3934.1educational prices (25MHz)READ::POMEROYWed Jul 18 1990 14:0733
I don't know the educational prices for the 16MHz model, but the 25 MHz
Amiga 3000 (with 68882 FPU and 2 megs RAM) prices are as follows:

    	3000 with 40 meg HD: $2619

    	3000 with 100 meg HD: $3059

3000 with 40 meg HD, multisync monitor:	$3039

    I jst purchased a 3000 with 40 meg HD and the Commodore 1950 14"
multisync monitor for the $3039 educational price and am very pleased.
If you get a 3000, I would have to recommend getting extra RAM. The OS
uses up quite a bit of memory and if you are going to go nuts and get a
3000, you'll want to be able to multi-task alot and run large programs.
This requires more than the 2 megs you start with. I would also
recommend getting the 1 meg by 4 ZIPS. If you get the 256K chips, you
can only put 4 more megs on the motherboard. With the 4 megabit ZIPS,
you can put up to an additional 16 megs on the motherboard (for a total
of 18 megs on the motherbaord! The static ZIPS can supposedly get you a
20% perormance increase over the paged mode ZIPS, but that increase is
theoretical. I got 4 megs of paged mode ZIPS and it's FAST! Also, the
static ZIPS are more expensive and REALLY hard to find right now. I
paid $600 for 4 megs of paged mode ($80 per chip). If you look around
you may be able to get them for ($75 per chip).

P.S. If you want the 100 meg HD with multisync, you have to get the 100
meg HD system alone for $3059 and then get the multisync separately -
    comes to about $3500-$3600.

or is there more to it than that?

    Ray,
If you can get a piece of paper (available through your dealer from
Commodore) signed by a dean or academic advisor at the school, then
yes, I belive you can get the discount.

I attend Norheastern Univ in Boston, and I just bought a 3000 on the
educational. My roommate is also buying one today.

We didn't even get the school to sign anything. We know the dealer we
bought the 3000s from, and he didn't even ask me for anything. He told
my roommate he had to get a form, but said he could forge it if he
wanted. (If anyone from C= hears about this, don't worry - we are
students and the dealer knows it, that is the only reason he let us go
    without doing things properly.)

I also go to NU in Boston and Bob and I are old roomies. Sort of goes
to show the power of the Amiga, huh? Our other room mate, Doug, had a
    1000. He sold the 1000 to Bob and got a 2000. Then I bought a 500.
Bob sold his 1000 and bought a 3000. I just sold my 500, bought Doug's
2000, and Doug is getting his 3000 today. Is that how it went, Bob?

Anyway, I'm not planning on buying a 3000 anytime soon, so if any of
you want to take advantage of the educational discount, let me know.

What we can do is this:

You give me the money, I'll go get the 3000 from a Dealer and a signed
thing from NU saying that I'm a student. Then I give you the 3000.

If anyone wants to save a couple of grand, I'd be glad to help, just
    let me know.

A memory board, a bridge board, or something like that for my new 2000
would make a wonderful 'thank you gift'. 8^)

3934.7How about Digital Employees?GOBAMA::WILSONTLTony, the HOSS TRUMPETTue Jul 24 1990 21:024
Does Commodore perchance have a cross-employee discount similar to that
with Apple Corporation? That would probably be better than a student
    discount.

If you are a developer the receipt say's `Staff Dsicount' on
    hardware..

Find a Student Developer and get him to buy your hardware and
you're laughing all the way to the bank...

Only in `one offs' may I suggest.

I think C= only offers discounts to its employees, students/educators,
and registered developers with commercial software on the market.
