3029.0. "HELP WITH .ZOO AND .ARC" by ECOLND::ROY () Thu Oct 19 1989 02:25

    Could one of you please point me in the right direction as to where I
    might find a note describing how to DE-ARC and DE-ZOO a file. I have
    both ARC and ZOO but how do you use them. I know there must be a note
    in here somewhere but I can't find it.

                                            Thanks

    UUUUUUAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH,

    YES, there are tons of topics/replies how to use ZOO and ARC.
    I recommend the following:

    	1. do a dir/title=zoo or arc and read the related stuff
    	2. read ALL the topics in BOMBE::AMIGA   :-) :-) :-)
    	   [6-7 hours sleep a day are enough :-) :-) :-)]
	3. send me VAXmail with a valid destination or VAXmail-address
    	   and i copy the manuals to your system

    ok? let me know,

    Ralf

3029.2Use AVN an unofficial product.CAM::ARENDTHarry Arendt CAM::Thu Oct 19 1989 13:5223

    Rather than using notes directly you might like to investigate a
    tool called AVN Automated Vax Notes. AVN allows the user to do
    many usefull notes operations and will run batch jobs to perform
    them.  For example:

    Daily News - AVN goes out to selected notes files and gets all unseen
                 notes and delivers them to you. Good to run this at
                 off hours.

    Watch Note - Watches a note for next reply, will fire up every so
                 often and check for replies, get them and mail them
                 to you.

    Local Search - AVN maintains the top level directory for each
                   conference (ie not the replies) locally on your VAX
                   and allows you to search this based on the title
                   string. It will then submit a batch job which will
                   fetch the notes you want, with all replies, and
                   mail it to you.

    Local search is very usefull for searching conferences and is very
    fast.

ARC and ZOO have pretty good help screens that are displayed by typing
ARC ? or ARC h and ZOO ?.
