2590.1Its the same on my 1084s!CURRNT::HERBERTHerbie Goes BananasThu May 25 1989 15:576
    I have exactly the same problem will my 1084s, the picture starts
    half way down the screen and disappears off the bottom. Moving
    the vertical hold knob is a waste of time because any other program
    disappears of the top!!!

    I have the game and have no such problem. I noticed the screen
    not to be perfectly centered (2 or 3 mm) max, nothing to worry
    about.
    Is it possible you try to run an american floppy on a european
    system?
    Does that makes any sense?
2590.3I HATE copy protection like this!EUCLID::OWENCthulhu called...Fri May 26 1989 12:1421
    I've had problems with the Game crashing somewhere along the way.
    I get an error message and am told to call the company (real expensive
    because it's in Canada!). I sent my old one back, and the sent
    me a new. Same thing happened, so I called again, and they told
    me that it was a problem that is sometimes unavoidable because of
    COPY PROTECTION! After reading dozens of messages on BBS's about
    the problem, I too finaly realized that nothing could be done.
    I'd just be wasting my money to keep sending the games back for
    new ones.

    I told them that this was the LAST piece of software that I'd buy
    from them.

    Just because they think some pirate is going to try to copy it is
    no excuse for screwing the paying customer out of a working piece
    of software.

    <Flame off>
    BTW, the game is excellent... when it works.

2590.4.3 ... I Agree!HPSCAD::GATULISFrank GatulisFri May 26 1989 15:2916
    Re .3

    Right on! I've had the same problems. Crashes whenever it likes,
    different places, very inconsistant. They replaced my game already.
    The replacement works/fails intermittantly. I'm waiting again for
    a new Disk #1.

    I'm hoping that "eventually" one of the copy protection programs
    (NIB, RAW Copy, etc) will find a way to back this up such that
    problem will go away.

    I also, will not be purchasing other software from ReadySoft until
    they get their act together.

Apparently VTI is no longer using REadySoft as a distributer for their stuff.
VTI also has a good variation of Stargate/Defender out.

As for the copy protection. The Amiga floppy drive/controller combination can
not write out the sectors properly to duplicate the disk on an Amiga. The put
12 sectors on some of the outer most tracks (norm is 11). You need a controller
& drive combo that can write variable speed to do this.
2590.6A copier for Dragon's LairCSOA1::LENDavid M. LenFri May 26 1989 21:297
    A local BBS has program that claims to backup Dragon's Lair. It
    does require 2 drives and tweaking the disk speed on one to allow
    for a higher density recording. The doc file states that Marauder
    II can be used to check your disk speed setting.

    If someone wants to give it a try, I can get it and upload it to TAPE.

    please upload. I'd like to try it, and am also very curious if
    it has any info on what brand/make of 3.5" disk drives have adjustable
    speeds (and how that speed is adjusted). I really don't like the
    idea of running off the originals, particularly given the method
    of copy protection they used.

    The information file does not tell how to change the disk speed.
    I got the impression that any floppy could be adjusted. Someone
    at one of the local user group meetings said there is an adjuster
    screw to set the speed.

    The file DLCOPY.ZOO has been copied to NORSE::AMIGA:[UPLOAD]

    Let us know what it takes if you get it to work.
2590.9Copy protection gone forever (someday)NZOV01::MCKENZIEDiehard the hunterSun May 28 1989 20:1612
RE: Copy protection problems

        Someday this may be a thing of the past...I have just read that
    both Electronic Arts (with deluxe paint) and the word perfect people
    are removing copy protection from their Amiga products in line with
    many others. They say the reason is customer demand. Customers were
    apparantly getting nasty about not being able to make a backup copy
    of these products for day-to-day usage and sales were dropping in
    favour of alternative packages with no software copy protection
    mechinism.

    re:.8

    Thanks for uploading it, I just read the readme file. Interesting
    that they say it can only be written to new disks, not used.

    I've only seen one model of 3.5" disk drive that had a speed adjust
    pot, I believe it was a Mashuita or something approx. spelled like that
    :-) Almost got the impression that the manufacturers didn't want
    users playing around with the speed and then complaining when the
    drive doesn't work for reading normal disks.
