    I think that these files are compressed, TAR-archived packages.
    Starting from zero, you will have to go through these steps...

    	uudecode --> uncompress -->  untar

    TAR archives are the UNIX equivalents of VMS save sets, but are, of
    course, incompatible. You can probably take apart a TAR archive with a
    text editor. As for uncompress, there are Amiga versions around, and a
    VMS package of LZCOMP and LZDCMP with a special UNIX compatibility
    mode. To get the LZ twins from the net, from the VMS command line type
    VTX TOOLSHED, then search for one of those two names.

    Good luck!

    	I noticed that these files were online in one of the IBM-PC
    	file directories. If anyone is interested, they are at:

    	CSCMAS""::SYS$MSDOS:[000000.KA9Q-TCP]NET_AMIG.ARC and
    					     NET_DOC.ARC

    	I have not downloaded or looked at these, and so cannot vouch
    	for them in any way.

Anyone seen TCI/IP for the VAX (VMS and ULTRIX)

I think Ultrix comes with TCP/IP. Theres a product (internal, I think) called
something like "The Ultrix Connection" that lets your VMS VAX talk TCP/IP to
Ultrix machines. Maybe there's something about it in the Ultrix or VMS
notesfiles. Lastly, rumor has it that DECNet Phase V will be able to talk
TCP/IP. I'm told it's hot into the development stages even as we speak and
should be coming out later this calendar year.

Sorry I didn't have any concrete info for you. Maybe this will be enough to
give you some ideas on what to look for, though.

2325.8Some questions..WJG::GUINEAUThu Apr 13 1989 17:2410
Thanks. I pulled the kit over and am getting ready to install it on WJG::.

Has anyone used this?

	1. Will it allow RS232 sockets (terminology?)
	2. Can I dial in from home into a LAT, connect to my machine
		and use TCP/IP (with net_amiga at home)

2325.9TCP/IP net anyone?WJG::GUINEAUFri Apr 14 1989 11:3914
I got net_amiga working between my and my roommates machines last night. Much
easier to install/use than DNET.

Is anyone else using this stuff???

I couldn't get TELNET to do anything usefull (ftp worked fine). TELNET
just gave me a response like a hung cli (you can type but no effect). I
suspect the amiga version of the TELNET server doesn't create a shell
for you... I didn't try going over modem to dial into work yet. Oh, TELNET
does work in ECHO mode.
