3764.0. "ZOO file errors" by HEFTY::RIJOSA () Wed May 09 1990 15:12

I can't seem to unZOO any archives from tape::user5:[amiga].
Everything I've tried downloads fine but I get errors from ZOO when
trying to unpack the file. Is there somthing I don't know about?
    Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know whether this will be relevant to your problem,
but I've encountered two different kinds of errors in moving
.ZOO archives from TAPE:: to my Amiga. Both are soluble.

The way I do it is to copy (DCL Copy) the files from TAPE::
to a VAXStation in my office in Providence, copy those copies
onto a TK50, carry the TK50 home and put it onto a VAXStation
there, copy from the TK50 onto disk, and finally copy
the archives to the Amiga. Your path is probably different,
	but I've discovered these things:

First, it's best to copy the archives to the TK50 using BACKUP
rather than COPY. Files copied to and from the TK50 using COPY
sometimes (not always) show up as corrupted to VMSZOO.

Second, and this may be related to the problems you're having,
KERMIT does not transfer the archives correctly. At least, the
version of KERMIT I have (V3.3.117) doesn't. XMODEM works, but
be sure to specify image mode on the send command. And Checksum
rather than CRC on the Receive. I use VMS XMODEM.EXE from
TAPE::USER2:[AMIGA.TOOLS] and the XMODEM feature of VLTjr
on the Amiga. I don't remember whether it was necessary to
select no translation, but it wouldn't hurt.

    Re: .2

Kermit in and of itself is not 'harmful' - slow maybe but it does work.
The problem may be that the ZOO files on TAPE (at least most of them)
are in the STREAM_LF format. Kermit chokes rather badly on them. They
should be converted to Variable length (or Fixed Length) records. The
program CVTARC will do this for you.

The other option (or better) is to get a terminal emulator that
supports ZMODEM and use it to download the files. It is much faster
than Kermit (and XMODEM as well).

    It's User2 not User5 !!!!

copy zoo file to your directory then unzoo it
