1863.0. "Matrix Laboratory" by LEDS::ACCIARDI (Dukakis should pluck his eyebrows) Wed Nov 09 1988 15:44

    Some nice person has ported MatLab (Matrix Laboratory) to the Amiga.
    MatLab is Public Domain, but the original version has spawned a
    number of enhanced commercial products, like MatrixX.

    MatLab performs all types of matrix operations, like multiplication,
    addition, transposition, inversion, eigenvalue extraction, and a
    slew of operations that I'm not even familiar with. Ever need to
    solve 10 simultaneous equations? You could do it in about 10 seconds
    with MatLab. It would take a week to do by hand, and you'd be certain
    to get the wrong answer. Anyone who's interested in state-space
    analysis or vibration problems could use this program.

    MatLab runs from CLI only, but there are rumors of an Intuition
    front end, if there's sufficient interest.

    It's a fairly large file, and there's a seperate (also large)
    documentation package. If there's any interest, I'll upload it.

    Ed.

	I'm interestd. Also does anyone (or this file for that matter)
	have any ANALOG SIMULATORS for the Amiga?

	I'm interested in a Spice-like simulator...Or alternatively,
	if someone has sources I have a C compiler...

1863.2Another vote.RAVEN1::EVERHARTWed Nov 09 1988 16:0810
    I'm interested too. Being still in school, I need to use Matrices
    almost every day. I'd also be interested in a spice-like system
    for the Amiga. Any packages out there for circuit Analysis? I
    have something for the I*M called Micro-Cap II, but it won't run
    on the Amiga. It's a really nice graphically oriented system (IE,
    no programming languages for circuit construction) If there's
    something out there similar to that, it would be nice.

    I think I have a small modal analysis (electrical or mechanical)
    program called SNAP (Simple Nodal Analysis Program). This one had
    an Intuition front end, but I never really played with it very much.

    I do have a program written in Basic that solves for the forced
    response of undamped multi-degree-of-freedom systems given the
    masses, spring rates, and forcing function magnitude and frequency.
    It only handles sinusoidal inputs (step response is a whole lot
    tougher).

    Glad to see some masochistic engineering types here...

    I believe I'll upload to martin Ellis' RA81. I'll first post the
    files (MATLAB.ZOO, MATLABDOcS.ARC, SNAP.ARC) to

    	NORSE""::AMIGA:[UPLOAD]

    I'll then send Martin e-mail asking that the files be moved to

    	NORSE""::AMIGA:[UTILITIES]

    I expect I'll have everything uploaded by Saturday 11/12/88. The
    next few nights are booked.

    Speaking of SPICE, I found what appears to be a working binary of
    an older version of PSPICE on a local bbs that I will upload if
    someone will tell me where I can copy it to.

    I haven't used it much yet (no time etc.), but it appears to be
    complete.

    Thanks to a female-only party that my wife attended (which featured a
    male stripper) I found that I had quite a bit of free time on my hands
    last night. I completed the uploading of MATLAB.ZOO, MATLABDOCS.ARC,
    and SNAP.ARC to NORSE""::AMIGA[UPLOAD].

    As soon as Martin approves the uploads, they're yours for the asking.

1863.11Source code, anyone?PARITY::MUTHmore people per capita...Thu Nov 10 1988 11:5414
    I have the source code for the PD version of MATLAB if anyone is
    interested. Most of the code is in "vanilla" FORTRAN, except for
    a system-dependent file which contains routines for screen and file I/O,
    graphics, etc. There are system files for some popular OSes such as VMS
    and Unix (I made a quick-and-dirty MS-DOS version too).  I've compiled it
    under VMS and MS-DOS and it works great! The installation manual describes
    what the files do, and how create overlays for computers with small
    memories.

    Any takers?

1863.16VMS MatlabPARITY::MUTHmore people per capita...Fri Nov 18 1988 15:0832
    I have uploaded the VMS version of MATLAB (including source) in
    the directory PARITY::USER$04:[MUTH.MATLAB.VMS].  Relavent files
    include:

	INSTALL.      installation instructions 1100 lines
	MAT.FOR source code for MATLAB subroutine 3850 lines
	LIB.FOR       source library 3339 lines
	SYS_UNIX.FOR  Unix system-dependent code 900 lines
	SYS_VMS.FOR   VMS system-dependent code 260 lines
	MATLAB.DOC full manual in original form 3960 lines
	HELP.LIS help text 700 lines (place in directory $MATLAB)
	DEMO. eigenvalue sensitivity example 21 lines
	MATZ.FOR      MATZ 100 lines
	MATLAB.NROFF NROFF input for manual 3250 lines
	MAT.SNGL single precision MATLAB subroutine 3850 lines
	LIB.SNGL single precision library source 3339 lines
	MATLAB.EXE    executable files

    The documentation (MATLAB.DOC) should be PRINTed using the
    /NOFEED qualifier. Also, the logical name $MATLAB should
    be defined as the directory where HELP.LIS may be found.
    (the program will crash if $MATLAB is not defined).

    In summary, to get a running version of MATLAB, use the following:

    $copy parity::user$04:[muth.matlab.vms]matlab.exe []
    $copy parity::user$04:[muth.matlab.vms]help.lis []
    $define $matlab directory_where_HELP.LIS_is_located
    $run matlab

	Hi,

	Is there any chance of re-posting PSPICE? I copied the .ZOO file
	in November but hadn't had the time to upload it until this past
	weekend. Anyway after much wasted time the file wouldn't de-ZOO.

	The .ZOO file on my VAX had 2 RMS errors...

	John, have you gotten PSPICE to work?

	Everytime I try to copy it from NORSE (with either COPY
	or FTSV) I get RMS errors when I do an ANAL/ERROR.

	Is this expected?

	There is another SPICE, ASPICE, on FF177 but it requires
	1.5M. I'm running with 1/2 Meg. :-( [actually its my
	brother-in-law's machine so don't tell ME to upgrade]

	Thanx again to the fine human being who uploaded MATLAB!

    I realize you can't use Aspice but I just thought I'd mention that a
    while back I ran a few circuits through HSPICE on the VAX and then ran
    the same decks (unmodified) through Aspice and the results were the
    same to within 2-3 significant figures. Of course a 10 sec run on the
    VAX took 15 minutes on my generic 7.16 Mhz Amiga, but that is to be
    expected...

    It was 9.7 cpu seconds on an VAX 8650.
           920 seconds on a Amiga 1000 (Real time, but I set the priority
               up high so it had the full attention of the machine. Mouse
