3153.0. "A1000 Help.!!!" by HAMER::DRAGOMIRESCU () Mon Nov 27 1989 16:26

Hi there

My A1000 is acting strange (is death now !!!!!!!!)
On power up is asking for the KS, is loading KS, but right after
is finishing to read the KS the screen goes dark green for a sec.
or two then black, no WB requester no life on A1000!!!???.
I disconnected all devs. from the expansion port (2Mb.mem.,Cltd controller
, hard drive!), disconnected all cables except the monitor , no fix.!!
I open A1000 and check voltages on the power supply connector, connected
and disconnected to and from the module, same reading.
 Mov.= -5.05V., org= +11.96V., red= +5.14V., gray= +3.52V.  !
Is the last reading OK.?!!! (+3.52) ?,
I was looking for schematics for the A1000 but no luck.!!!
Could you HELP me ????!!!!!.
Thank you!.

You should try a backup copy of your KickStart disk. I once had the
same problems with my A1000 and it turned out to be a trashed KS.

On the other hand, several friends had an NEC internal floppy go bad,
which also produced fireworks on boot.

And a plea to all to please go easy on the ???????s and !!!!!!!s.
We're not deaf, you know, and it seems an awfull lot like shouting.

Take this with lots of :^) :^) :^)

3153.2Perhaps RAM failureNBOIS2::FRIESDie Wohnung ist schon weg !!!Tue Nov 28 1989 05:278
I had the same failure some months ago.

If the color of the screen is becoming green after KS-booting,
    than the self test says:
"I have a bad memory chip."
So, check your RAM if KS disk is OK.

Thanks, Ed. and Gerald for your prompt response, and Ed. when I was using
those (to many) ?,! is only that I tried to call peoples att., it happen
that mounts ago I was asking for some help and no one answered.
Going back to the original subject, I think the KS is good because I
have tried the backup copy, the original, 1.3, 1.2, and 1.1 KS and it fails
on the same place.
Now the floppy drive looks OK because it seems that is reading the KS
looking at the drive light and is making the familiar heads positioner noise
fails after the reading on the monitor refresh time after which the the
gray screen with the WB icon should come on.
Gerald when you suggested a memory failure are you referring to the first
256K were the KS is loading ?.
And at last are the voltages I read on my original note(3153.1) OK or
there is a way to get schematics for the A1000. and were I should ask for it.
Thank you again for your help.!

Alex.

I had a very similar problem recently - I had just added 1.5mb supra mem
board and tested it on my bench and it was working fine. I then put it
on my desk and plugged in the multitued of cables that lurk underneath my desk
and got the same symptoms - I unplugged and tried it on my bench and it worked
When I plugged it back in on my desk it also worked.

Sorry for the verbouse bit above but it is pertinant.

The actual problem was a paralel to serial convert I 'aquired' to attempt to
run an la75. I never got the damn thing to work so I have the printer and modem
sharing the serial port (not at the same time!).

I had accidently plugged in the paralell to serial converter and this was causing
the problem, which leads me to suspect that malfunctionaing devices plugged into
the paralell port can screw things up. Therefor I would...

1. Unplug printer and try it.
2. If no worky still, check out the paralell interface thingy

3153.5chip mem was corruptedNBOIS2::FRIESDie Wohnung ist schon weg !!!Wed Nov 29 1989 06:0214
    re .3:
    The KS-ROM (RAM) was OK.

<CB>, if I tell something wrong, please improve.
So, after loading the KS-disk, the AMIGA checks it's system.
If the chip-mem is corrupted, the sreen color flashes green.

I upgrated my A1000 to 1Meg internally and destroyed one of the
RAM chips (41464 I think) of the motherboard. -> green color.
FOr me it was simple to see, which one was destroyed. I don't know
how to fix your problem. sorry

    regards
