4450.0. "UUCP V1.08D Uploaded" by HKFINN::MACDONALD (VAXELN - Realtime Software Pubs) Thu Jan 24 1991 16:48

    I have uploaded V1.08D of UUCP to
    TAPE::USER2:[UPLOAD]UUCP_18_1.LZH
                        UUCP_18_2.LZH

    Sources, too, at
    TAPE::USER2:[UPLOAD]UUCP18_SRC.LZH

    Improvements over v1.06D appear to be: more bugfixes, more flexible
    mail addressing, improved Usenet news handling, works better with
    Trailblazer modems.

    NEWSREADYCMD appears to print the notification to the screen in one
    particular spot. Is there anyway to change that? I believe it is a
    function of DNEWS.

I've trouble with part 2: on vme a "lharc l UUCP_18_2.LZH"  returns:

LHARC Error: Invalid header (LHarc file ?)a

just after:
   6620   11056  59.8% a2d8 Jan 10 21:47 1991 uucp2/c/uuname

I've copied it twice, with the same result ... I haven't tried on amiga yet
but I'd expect to have the same problem there ... unless it's a vms problem.

BTW, are there lharc, zoo, etc. available for ultrix systems ?

Cheers, Mauro.

Re. *

We (the Software Brewery) installed 1.08 during the weekend and ran into
several problems ranging from minor to fatal.
Getty now seems to be crashing more often when not called with the -d0
switch. It also had severe problems during the connect phase with another
1.08 system, so we switched back to 1.08.
For laughs, try the 1.08 compress (it will work, though).

Matt is informed (We're on his mailing list).
BTW, I can read you Paul (McDonald)... ;-)

Cheers,

<CB>

    RE: .4

    Ahh .. das ist gut! It took me a couple of days to figure out
    why all that email from coming to me. Then I started looking at the
    header and realized there was an amiga-uucp distribution!

    Any idea how to get the NEWSREADYCMD to place the "You have new news!"
    message in another part of the title bar than its default location?
    Someone had modified a previous version of DNEWS to accept a -hnnn and
    -vnnn positional arguments in the UULIB:CONFIG file's NEWSREADYCMD
    line. But apparently, V1.08 DNEWS doesn't have this functionality.

    I can read you too <CB> :-). I also got confused when the mailing
    list started sending me stuff -- it always looks like I'm being
    asked directly. Not sure how I'm gonna be able to tell when someone
    REALLY sends me direct email on UUCP.

    I also had problems with 1.07beta/1.08 UUCP release. COMPRESS changed
    in a manner that screws me up, so I'm using 1.06 COMPRESS. I found
    that if you use the "-pri" option of UUCICO (or is it GETTY?), it
    will ALWAYS guru on my system after communication has completed.
    Also, UUCICO seems to produce protocol errors and long "phone off
    hook" problems when talking to other amiga systems running 1.06D
    Soooo, I'm still using 1.06D's UUCICO. The new SENDMAIL and UUXQT
    seem good through -- nice having all that new info logged in the
    logfile.

    Matts aware of all these also.

    My advise is NOT to upgrade your whole 1.06D kit at this time.

Yup, I get your mails too Keith. The difference should be quite clear, at least
for me the To: line says something like "amiga-uucp@overload.berkely.ca.us".
In case of doubt and mangled/re-rerouted mails take a look at the header.

Right, the mail stuff and some other components seem to be improved _and_
stable. ;-)
I wonder what deamon posses Matt to always breake the vital parts in a new
distribution (1.05 and 1.06(uucico) where just the same). ;-)

Use the source, Luke, ehr, Paul. ;-)
It shouldn't be to hard to either change the location or add the missing
postioning parameters...

I think some of the the DEC mailers will do that. Do you go through
one of the dec machines to get to your home system?
