2198.0. "DPaint on a hardrive?" by GRYHWK::WITHERS (No life I know can compare with pure imagination..) Fri Feb 03 1989 15:24

    Hello everyone.

I just got my hard drive yesterday. After putting up Manx happily, I
attempted to seat DPaint into place, when..alas..failure!

Dpaint loads fine from the harddrive (I just copied the DPaint file
from the disk) and runs fine, but when I attempt to save a picture.
    It demands disk DF1:, the problem? I DON'T HAVE A DF1!!!

Anybody know a workaround or fix to this?

I think there's a later version of DPaint that doesn;t have to have DF1.
It has DH0: instead of DH: also.

Use NEWZAP to change DF1: to DH1: or like I did Dii: then in my
startup, I assigned Dii: to a drawings drawer and that's where
    it goes first.

BTW, I just saw a demo of DPaintIII, and I just can't wait to get
my own copy, it's better than II.

Is DPIII available yet,a nd is there an upgrade program?

INFO magazine (issue #24, Jan/Feb 89) had a blurb about DPaint III.
Electronic Arts was showing DPIII at Comdex. Improvements include
HalfBrite support, animation capabilities, and direct overscan
    painting.

No word on release date or upgrade program.

As I recall, that upgrade from DPaint I to DPaint II was offered
for $37, with some variations based on whether or not you wanted
    a non-copy protected version.

Lets all pray that they ditch their pathetic file requestor and
    use an ARP type version.

Let's also hope they figure out that there are more than 20 fonts
available now, so the fonts menu will not wrap around the screen
with results the Intuition manual describes as "not pretty".

Back to the original question. I just put an "assign DF1: DH0:"
in my startup sequence. This fixes many programs that want a DF1:.

THere is also a program on FF111 called assigndev that lets you
assign multiple names to a given device. Or if you do not have
a floppy drive DF1: mount a hard disk partition as DF1:. I did that
to use Print Master + data files on the hard disk.

try the assignment as.. ASSIGN "DPAINT:" hdname:DPAINT
My doc's don't say what version I have., but it has its
own references to dfo: df1: and hd:. Anyway it works for me.
