2647.0. "Help printing 'landscape'" by HPSCAD::GATULIS (Frank Gatulis) Thu Jun 15 1989 22:48

I need help - I want to print a spreadsheet as "landscape" and
can't figure out how. Situation is this -

I build a spreadsheet with Maxiplan which is about 125 columns by
about 25 rows and want to fit it on a single sheet without shrinking
the fonts (want to use pica). Sounds simple! Maxiplan allows you to
set up the correct preference values for rows and columns but no way
    to rotate!

I "can" write it to a file the way I want it but still can't rotate
when it comes time to print. The horizontal/vertical option in
preferences appears to work for a graphic dump only.

So what can I do? Possibilities -

Is there A way I can print a text file as a graphic? Screen
dump doesn't work because it won't all fit on the screen at the
    	same time.

Is there any PD software anywhere that can rotate and print?

Any other solutions? I really don't want to go through the upload
and conversions that it would take to get it out on a device
at work. I want to do it at home on my NEC P5200 which is a
    	narrow tractor dot matrix printer.

   Suggestions greatly appreciated

    Frank

See how much you appreciate this one (-:

	Reorganize your problem solution.

Isn't there ANY way you can change the logic to 25 columns
and 125 rows or consolidate some of the columns ? I know its "NICE"
to have columns that add vertically, its also "NICE" to have lots of
detail, but there comes a point....... , etc.

2647.2sure, there ARE workaroundsHPSCAD::GATULISFrank GatulisSat Jun 17 1989 01:0915

    Re: -1
Sure Reg ... I could change the logic exactly as youy suggest. Point
is that it wouldn't have the asthetics of a "real" spreadsheet that
an accountant would produce. This is a financial application.

I expect (or expected, as the case may be) to be able to do at least
132 columns and then be able to rotate the printout just like I can do
on my VT240. Even the PC has a utility called "sideways" that can
do this! Maybe I'll get ambitious and finally write my first Amiga
    program to do this.

Frank, someone may have beaten you to it...

MicroSystemsSoftware, makers of the Analyze! spreadsheet, created a
'sideways' program that is bundled with the Works! Platinum edition.

You need to find out two things...

    1. Is Sideways! available as a standalone program, and
    2. Can it print a MaxiPlan file? I suspect so, since the ads
state that it will print any ASCII file rotated @ 90 degrees.

    Hope this helps...

Someone told me there is an Amiga version of sideways, but I don't
know the name of it, check out the Amiga stores.

Sideways printing is one of the deluxe paint print options. I tried reading
my printer manual looking for an escape sequence that might help
    - no luck. also havent seen landscape/sideways printing as a feature
of any WP package...I'd be interested if anyone knows of any package
    that can handle it

what about the Fish disks? any PD utility out there?

    Take a look at FOSTER::DUA1:[PILEEKI.AMIGA]FLIPTEXT.ARC

I downloaded this pd software sometime ago and if I remember
    correctly it actually works!

2647.8Works but I want betterHPSCAD::GATULISFrank GatulisThu Jun 22 1989 00:4510
    re .7

I downloaded FLIPTEXT.ARC It does work but not quite what I want.
It doesn't handle underline, bold, italics. Nor can I seem to get
good quality print. Print quality (density) is poor. I'll keep
looking. Think i'll hit the memory location and see if I can test
    drive sideways or something.
