In my quest to find a decent power amp for the P.A. system
I'm putting together, I have had many dissapointments. I've been
to many music stores, and have found most everything was out of
my price range. I have been looking for a power amp with at least
100 watts per side for around $300. Everything seemed to be in the
$500 and up range. This weekend I checked out Fitchburg music and
ended up buying an AMR PMA200 amp. AMR is a company that is owned,
I believe, by Peavey. They mainly make recording eqiupment, including
multitrack cassette recorders, mixers, monitors, microphones, and
the power amp. They also offer phantom power supplies for cardiode
microphones, and headphone distribution boxes. I noticed that they
have been advertising in Guitar player for the last several months.

The amp is a stright forward stereo power amp. It has unbalanced
1/4" phone jack inputs, (no balanced inputs unfortunately), and dual
binding post speaker outputs. The front panel has an attenuator
for each channel. A totem pole type led level indicator for each
channel. DDT (compression circuiit) indicators. You can defeat the
DDT by pulling the attenuators out. It is of course 19" rack mountable.
It is rated at 100 watts rms continuous at 8 ohms with less than
.008% distortion. The amp weighs 29 pounds, which isn't too bad
for carrying. I plan to have everything mounted in one rack weighing
less than 60 pounds. It will be lighter to move than my Twin Reverb
which I believe weighs about 80 pounds with the JBL speakers in
    it.

I paid $329.oo for the unit, but didn't bother to dicker with them
    about the price.

I now have a somewhat complete system consisting of a Peavey
701R mixer, Alesis Midiverb II multieffects unit, and the AMR PMA200
power amp. I hooked up everything to my Klipsch KG4 stereo speakers
and let er rip this weekend. Now I can appreciate the stereo effects
capability of the Alesis MidiverbII. The power amp sounds extremely
clean, as was promised by Dave Rivers, of Fitchburg Music, and ran
fairly cool considering it runs without a fan. I plan to stick a
small boxer fan in the rack later for stage use, but they don't
recommend using one for recording since it makes for too much
    extraneous noise.

Anybody else out there have any experiences with AMR products?
If so, I would appreciate hearing if your happy with them or not.

I have a PD4 headphone distribution box and am very pleased. It's
well made, has a mono/stereo switch, and allows 4 sets of phones
to be used simultaneously. A must for multitracking. And it's only
    45 bucks.

    Yup, Peavey owns AMR.
