You may want to try a Gibson SG. You can order one with a whammy.
Also, Gibson guitars have a wide, long neck, low action, good
sustain etc. You can get an SG for under a $1000.00.
Try Hampshire Music in Nashua. They have a good selection of Gibson
guitars (as well as Guilds, Kramers, Schecter and others). The prices
are very competitive also.

Hi Dennis,
Well, from that list, I'd recommend this:
A) Charvel/Jackson. If you have a lower priced budget, go with a
Charvel, Model 4, 5 or 6. They have the widest production necks
(I think) and come with a nice vibrato arm (sometimes a Kahler,
moreso a Jackson which is similar to the Floyd...go for the jackson
trem, it has more sustain). The higher number guitars has active
electronics and give a real killer midrange boost. Provides a very
modern sounding distorted tone.
B) Ibanez. You can get more guitar for your money in this ballpark.
Necks are wide but not as wide as the above. They also have a good
vibrato arm that's similar to the Floyd and has mega sustain. Their
pickups are nice, but different than the Jackson pickups. Several
configurations are available. Ibanez has a model which is the guitar
the Vai model is modeled after. Two humbuckers and one single, 24
frets, their ultra-high tech trem with the guitar routed out in
the back to raise notes a 5th and beyond. Its a strat style body
with extra deep cutaways so you can play very comfortably in the
24th fret. A very nice guitar, and about $200 less than the Charvel
Model 6.

| Hi Dennis,
I just last night bought my Charvel/Jackson model 4. It's a jean-cream
puff. Picked it up for 6 bills, and as stated in the note before,
it has the qualities your lookin' for. And that mid-range punch...
whoa !
The only major difference between the model 4 and 6 is about 4 bills
and a neck thru as opposed to bolt on. The electronics and stuff
are same-same.
By the way, the Jackson trem unit is nice... the major difference
between it, and the floyd rose unit, is that the tuners are moved
underneath the unit so they won't foul your hand (or vice-versa).
Makes more sense to me to push and pull horizontally to tune a string
than to push up and down. Grover Jackson is a smart dude.
I also have a Dean "Explorer type" ax you might like...(with a dean
whang bar...)
Have fun, shopping is almost as fun as owning...

| Just to reiterate what's been said the last few replies:
I bought a Charvel Model 6 a few months ago, and I never use anything
else anymore. The humbucker's sustain puts my Les Paul Custom to
shame! And a great tremolo system, too!
Besides, they look great on stage!
