna say
a KH head was in there? Then it wouldn't have been here in 1741!
