1584.0. "Music stores in the Franklin, Ma area ??" by VIKING::JACQUES () Tue Dec 12 1989 15:51

The group I work for (LSI Aquisition and Test) has just moved from
LM02 (111 Locke Drive, Marlboro, Ma) to FXO (Franklin, Mass). I now
have a 45 minute ride to work in the morning in stead of 15 (I live
in Worcester). Aside from the long ride, I also don't know my way
around the greater Franklin area. I feel like my left arm has just
been amputated. So many adjustments must now be made. For one thing,
are there any decent music stores in the area ?? No more long lunches
at Mr. C's, McDuff's, or Daddy's. I understand there is one music store
on main street in Franklin, and two in Milford. I plan to check these
out when I get a chance.

Any other noters live or work in the area ?? What stores would
you recommend and which ones should I avoid ??

    	Thanks,
    	Mark Jacques_a_recently_lost_soul

Gee Mark, I live in Medway (next to Franklin) and I travel to
Shrewsbury, Worcester, and Framingham for music stores. If I'm
not mistaken, the stores you mentioned were, Barnstorm Music which
has it's main store on Main Street in Milford and they recently
opened that 2nd store in Franklin. The other store is The Music
Nook on Main Street in Milford. Barnstorm seems to be the larger
of the two but IMO, neither is very impressive. To me, these stores
seem to cater mostly to beginners and don't do much to support
working musicians. Prices seem high to me, best check em' out
    for yourself.

    good luck!
    Frank

    Thanks for the input.

Just one other reason to be disenchanted with the Franklin move.

I just drove by Barnstorm Music on Main Street yesterday.......GONE!
Some new type of store (not music related) has moved in.

Geee, they didn't even say goodbye.

About that 2nd store in Franklin, where is it? The guys in the
Main Street store never told me about it. I'll be damned if I'm
gonna drive to Framingham or Worcester for a set of strings. I
hate the Music Nook....definite bad vibes there, know what I mean?

Barnstorm moved to a new location several weeks ago. Their lease
ran out and landlord wanted triple the rent. New location is a
few blocks away. On the same side of the street, proceed in the
direction of the Shell station. They are above a resturaunt called
Cobblestones. Personally, I wouldn't use them for much more than
    a couple'a picks... they're kinda bush league.

P.S.	Cobblestones is a nice little place, by the way.

Gee, now why didn't I think to look above the resturaunt? :-)

    Thanks Marc.

PS - yes, I only buy picks and strings there, but they are nice
    people, IMO.

This note seems as good as any(index) to reply to. I am in Westford
Mass on business and already miss my Martin. I will be here 10 more
days also. Any suggestions as to where I can...."Go and practi///////
I mean try out new stuff". I really hate to pack my guitar on the
    plane. It's 25years old.

    Thanks
