4204.0. "A500 won't boot" by SMAUG::MELANSON (Jeff Melanson, IBM I/C) Tue Oct 16 1990 09:56

Without warning, my A500 fails to boot and displays the following
    Software Guru message:

    	#00000003.00C01570

    My configuration is A500 + Supra mem/clock + A590 HD.

Before I bring it into the shop, I was wondering if anyone has any
ideas as to what the problem is.

    Thanks,

    	Jeff Melanson

    Jeff,

Just how far does the boot process get? It sounds like you're past the
initial hardware check and into the execution of s/startup-sequence.

Does the same symptom occur if you boot from DF0? Perhaps you have a
corrupted executable file on the hard disk. I don't have a memory map
in order to say where location 00C01570 is, but if it's in the A590
expansion RAM, it would certainly be worth your while to boot/run the
    A590 RAM test program.

I don't think the boot got that far. The same symptom occurs
irregardless of the boot device (i.e., HD or DF0:). I even tried
booting as a minimum A500 by removing the HD, modem, joystick, external
floppy and the same symptom appeared.

My understanding is that $c00000 memory is the 512K expansion memory
located in the underside of the A500. Try reseating or removing the
"trap door memory module" and rebooting.

I brought the machine into Omnitek and they fixed the problem by
    simply reseating the IC's.
