3454.0. "Xeno Virus ???" by CADSE::TERELLA (Mike Terella (DTN)287-3083 CTC2-1/C14) Wed Feb 07 1990 12:08

I'm kind of curious about this, as it's cost me several hours of
time I could have been using productively (like prcaticing my
    	landings on Falcon).

If you have anything to share,or are just interested, please look
at or reply to note 3444.

    						Thanks, Mike

I've downloaded lots of software from the easynet and have yet to be
bitten by any virus. I run virusx4 in my startup-sequence.

Can we assume you didn't use any of the software note 3444 referred to
as known infected with the Xeno Virus? (just trying to figure out how
    your system got infected.)

    regards,
    dennis

Last night I checked most of the software I've downloaded from E-net
and the Lattice BBS using KV. KV reported none infected. I also
checked most of my files on my hard drives with no infections reported.

    FWIW.

    re .1

I was in fact running all that stuff, which I got over the
net. My guess is it came from something I downloaded, as all my
commercial disks check out ok. My problem is I had an older version of
VirusX running for some time, which didn't recognize this Xeno virus.
So I really have no idea when the or how the virus first came in. But,
With a little luck I should be able to isoloate the source. I have saved
most all the downloaded applications (on my VAX). I am planning now to
re-load them one by one, and will check each before running anything.
If I can't find it, I can only assume it was one of the ones I trashed.

re .2 I'm glad to hear others aren't having a problem. This would
suggest that the infected source may be something only a few would
    have bothered to try.
