2492.0. "IFF <--> DDIF???" by CGOFS::OAKLEY (BCNU2) Thu Apr 20 1989 15:24

    Has anybody done or is working on an IFF to DDIF converter? Since
    DECWindows is so much better than VWS it would be very beneficial
    to have this converter available.

    Also, if anybody has a copy of or knows where to get a copy of the
    DDIF format for images could you please let me know?

    thanks

For DDIF format you might try asking in DSSDEV::DDIF conference.

    	Re. 0
    Any luck finding a IFF to DDIF converter ? I've been playing with
    DECwrite for the last couple days and was wondering if I could use
    AMIGA generated artwork with it.

Couldn't you go through some intermediate format like PS or SIXEL or GIF etc?

2492.4PS or sixel to DDIF ? How ?PUERTO::ALVAREZSo much work to do...so little timeTue Feb 27 1990 10:3710

    	John,
    		Yes, I could generate PS or sixel files. You mean that
    there are PS or sixel converters to DDIF ?. I've just started playing
    with a DECwindows station, and I'm trying to convince my system
    manager to install applications. Which ones could I use for the
    above ?
    	Thanks for your help.

Miguel,

     The best tool for the conversions is UtoX (conference CLOSET::UTOX).
It allows you to convert graphics between a variety of formats, but doesn't
directly support IFF. If you are working with color, converting to Sixel
would be your best bet. I have a monochrome system, so I typically convert
to PS, view them with the PSviewer (who does a decent job of dithering at
the screens resolution of 75dpi), capture the image with UtoX, and then
convert it to Xbitmap, DDIF, etc.

     UtoX isn't a product, but is very well done.

    Yes but what about the other way...

    There are hundreds of .ddif .epsf and .img files . Besides which I
    want to scan pictures with Dec Image Scanner, then keeping the
    resolution as best I can transfer it to IFF for the Amiga.

    GIF I can cope with but Postscript converted pictures do not
    look to good.

2492.7Details on IFF -> DDIFDUGGAN::GAYNow where'd I put that hammer...Wed Feb 28 1990 22:1621
    This is how I go from IFF to DDIF

    First, I download ARC'd files, so ARC -x to un-arc 'em.

    then convert to sixel

    	$ CSIX picture. picture.six

    then convert to DDIF

        $ UTOX picture.six/SIXEL picture.ddif/DDIF

    Note that I am not capturing the picture from the screen (what UTOX is
    known for), just using UTOX as a format converter.

    I don't know how to go the other way. I haven't really needed to yet.

    Have fun
