3161.0. "surelock straps.." by USCTR1::pelkey.ogo.dec.com::pelkey (professional hombre) Wed Jan 17 1996 17:52

I went into the local store lookin for
a strap lock thingy... was expecting
to pick up those pins you replace on
your guitar... Not crazy about that so
.... I was about to be amused...

the guy at the store showed me a thing called
"Surelock Strap"..

It's cool...

each end of the strap has a plastic chamber
with a snap lid.. You unsap the lid slide the
strap button on the guitar in and down,
(it's round at the top, and has a narrow
channel underneath the botton hole...)

( ) Insert strap button at top..
	 ||
	 || <- slide down till it's at the
	       bottom..

Then once that's in place, you close the cover
on the chamber and it's locked down... The
snap part has a stop on it that prevents
the rest of this 'chamber' to move up or down.

Perfect... 15 bucks, and you don't have to
replace the buttons...

One thing I don't like about it is there's
alot of plastic, and I'm sure in time, it'll
break,,, but a pretty good idea all the same.

I probably didn't explain it too good, but
maybe you get the idea...

If this is the same as the one's I bought then they suffer a major
problem. The piece that attaches to the guitar strap is secured with a
standard chrome nut which you tighten up so that the assembly is
securely attached to the strap. Unfortunately, this nut undoes itself,
drops of and the next thing you know your guitar hits the floor!

I'll check this..

I don't remember seeing any chrome nuts...

The strap is secured with I believe a molded
plastic piece...

thanks for the tip though,,

The worst strap-locks I've used consist of a leather
piece which you attach to the guitar by removing the
strap button and screw and install the leather strap
behind the button/screw. There is another button about
2" away that your' guitar strap attaches to.

These are the pits. They make it difficult to put the
guitar in it's case, they make it difficult to attach
dettach the strap, and eventually they scratch up the
instrument in the area surrounding the strap buttons.

INHO the best strap locks are the Jim Dunlops. They
are available in chrome or gold and work great

re:3.. yea I got a few of these, I wound
up making strap slits in the, I just made them
really tight, so tight that there tuff to
remove..

Problem these things have is the tend to
stress the screw out, and wind up loosening
it...

The replacement buttons are probably THE best,
but I was sort of against replacing the stock
buttons on my legend...

Wasn't sure what I'd wind up with.. If it was
just wood, I'd not be too worried about it, but
not with an ovation..

ahh well, for what i'll be using them for I'm thinking
these surelocks will be ok.

The Dunlop straplocks that I bought came with a pair of extra long
screws. With a little wood glue on them these aren't going anywhere.
The original screws on the Tele kept coming loose anyway.

Uh...... why?

I have these plastic strap locks that sell for a buck each.
They are plastic disks that have a hole big enough to fit
over the button, you pop them on over the guitar strap,
twist the outer ring and the hole becomes small enough that
the disk won't fit back over the button.

It costs two bucks, requires no work, you can move them
from guitar to guitar in ten seconds and the strap never
never falls off.
