924.0. "SCAN for Amiga?" by BISON::YESSE (Computing at 6200 ft.) Wed Nov 25 1987 13:23

Does anyone know of a Vax SCAN-like language for the Amiga?
I've been using SCAN at work, & it comes in very handy.

For those unfamiliar with SCAN, it's essentially a character/
string manipulation language that permits file editing based
on pattern matches. We use it to translate & format ASCII output
from one program into a file readable by another. Beats the heck
out of using C or Basic for this purpose!

Since SCAN is a VMS-specific language (as far as I can tell), I
doubt that you'd find it for the Amiga. But, I suspect that there
may be a PD SNOBOL somewhere and SNOBOL is (personal opinion) more
    flexible than SCAN...

re:	.0

I have the source for ICON (the follow on for SNOBOL) for U**X and VMS. Let
me know if you want to try porting it.

ICON has already been ported, and is on a FISH disk.
    I don't remember which number.

    What about sed?

I know Manx includes one with their unixish utilities. It will do
    that sort of thing.
