3238.0. "Maybe I already have a Fat Agnus!!!" by SHARE::DOYLE () Tue Dec 19 1989 12:41
The following was extracted from "Comp.sys.Amiga", can anybody
shed more light on this? My own serial # is CA 1060000....
Think I'll open it up tonight and check the chip part #..

Ive said before.... When CBM ran out of 512K fat Agnus chips, they started
using the 1Meg fat Agnus chips in the A500. This happened -before- the 1Meg
Agnus was released. For that reason no markings on the box or cpu were
used to show the chip change. Also no directions were included for changing
it from a 512K to 1Meg Agnus.
So your being told the truth about the chip. The best way to check if yours
has it or not is simply to open the case and look at the chips part number.
If you have the 1Meg chip and 1Meg (or greater) of ram, the conversion is
a simple jumper and cut, so don't pay a service center big $$$ for doing it.

Try to find someone who has/had a -GERMAN- 2000. These babys only had 512k
of ram on the mother board and then had a short card plugged in the cpu
(co-processor) slot that held another 512k of ram. The wonder of that
card was that it could hold up to 1Meg and that it alreay had holes in it
for mounting inside a Sidecar!!! Ive done it and it works great. The
memory of this card is $C00000.
