    - On board memory in PV to store frames being digitized
    - separate physical Brightness and Contrast controls
    - Digitizes a frame in real time on the screen. You can actually
use the screen to focus, adjust, etc.
    - Separate connector to allow using an RGB color splitter. Useful
if you have a color camera.
    - Quality of output seemed better than I could get with DV.
    - A color digitize takes the amount of time it takes to turn the
      color wheel!
    - Ability to make a "movie". It will store successive frames in
real time. The number of frames you are able to store is obviously
dependent upon amount of memory you have. Should be a great way
    to make animations.
    - Built in image processor to average, slice etc a captured image.

If you couple Perfect Vision with PixMate (image processor), the
two will allow you do do just about anything.

Next step is to upgrade the lens on the Panasonic. That seems to
be the point where I am losing resolution.

What kind of lens will you upgrade to. I believe that the lens is
a large part of my problem as well. I get darkening at the corners
of the picture no matter how much light I provide. (I am currently
    using DigiView and a Panasonic)

Another problem I am having is with resolution of detailed pictures.
I can't seem to get sharp lines in 4096 mode. I've tried to use
Pixmate to process the image, and even though I can accentuate the
lines, some of the picture's realism is taken away.

Does anybody have any good Pixmate tricks?

Does Perfect Vision digitize in 32color mode as well?

How does Perfect Vision connect to the Amiga?

1217.4How about "confetti"?TLE::RMEYERSRandy MeyersFri Mar 04 1988 19:1817
Re: .3

I believe that the Memory Location has PerfectVision in stock. They are
also being advertised in all the magazines. I don't remember the price.

Re: .1

How good is PerfectVision at eliminating "confetti" on the screen?

Confetti is the odd colored pixels you get at a border between two
vastly different colors in a HAM image if you didn't choose your
color palette well.

I can easily spot the different between a DigiView I and a DigiView II
picture. The DV I will have lots of confetti, and the DV II will have
none.

Note the followup line. I presume this would be an appropriate item for
the new group.

I picked up a nice Vivitar f2.8 55mm Macro lens at a large camera store
in Palo Alto last year. It works very well, and I can get good full
screen images from an original area the size of a thumb-nail. About
$125, as I recall.

Of course the quality of the image is highly dependent on the resolution of
the original, but I've had acceptable results from sources like the slick
pages in TV-Guide, etc.)

In addition to the lens itself, you'll need to get a "C-type" adaptor, to
mate the lens to the small threaded aperture of the camera. $30.

And figure out a way to support the Digi-View color filter wheel (if the
individual segments are large enough to cover the new lens). Or you can
pick up some red, green, and blue gel filters that fit on the Macro lens.
$15 ea. (Can also have fun, and create some interesting color effects
with other filters, polorizers, etc.)

I'm quite pleased with this setup, though a lens that can zoom between
macro usage and normal usage would be very handy. But those cost some
really significant bucks ($400+). And, given the attainable quality,
resolution, etc. of the results, would be a waste of money.

I'd recommend a tour of the camera shop to see what's available, and then
hit the pawn shops, Potpourri, and so forth. Or maybe the back-page
mail-order outfits in Photography Today, or whatever.

As for lights ... I've been using the same pair of 100w. bulbs that I use
with the normal lens (though you can play with lighting quit a bit for
effects, improved quality, etc.) [ Isn't "quantity of light" measured
in lumens, and "intensity" in foot-candles, or some such? ]

One other thing ... for best results, don't forget the "mechanical focus"
adjustment on the back end of the camera. It can help getting those close
closeup's too.
