4061.0. "Urgent help with TS 3.0 and Supra 2000 mem. exp" by TROA09::ITHOMSON () Wed Aug 29 1990 12:22

    Hi guys,
         I need mucho help. I purchased Turbo Silver 3.0 a couple weeks
    ago, and I could not run it on my Amiga. My machine only had 1
    MEG, with hard drive (Amigs 2000HD). So I went out and purchased
    the SUPRA 2000 memory expansion board populated with 2 MEG. I
    installed it last night, ran the diagnostics. Then with feverous
    anticipation fired up TS (I have been wanting to do serious work
    with this for a long while). The machine hung, no GURU, just nothing,
    the TS main screen (Animation editor) comes up and the pointer cannot
    be moved. All other programs work with the new memory (photon paint,
    digi-paint, professional page, dPaint III, Indiana Jones and the
    last crusade, etc), but not the one I want to use. Could anyone
    help me? Before with one meg, at least it would load, but I would
    not be able to do anything.

4061.1STACK 10000?DECWET::DAVISYou always get what you deserveWed Aug 29 1990 15:598
    What size is your Stack? I had a problem with Silver SV and the phone
    support person at Impulse told me to make sure my stack is set to at
    least 10000. He also told me to make sure my memory wasn't fragmented
    and recommended a PD program called, "Sweep" to "free up" memory. I
    now use a script to run Silver which first runs Sweep, then starts Silver
    with a stack of 10000.

    Re: .1

    My stacksize is 10000. I have found several programs (SEDT for one)
    that require it. The "default" amiga size is 4000.

    Re: .2

    There are 2 ways (or 2 places, depending on how you look at it)
    to change your stacksize.

    The first is to apply the INFO menu option against the Shell and/or
    CLI icon, change the stack to 10000, and select SAVE.

    The other is to use the CLI/SHELL command "STACK" as in:

    > STACK 10000

    I have found that changing the icon value doesn't always do it,
    so I have placed a STACK command in my shell-startup as well as
    correcting the icon.
4061.4Icon only affects workbenchTLE::RMEYERSRandy MeyersWed Aug 29 1990 18:304
Re: .3

Note that changing the stack size in the icon only has effect when you
run the program using Workbench using that icon.
4061.5Who is Zero?SDOGUS::WILLIAMSTOPGUNWed Aug 29 1990 20:0726
    If you have the new 2091 controller card you will also want to pick
    up "bangzero". It is public domain and it will fix location zero
    on the Amiga to be a zero. (Impulse and several other developers
    don't seem to have read the developer's manual before doing their
    programming.) Just place the bangzero into your startup-sequence
    (S: directory). Right after "setpatch" is a fine place. You can
    use "ED" from a SHELL if you are not particular about your editors.
    Just start up a shell from the workbench and enter the following
    line:
    ED S:Startup-sequence
    The above line will put you into the editor and allow you to use
    the cursor keys to position yourself. To open a line just enter
    a <CR> at the beginning of the line (below the place you want to
    enter the new line). Enter your line as:
    C:BANGZERO
    if you have put BANGZERO into the "C:" directory. Hit the "escape"
    key once and an "*" will appear at the bottom of the window. Enter
    "X" and hit <CR>. Magic will occur. Reboot and you should be all
    set. The memory was not wasted (if you needed bangzero) by the
    way. You'll need lots of memory and hard drive as you render and
    sculpt!

    Good luck.

4061.8"Can't save Cell [OK]TROA09::ITHOMSONThu Aug 30 1990 12:2210
    Hi guys,
         I rushed home and booted the machine. I did 'STACK 10000'
    and then 'TURBO'. Guess what? It worked, but every time I try to
    'Open New' and then try clicking twice on the first cell (001)
    I get 'Can't save Cell [OK]'. It then goes to the Object editor
    and when I exit it says 'Can't open Cell [OK]'. This keeps going
    on even when I try setting the path to DF0: with a newly formated
    diskette, or hard disk. I can't render anything. Help!!

4061.9Call ImpulseDECWET::DAVISYou always get what you deserveThu Aug 30 1990 15:535
    I suggest you call Impulse (800 328 0184 or 612 566 0221).  They are
    pretty good at answering your questions(although the phone person(s) I get
    usually sounds bored as heck).
