3215.0. "Who's making solo jazz gtr CD's these dayz? " by CRONIC::PCUMMINGS (Minority Rules) Mon Jul 01 1996 14:06

       So who are the cats producing solo jazz guitar CD's these days? One
       guy who comes to mind for me is Tuck Andress, though I don't have
       alot of his stuff. I ran across a bunch of CD's the other nite in
       Tower by Scottish guitarist Martin Taylor - don't know much about
       him, but looks like there were 4 or 5 CD's by him which appear to
       be solo. I'm looking for somebody with a hip approach to harmony.

       ideas ?

I'm not really up to date on current solo jazz guitar, but I can think of
another place you might look for similar ideas - contemporary classical
guitar. The harmony may not be that different from the kind of jazz you
have in mind.

In particular, I'd suggest "Four Fragments" by Frank Martin and "El Polifemo
de Oro" by Reginald Smith-Brindle. There's at least one CD by Julian Bream
which is in print and has one of these or the other on it.
