2323.0. "HELP ME use CSIX.EXE, PLEASE!!" by BAHAMA::KNIGHT () Sat Mar 04 1989 16:57

    Help!!??

    I've just latched onto the CSIX.EXE program to convert some of my
    DPAINT II pictures to SIXEL for display on my VAXstation and VT340.

    I can't find any instructions on how to use the routine. I found
    an earlier note that gives a command, but I guess it hurts if you
    do it wrong! All I get are errors telling me too many params.

    I have also tried "run csix.exe/file=filename.iff", but that produces
    and error. Can someone please give me an example of the commands,
    params, etc to use with the CSIX.EXE routine, and/or if there is
    a help or readme file for it somewhere?

    Thanks

    KK

    The secret is to define CSIX as a foreign command.

    $CSIX :== $device:[directory]csix.exe

    Then the syntax is $CSIX input_file output_file
2323.2 V1.3 Docs CRISTA::CAPRICCIOAm I getting enough Oat Bran?Mon Mar 06 1989 17:4169
    The docs for V1.3:

CSIX  V1.3

Description: This is an AMIGA IFF to color sixel translator intended
		for DEC Internal Use Only.

Changes for V1.3:

              1. It now handles HAM pictures. It uses only the 256
                  most commonly occuring colors in the picture. Maybe
                  sometime in the future I'll change this to modify
                  the color registers on the fly so that no color
                  remapping needs to be done, but the sixel file will
                  probably get very large.

              2. 320 x 200 pics will be doubled in size if -pLJ250 is
                  specified.

              3. Made a slight change in the LJ250 color table (lin_pct[16])
                  so that pictures should be a little less dark.

              4. Corrected a bug where the left margin specified was also
                  doubled when CSIX was doubling the width of a pic.

Usage:  $ CSIX :== $yourdisk:[yourdirectory]csix.exe
	$ CSIX [-e#] [-l#] [-pLJ250] [-r] [-t#] iff_file_name [sixel_filename]

	The iff file will be read in and the sixel file will be created.
	If you don't enter a sixel file name then a new version of the
	IFF filename will be created.

	-e	The argument for this parameter should be an integer.
		This will be used in the sixel sequence introducer
		as the SSU (?) parameter (prior to the letter "q").
		This effects the LCG01 output by enlarging the picture.
		This value defaults to 8. For landscape pictures try
		16 or 20.

	-l	This should be followed by a number to indicate how many
		PIXELS to indent the LEFT margin.

	-p	The option must be followed by the argument LJ250 at
		this time. It will instruct CSIX to output a sixel
		file for the LJ250. Three things will be done:

		1) Pictures of the 1:2 aspect ratio will be horizontally
		   doubled to a 1:1 aspect ratio since the LJ250 cannot
		   print 1:2.
		2) A color map which is appropriate for the LJ250 will
		   be used rather than one for the LCG01.
                3) Pictures of the 320 by 200 pixel size will be both
		   horizontally and vertically doubled. The LJ250 prints
                   these very small otherwise.

	-r	Rotate the picture 90 degrees. This option won't work
                for HAM pictures.

	-t	This should be followed by a number to indicate how many
		SIXEL lines should be placed in the TOP margin.

Sample: $ CSIX -pLJ250 -l125 -t5 beauty.ilbm beauty.six
	$ VTPRINT beauty.six                    ! LJ250 attached to terminal

	$ CSIX -e16 org_chart.iff org_chart.six
	$ @PRINTLCG.COM				! LCG01 print command file
						!   Prompts for various info.

    Looks Good! I have a VT340 and an LJ250 available to me. Can you
    tell me more about VTPRINT? Is a copy of this available on the
    net?

    Thanx,

    It's in WJG::DUA1:[AMIGA]CSIX.ARC. I've left LMO so it's no longer in
    ANT::LIB1:[SMCAFEE.PUBLIC].

2323.6HELP WITH CSIXGLDOA::BERREYI'm the NRAWed Mar 08 1989 16:1011
    Howdy!

    Could someone tell me where I can copy the unarc'ed version of csix
    from? I have tried to unarc it several times and I'm getting nowhere.
    If one of you fine folks out there could give me a hand i would
    be very grateful. We have a project coming up in our office that
    this utility could be very useful for.

    Thanks Much!

2323.8DECWindow GPX display doesn't look goodNAVIER::MELLITZTue Sep 04 1990 21:416
    I've used CSIX to create color files that print to the LJ250. But
    I have problems displaying files I render for the VT340 on my
    DECWindows GPX II. The picture displays, but it almost looks like
    a negitive image. Anyone have any ideas?

    Probably not enough bit planes allocated for the window. I used to use
    Jeff Lomicka's CHILD.EXE to create 8 bit-plane terminal windows to
    display the pictures. However, there may be an easier VMS way to do it
    now with CREATE/TERMINAL...

2323.10How do you display itBAHTAT::FORCE4::hiltonHow's it going royal ugly dudes?Wed Sep 05 1990 09:375
I used UTOX to display some images which looked negative, but it has
an option "SWAP colourmap" which fixes it, but makes windows look awful!

    I just tried UTOX. "Swap Colormap" did fix the display. Any time
    I click on another window I get the old colormap back.

Sometimes you can do a Swap Colormap again and it looks ok.

    Very interesting! It seems the color of the pointer has the biggest
    effect of what UTOX displays for a Digi-Paint captured and CSIX'ed
    picture.
