1232.0. "VOX - SolaSound Info" by FOO::BHAVNANI (SYS$UNWIND - laid back VMS) Mon Mar 27 1989 16:29

Does anyone know where I can get some info on VOX axes and pedals
made by Sola Sound (U.K.)? They (Sola Sound) used to make a *wicked*
	wahwah.

    Yes!!!

Roy Good runs a small shop (Goodesound?) above Cambridge music.
He can go on for hours talking about vintage stuff and VOX in
particular. He did a good job with the active electronics on my
VOX Grand Prix and even sent a copy of the schematics.

btw / I'm always looking for VOX's to buy

The old VOX CryBaby wahs are now manufactured by Jim Dunlop and
these are easy to find. Though many will claim the old ones are
    better...scratchier, for sure 8^) 8^) 8^)

I have an old Dallas Arbiter wah, reputedly built in the same Italian
factory that supplied VOX. Yeah, it's grundgy but it does have
a cooler sound than the Dunlop. More of a bite to the wah, if
    ya know what I mean.

I have a spare one of those pots w/ gear which I ordered directly
from Dunlop. It didn't cost $23.00, but I do recall it wasn't cheap.

At home I have the Dunlop address and price list. If you would like
me to send you a copy, drop me a quick vaxmail.

Last year I bought six Allen-Bradley 500K ohm log taper pots
from Newark specifically for pedal pot replacement. They have
2" aluminum shafts which can be cut to any length, but don't
come with the little gear. You'll have to press or pin it on
    your self, as I did.

I'd try (Radio Shack perhaps) a few drops of pot cleaner fluid
(about $1.99 a can) before replacing the pot. It did wonders for
	my old wah.

1232.8Limited travel?FOO::BHAVNANISYS$UNWIND - laid back VMSTue Mar 28 1989 16:415
I found the travel on the Dunlop pedal to be very limited. The
SolaSound had a nice 60 degree travel that would let you do
cruel things to the harmonics when pulled all the way back.

    re: pot cleaner

In my case this crap (from Rat shack) made my pot worse, to the
point that I retired the Wah...I'll never use it again on anything.

    Re: pot with gear

Funny thing, I just replaced the pot on my VOX Wah last week. Bought
a replacement for about $2 at the radio shack. The gear on the
original is in there with a drive pin. Just tap it out and use it
on the new pot. Of course you have to cut the new shaft to length
and drill it for the pin. Couldn't have taken more than 15 minutes!
I think my pedal's 20+ years old and this is my 3rd pot.
