474.0. "Acoustics with Preamps and Knobs" by SNO78A::PASFIELD () Mon Jan 25 1988 02:12

I'm in the market for an Acoustic Guitar with a built in pre-amp
and Volume and Tone controls. The only ones around here I've played
so far are Yamaha, Takamine and Maton (Australian made).

Maton and Takamine are nice guitars while the Yamahas tend to be
    a little cheap 'n' nasty.

Ok, I'd appreciate any feedback from anyone in-the-know of these
types of guitars with regards to Personal taste, Value for money,
effectiveness of electronics, playability, acoustic sound, amplified
    sound, price etc etc...

I'm favouring inbuilt hardware over Mike/pickup/stick_this_thing_here
because I plan a lot of spontaeous_who_has_an_amp_handy type playing
    in the near future.

    Thanks folks,
    Colin_see_you_at_fall_jam_Pasfield.

Tis is just my opinion but the best sounding acoustic/electric,
(played through an amp as oposed to without) is Ovation. Year after
year they still sound the best to me. Now if you are playing without
am amp then there are alot of others that sound better (all wood).

As far as playability, the Ovation is the easyest playing guitar
I have played. So I guess it comes down to sound and how the guitar
    plays.

I own a takaminie, it's agreat guitar, the pickup works very good.
For recording there is a slight amount of buzz (way down there
but still audable). The tak seems to perform as well as any others
I've tried it uses the same or very similar pickup system as the
    ovation.
